Which Supplements Should I Take? What Actually Helps?

Ғылым және технология

I don't sell or endorse any supplements, powders or foods, and that makes me a little different than some you may have heard talking about supplements. It is a law of human nature that an "expert" will tend to promote just exactly what will increase the size of his paycheck.
The recommendations I give you in this video come from the reading I've done into the research, and years of taking care of patients in my practice. I don't make or sell any of these supplements.
I think there are a few supplements that most of us need to take, and many other supplements that most of us can do just fine without. If you take a supplement I didn't mention, please ask me about it in the comments below.
Here are the supplements I talk about:
1. Vitamin D - amzn.to/2Dh58b1
2. Magnesium - amzn.to/2DgUelw
3. Probiotics - amzn.to/2C7IId4
4. Omega-3s - amzn.to/2DgjecO
5. CoEnzyme Q10 - amzn.to/2DU6LfR
6. Zinc - amzn.to/2lfwjvJ
7. B Complex - amzn.to/2C8MNxt
8. Vitamin K2 - amzn.to/2tImAlI

I dont know how to go back to my previous questions for the answers. gallagherkelleys@gmail I started fasting the 16/8 right away. Hasnt really fiven me hunger pangs. I did only start keto about 3 weeks ago. 1 year ago I started a high protein diet and lost a lot of weight. I like the keto better because I feel more full. How will it affect me if I continue the 16/8 IF even though I did that right away? I need to lose 30 more pounds.

Dr Berry my husband and I have been following you for yrs. My hubby is your #1 fan!!! This year my sugar addict self decided to do NO processed sugars in 2023!!! I got so much flack. Hubby and I have done 30-40 days 0 sugars and 4 month carnivore a few years ago with amazing results but we have never tried 1 yr. Feeling our best already! His arthritis is gone, my brain fog is gone, better night sleep, dropping weight, reflexes are quick (I never thought that would happen!) And skin has already cleared up. Not doing fruits yet! Only focused on no processed sugars but people think I am going to die. They never worried when I ate chemical laden snicker bars and poptarts! Now they think I am dying. Well, on the road to recovery. I don't want to ever go back! Here is my problem! I love hamburger and eggs - those give me the most energy almost whinin a minute of eating... but my stomach has shrunk and I can't eat very much because I fill up so fast. I am concerned I am not getting enough vitamins so I take vitamins. I don't want to overtake them either. You mentioned if we ate a meat dense diet we should be getting the nutrients we need. What would you say is the amount needed for someone who can only eat 2 small meals a day. I loved doing 24 hr fasting then eat, but I am no longer doing that because I can only eat a fistful of meat or eggs most days. Hubby and I have lost weight but that isn't the goal here, being healthy is... then the body will lose. It took us years to realize that. Also what do you recommend for someone with a cold to add in more magnesium and zinc? How much? Thanks for all you do!!!

When I was on Warfarin, I was told to avoid foods and supplements with vitamin K because it "thickens the blood". If you are on a medication that is affected by vitamin K then definitely steer clear but if you're a normal person then it shouldn't hurt you and should actually help you. K1 and K2 work well together. Green leafy vegetables contain K vitamins.

Dr. Berry, first and foremost, thank you for your videos. I’ve only started watching your videos a couple of weeks ago. I do have a couple of questions: Do you recommend/encourage taking glycine? Why/why not? The reason I ask is because I take a glycine supplement called Sweetamine. It also contains L-Proline, Taurine, and stevia. I’ve heard taking a ‘tonic’ made with 2tbls acv (w/the mother), 1tbls blackstrap molasses, 1tsp baking soda and at least 10oz of water is very good for the body. Would you agree/do you recommend taking this? Why/why not? I’ve noticed some of your videos recommend unprocessed salt but in others you recommend a specific brand. Are these one in the same or different? If different, which is best? Also, my mom (and I, but I’m most concerned for my mom) really needs your medical help as a doctor. We’re in California. Do you take new patients for phone or video appointments?

Great list Dr. Berry, I would to suggest 2 others. For K2 - wk7 version has a better half-life than wk-4 (I take both - Liver is the best), current studies of K2 are of higher doses (0.2mg+). Not sure why this one wasn't considered essential, most people do not get enough Boron in their diet. It is involved in many processes, and taken in moderate amounts with your suggested list will provide many benefits (Strong Bones - No Osteopenia, Reverse Arthritis, Increase D Serum levels, and Testosterone)

Great advice. Love your attitude and presentation as well. QUESTION: Best form of B6? I've heard another well-known Dr. on KZread stating that Pyridoxine (HCI) will actually deplete B6 levels (introduce deficiencies, etc) vs. the Pyridoxal 5-Phosphate form is actually the bio-available form. More that mixing these in any form would cancel one another out? I've not heard a corroborating opinion on this. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much, Dr. Berry, this is really valuable information, (as well as your video recommending what supplements not to take). We who eat vegetables, for B vitamins can use nutritional yeast , and I find a half tablespoon has enough of the daily requirement of all the B vitamins except B12, which is usually added. I don’t love it by itself, but it tastes good mixed with oil and vinegar dressing and some mustard and herbs and garlic, etc. I mix up a little jar every few days and keep it in the fridge.

Thanks for this video. I know I found it very late. I am currently taking all that you mentioned except Vit. K2 which I will be purchasing. During Covid, I decided to take an immune booster which includes zinc. I also take Red Yeast Rice withe Co-Q 10 at the recommendation of my doctor a few years ago when I tried taking a statin (no one told me to take it at night back then) and it was causing some problems, so she recommended fish oil, co-q 10 and red yeast rice. I have been taking them for about 4-5 years. I now live a Ketogenic lifestyle since October, 2019 and have lost 30+ pounds since then. I want to drop another 10. What do you think about DHEA and Kelp? Should I be concerned about them. I started taking DHEA within the past 2 weeks because I thought it would help a few worrisome things, but I believe it is disrupting my sleep - I am waking several times a night instead of just once a night like I normally do. I am 69 btw, so it has been a long time since I have slept through the night. I do think magnesium is a great sleep helper.

I had been taking a b complex vitamin but had been experiencing a variety of nasty symptoms that I had thought might suggest a need for more thyroid hormone supplementation...crushing fatigue, depression, GERD, heart fluttering, insomnia, finally terrible muscle cramps in my feet and toes. My wonderful internist did a lot of blood tests and finally found the problem...very low plasma thiamine levels. A few days of b1 and benefotiamin supplements totally eradicated all the problems. My ketovore diet just didn't do it without supplements. I suspect my age--64-- made my absorption less than ideal. I am so relieved to have been able to identify it!

I avoid trace minerals, especially magnesium, potassium & zinc, as I am allergic to them. They cause lightheaded-ness, nausea, vertigo! Should I take them anyway? My husband and I have been doing ketovore for the last couple of months and keto since July 2021. (Thanks for all your videos, we researched keto for a year after trying diabetes dieticians diets and drugs and, in spite of their recommendations, tried it .) My next a1c's made her jaw drop and her eyes widen . Then she smiled and said I didn't need her help anymore.) Both my husband and I are down around a hundred pounds each. We need to figure out how to get our blood pressures down now. Mine was so good, I had to quit all my BP pills but an emergency operation in November has messed them up again and his just doesn't want to come down. Any thoughts and help would be appreciated. Our doctor considers keto a short term weight loss diet and he is no help there. Constipation is a concern for both of us.
