In 1986 a girl at my school brought her hot dogs in a thermos because her idea was she'd eat the hot dog and then have a nice refreshing drink afterwards. It is 37 years later and I still remember the look on her face afterwards, and how she just quietly closed up her thermos and never mentioned it again.

Watertok started off as a way for bariatric surgery patients sharing the recipes to get adequate hydration. Most who get bariatric surgery get water nausea. "Dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, the difference in acidity in the stomach or part of the surgery process have been suggested as reasons why plain water isn't tolerated" then it got ruined by the "almond moms" and those deep in diet culture.

IDK if people know this, but unless your metal-lined reusable cups very specifically and EXPLICITLY tell you that you CAN use anything other than water, you're slowly giving yourself aluminum and other metal poisoning. Aluminum cans actually have a thin layer of PFOA plastic on the inside that keeps the cans from degrading into the highly acidic soda. Almost everything we consume is more acidic than water. That includes bacteria and its waste. Aluminim--when *properly* prepared and left entirely smooth--is stable at the pH of water. If it has any scratches from any kind of abrasive--including ice, sugar, spoons, dish cloths or sponges, etc.--it will break down no matter what. These people should be mass reported for encouraging people to poison themselves.

It’s my understanding that WaterTok started among people who have had bariatric surgery. A known side effect is water nausea, which makes their already high risk of dehydration even higher. That’s why the focus is on sugar free powders and syrups. Then I guess it met up with Stanley cup mania and exploded all over the live laugh love universe.

This definitely makes me a hater but I do not comprehend the Stanley cup trend. They’re fine but the only real advantage I can give them is they fit in cup holders. But they accomplish that by having tiny bases so they tip easily which is an issue because just using my eyes I can tell they leak. I use a generic insulated water bottle it doesn’t fit in a cup holder but that also doesn’t matter because it’s leak proof and still has a straw. And keeps stuff cold/hot slightly longer cuz no leak. Are these Stanley cup people aware that there are a million brands offering the same features for at least a little bit cheaper. Fuck I can’t believe I just had a 2 paragraph rant about how a water bottle is just fine 😂 They’re actually not even that expensive for the product, just like 5-10 bucks more than average

She has ADHD and will easily forget to bring water with her/stay hydrated, so having them both in specific places helps her stay healthy. I cannot IMAGINE owning more than 2 though. Or like, maybe you keep a second one for when the other is in the wash, or so that you can fill both to take on a trip or something? But nobody could possibly need 8+ on their own.

Probably unwanted but really helpful tip: our body literally counts any other beverage as food, not water, and digests it differently than pure water. You literally can't satisfy thirst with sodas and other plastic beverages, so drink water once in a while pls (you can INFUSE it with real fruits/berries at home if you don't like the flavor, just cut some up and throw in your water for some time to get the juices out). That's why the "stay hydrated" memes are so popular. Also many people confuse thirst with hunger because they can feel the same sometimes!! So if you're underhydrated and have problems with constant hunger, you might wanna check how much water do you drink!! Please eat and drink healthily and love urself ^^

This is not correct and I've yet to find any credible source that even suggests this. Your body digests any form of liquid as liquid. The chemical make up of solids and liquids are so vastly different that it's beyond stupid to claim your body would confuse them. Flavored water, even by artificial means, still hydrates you. It just also has a large amount of sugar, which is the actual concern. It's still primarily water, though. There's also things lik caffeine, which is a diuretic, which increases urine production that can lead to more dehydration. In short- flavored water is scientifically the same as regular water. It just has extra sugar and can make you pee more.
