Maybe it’s because I live mere driving distance from DisneyLand, but that does not sound as weird to me as it probably should. If anything, I’m the weird one in my community for still not watching Wandavision (let alone whatever else Marvel has put out on Disney Plus recently) and I’m probably just going to have to accept the fact that if I ever want to have a girlfriend again for the first time in college, I need to seriously brush up on my knowledge of the company and its parks to impress them.

The crazy thing about denying Spiderman being used on a tombstone to preserve the innocence of the characters if there are deaths IN Spiderman! Including the deaths of "heroes" or "good guys." I wouldn’t consider myself a Disney adult, I barely consider myself an adult, but as someone who had to take on a lot of adult responsibility as a child, trying to experience childhood things in a safe and stress free environment as adult is something I 100% relate to, and Disney movies that I grew up with can definitely be part of that comfort.

Exactly this. Disney and Disney World are some of the only memories from my childhood that I remember with pure joy and bliss, because the rest of it is grief or other negative things. I had to grow up too fast. So if something as simple as a company and their theme park can make me fully happy, then let it make me happy.

My college/shortly after college ex came from a Disney family. His mom had a Disney shirt/outfit for everything including what she referred to as “classy Mickey” for formal events such as weddings (including being the mother of the bride), funerals, showers, and special events. Their family took a yearly trip to Disney. My ex dragged me to Disney once after we had been together out of college for a couple years and it was the straw that broke me. A kid dumped an entire smoothie down my leg and into my shoe and we still spent another 10 hours in the park. We only took one “adult” trip during our multi year relationship and I remember saying “isn’t this fun? We can do this as we get older” and he said “no, we will take Disney trips with our family”. We were not on the same page -I don’t think Disney and non Disney people are meant to be together lol

My aunt works at Disney, and has for probably 40ish years? She’s probably the definition of a Disney adult. Every wall of her home is decorated with memorabilia, and she has an insane collection of every snow globe Disney has ever made in these glass display cases. Because my family is lower middle class, and because she had an employee discount, we always had our family vacations at Disney. I definitely still enjoy going to the parks every few years (I don’t have kids), but people can go way overboard. I think sports might be the best analogy. I don’t feel a ton of brand loyalty towards anything, but liking Disney that much is sort of the same as being a huge fan of some sports team and making your whole identity about that team.

yeah, i've been aware of cos-bounding as a more lowkey/casual version of cosplaying for a long time and I think it's a very fun concept! I like the idea of putting together a 'normal' outfit inspired by a character that is not immediately clocked as a costume, yet still recognizable by fans :) plus especially with disney theme parks, it's one of the very few ways you can dress up kinda fun without violating their policies which I heard are fairly strict. Aside from not allowing costumes/cosplay of disney characters, basically anything too costume-y that could be mistaken by a child for a performer is off-limits. I heard e.g. some people with brightly dyed red hair have been refused entry unless they cover it (too Ariel-adjacent) as well as certain alt-fashions like Lolita if they look too princess-y. Also obviously no fursuiting and stuff like that. So disneybounding to me seems very low on the scale! I would rate people who have a ton of disney merch clothing for every occassion much higher on the disney adult scale, considering how much money they charge just to have disney IP on comparatively low cost clothing 🤔

Also Disney didn’t even take down that specific shirt anyway, it was the website.

I definitely agree that there are levels to this Disney Adult stuff. I’m not one of the eccentric ones but I do love picking one of the Princesses and dressing up during our trips to Disney World. It’s just fun and adds to that magical feeling. Yes, I do get that magical feeling when I’m there. It’s very immersive IF you allow it to be. There’s smells, sounds and sights if you’re someone that truly takes it all in while you’re there. Our kids and their friends that we often take all ride the bigger rides and I don’t. So it has always given me a little time alone to walk around and do whatever I want. It’s a whole experience. I’ve went and got pics with characters that the older kids would have complained about. It’s just a way I get to enjoy the trip as an adult. It’s funny one year I went to get photos with Mickey. When it was my turn he said “ I like your ears” and my awkward butt said thank you while touching my own actual ears. Hahaha smh 🤦🏻‍♀️

As you can see- I’m a “DISNEY adult” lol although I’m in recovery 🤣 how we all do it is passes. You pay for a Pass and can go pretty much whenever you want. A pass can be as low as $20/month but with limited availability. I had the second highest pass that included free parking, food discounts, merch discounts, and all days are available besides the two weeks at Christmas. I paid only $130/month. But the trick is need you to be a CA resident. I would go home from work, and eat dinner and instead of going out to the mall or something my friends would meet up at the parks. BUT- these passes are changing. (Whoever said credit cards and debt is also right!) too many people had these passes and would over pack the parks- so now they’re changing everything to slow it all down and limit capacities

@Austin Lee i don't think this is about being neurodivergent. This is about fans being fans. Its not unique to disney and its not unique to neurodivergent people. People making something they love part of their identity and not wanting to hear cririsim about it happens across the board. Many neurotypicals do it as well as neurodivergent people. And, many neurotypical people don't do it, aswell as many neurodivergent people.

I really hope you get to feel it one day bc I’m neurodivergent & personally I feel like I’m losing my ability to have special interests like that as I grow up & id give anything to hyperfixate like I used to. like learning every dinosaur fact as a kid & watching Jurassic park 200 times without any self restriction felt so freeing. I guess the downside though is that people around you won’t be as into it so it’s a little alienating/depressing especially when you become aware of how little other people care about the things you do (even if they aren’t outright shitting on you for it, if they’re not into something you can’t blame them either). I guess at some point it just gets to you even with the whole ‘fuck what everyone else thinks !! be who you wanna be !!whatever don’t care don’t give shit’ thing. anyways yeah it’s a cool feeling & it makes me feel alive

@@percabethisawesome1163 I’ve felt the same way about growing out of hyper fixations, but I’ve also found some new ways you can appreciate things as an adult. One of mine is The Beatles, so I listened to a related podcast while going on long walks and listen to their music in between breaks. If you make money you have more freedom to buy things you couldn’t buy before in relation to it. I’m also at a maturity level that I’m able to focus on some of the more complex aspects of their history. It’s different from when you’re a kid but it can still be just as fun in its own different way.

I finally was able to experience Disney Land when I was 22 and I honestly hated it. By the end of the one day Disney trip my phone was dead, I was hella sunburned, my thighs were red from rubbing together because I mistakenly wore shorts, the whole group was mad at each other because they were hot, tired, hungry, and their phones were either also dead or on 5% trying to gather everyone safely after the fireworks. I spent like $200 on 1 pair of mouse ears, 2 snacks, and 2 drinks….why is everything so expensive? 😭 After all the kids screaming and social interaction I had to sleep in a dark room for 18 hours. Probably won’t go again…I was more of a Cartoon Network kid anyway so maybe that’s why I did not understand the magic. No shame to the Disney adults tho. I just don’t understand how you guys do it…and some of y’all do it every weekend because you live near by. You guys are the ultimate bosses of extroverts. 🥴

My uncle is definitely a Disney adult. He was adopted by my grandmother at age 13 from an extremely abusive and horrific situation that he grew up in. I once asked him why he loves Disney so much and he said that his only comforts during his bleak ass childhood were these four Disney VHS tapes that he would watch over and over again every night. They made him feel safe and It was the only way he could fall asleep. Now as an adult he has mad love for Disney, and yes, his home is filled with very tacky Disney decor, but he’s got those four VHS tapes sitting on his mantle. (Not the same exact ones from his abusive home, but the same movies), as a way to remember and pay tribute to the cartoons that he says saved his life. So I feel that.

They wanted to trademark "Hakuna Matata". Literally my language and our country's slogan. There's even a song from the late 60s/early 70s called Hakuna Matata. Everyone sings it.

My only real issue with Disney adults is the issue I have with all extreme fanatics - when they get angry and unreasonably attack others for headcannons and theories, like chill please. Or if they get super obsessed with the actors and harass them

I went to Disneyland twice a week for 4 years with my mom. We didn’t go because we were obsessed with Disney, we just did it cause it was super close and we could get a couple mile walk in and get some pretty good ice cream on the way out

@@cosmosisrose money bud. Birds die for food but humans die for greed. It's very easy for a lot of people to readjust their bottom line with some money involved. Look at any single show or hobby, you'll see that negative criticism gets much more attention than positive reinforcement, because human nature is just like that. That's why most KZread chernels just shit on anyone and anything niche or slightly not inline with a generalized opinion because people eat it up
