A noun, a verb, an adjective. VoicePlay keeps expanding into all areas, vocally, genre, and vocabulary too. I agree, wish this was released on the day of the eclipse. Maybe it got delayed? The nostalgia is real in this one. This song came out my Freshman year. It changed everything for me. I had a lot of friends into grunge, but THIS... "Black Hole Sun" was on another level. I became a grunge girl thanks to Soundgarden. What an insane cover! Loved your reaction, man. Great faces, great insight.

not inhale, you can hear Geoff's clean subs underneath. it's either Geoff plus distortion, or Geoff plus Layne.

Eli is really a different style arranger than Geoff and Layne, Eli's arrangement of Eleanor Rigby is similarly creative.

Geoff said he doesn’t understand how to do inhale bass, so I’m going to say no, it’s not inhale. More likely it’s subs with some effect on it? I agree it sounds different. They really don’t know how to stop one-upping themselves! This has easily made my top 3!

I went back to the part dominate practice tracks, and to me it sounds like they’re both to blame. I think Layne is doing an inhaled bass over top of Geoff’s bass note.

Geoff can do inhale subs, but not sure about inhale throat like Layne does. I believe here it's Geoff doing his usual outward placed sub layered with Layne doing some throat bass. Voiceplay love to layer.

This is so awesome. They really know how to out do themselves. Phenomenal visuals.

I was in high school when the original came out…we would pass the CD around our science class and huddle over our disc man while doing lab work…Soundgarden blew our minds. And this was brilliant.

I hit enter before I heard this part of your video I totally agree with you on the intro Ceasar and Geoff's voices compliment each other so well and sound remarkable together! Eli has actually left the planet with his talents that's gotta be why they did this cover lol.

I think Layne does throw in an ingressive phonation (why do I feel pretentious using that term) at one point in the song, but Geoff’s are all subs. How much do you want to bet they planned to drop it the day of the eclipse and there was some kind of hang up? Anyway, Dennis, basically I agree with everything you said! Great reaction!!

I thought this was amazing, too! Not positive whether or not that was an 'inhale bass' from Geoff or not. Once you mentioned it, it sort of does look like it. It isn't that Geoff cannot do it, just that he has said in the past that he doesn't do it. I think at that time (which I'm pretty sure was over a year ago, maybe longer), he said he didn't like to do it because it hurt. At least, that is what I recall. However, that doesn't mean he hasn't found a way to do it since then, that doesn't hurt. So it COULD be him. Personally, I like VoicePlay's version over SoundGarden's. I felt a great more variety and emotion in this from them. I especially loved Eli's energy - to the point where he even couldn't stay sitting at one point! In the original, the energy was more in the instruments than the voice. And Cesar's voice at the start was just gorgeous! One of my fave parts was the bit where they were singing 'black', 'hole', 'sun' as the background vocals - as if the words were 'ooo's or 'aah's. Kind of spattering along. Reminded me of raindrops, so cool with the rainy visual to go with the lyrics. As for the visuals - all the 'neon' reminded me of part of "BladeRunner" then add the rooftop setting to complete that idea of the CyberPunk ending of replicant Roy's 'death'. So cool!

I recall Geoff saying he doesn't do the inhale phonation because it hurts and because it doesn't sound good. Layne can make it sound good. I'm not a high enough tier to get the part dominant tracks so I think it's either Geoff with added distortion, or Geoff layered with Layne's inhale phonation.

I realized I know this song because of Weird Al's Alternative Polka...... This is fantastic.

This song is giving me "Here Comes The Sun" by the Beatles vibes.

When refusing the Voiceplay bike, it might smooth, but when Geoff sings just know you’ll be riding under the road instead. He has a way to just open the earth below you.

The part that sounds like an electric guitar isn't distortion, it's Cesar.

It’s different but it still keeps the essence of the original. You could still imagine that track with the original video. And I think as has been said it’s Geoffs normal style but modified mouth position to shape the sound. Don’t I sound like I know what I’m saying hehe. Thank you Jen Elizabeth and Peter. They are going to have fun with this too.

Thanks for your reaction. While I didn't/don't like the song Voiceplay's performance is stellar. Their talents are over the top in everything they do. Hopefully next time will be a tad less dark. . Not one I will listen to more than once

Whew! I thought I was the ONLY one. I thought this song was awful, but I went and listened to the original and it was HORRIBLE. Still plenty of people love it, so I congratulate VP on another home run, even though I'm hiding under my seat in the bleachers. 🙃 But VoicePlay's talents are unquestionable, as are their versatility, energy, creativity, dedication, musicianship, and on and on. There'd have to be 100 of awful songs in a row to get me to stop listening to them!
