Via Rail Terror Plot : The Inside Man - The Fifth Estate

He was an undercover officer working on the streets of New Jersey before he started working with the FBI. In June of 2012, he got a call from his bosses. They wanted him to check out men they believed were involved in a terrorist plot to blow up a Canadian passenger train. Tamer Elnoury, who is an Arabic-speaking Muslim, was perfectly positioned to infiltrate a group of suspected terrorists. In an exclusive Canadian TV interview, an elaborately disguised Elnoury sits down with Habiba Nosheen and explains the life of an undercover agent, and the terror plot he foiled.

Now there moving on to shame and blame white adult males and conspiracy theorist & Conspiracist alike! You know the whole guns are bad thing when guns are the only tool to put a 70 old grandma on even footing with a 270 pound home invader! Don't tell me old ppl can't handle guns there are shotguns called the AA-12 which even a kid can shoot without recoil which is effective from 250 feet away! "The psychopath can appear normal, even charming. Underneath, he lacks conscience and empathy, making him manipulative....." This is how Psychology Today describes a "psychopath". Please tell me how then this "wonderful brave man" is different from a "psychopath" ? Perhaps you might say that this doesn't count because he's pursuing a "criminal". But that only works if you demote a "criminal" to something less than a "human being", which is obviously false. If Society must use virtual "psychopaths" to catch 'criminals", then I say that there's something VERY Wrong with our Society. ( www.psychologytoday.com/us/basics/psychopathy ) ... @@JosephKulik2016 Psychopaths to not equate to criminals. About 1 in 100 people are psychopaths, most professions chosen by psychopaths are hospital work like surgeons, or law enforcement occupations, because psychopaths work well under stress and are not affected through empathy as others are. Imagine having a surgeon whose hands shake because they are nervous, or who is an alcoholic because of the stress he has been through. This agent IS likely a psychopath, and that is exactly why he is in the job he is doing. Because he is a psychopath does not mean he cannot be wonderful, the same as how a psychopathic surgeon isnt any less wonderful for the work that they perform.

From a review of the comments I wonder what biased means to ppl. Many people effectively answered that she is biased because she doesn't automatically take the side of the agent. But unbiased means balanced and fair. Are you saying that she is too supportive of the suspect, or of the agent? I didn't pick up a bias in any direction. What bias did you see? My opinion is that she is an amateur presenter, and therefore not sensitive to the intrinsic biases of the audience, therefore she looks biased to a biased audience seeking to hear echoes of their own biases, and not a probing interview of the interviewee. People expected more of a praise-party for a 'hero', because, before watching this interview and learning the facts, people had already outlined the plot in their heads, and assigned the roles of hero and villian. A good interviewer in my book, for knowing how to cut through all that, and being brave enough to go ahead and do it on a Canadian presentation.

Too many of the Americans in the comments section - the ones saying 'good job' hate that the journalist had the temerity to ask questions. The whole case stank of entrapment - something that the FBI is notorious for. In fact, American agencies are notorious for. I don't think you understand the first thing about schizophrenia - America puts people on death row who in the delusions of schizophrenia have killed someone. All of America's law enforcement appear to play to the press. Starting with created purp walks. Rather than right and wrong, America looks at winning cases, when the former should be of prime importance. It is little wonder that America has the highest prison population as they see it as a win to get prison time, rather than what is best for society. Your bond system is biased towards poor people - look at countries who don't use bail bonds, they have just as good a system. Many people are doing life without parole for none violent offences - there is no sense of justice in America- natural justice. America is run by corporations, who own senators and dictate laws. The interviewer and everyone she chose to interview were biased against the informant. Sad. Also, the informant was in contact with the two men because people were planning to harm others, but this reality was overlooked, and to the extent that the supposed purpose of the interview, to this viewer, seemed as if it were a promotional video for a peaceful people group that many now fail to trust. But here’s a fact contrary to that theory, and one worth noting. The informant via the journalist, said, at 33:20-25, how it “slipped” and the words “they have a man in America” were said by one of the men he was gaining info from. But guess what, on April 15, 2013 two brothers did unleash harm at the Boston Marathon, in America. And let us remember, the eldest brother spent time overseas with radical men linked with radical groups. So why did this reporter fail to add this fact to her story? Thus, there may be some credibility to this man’s claim. Sorry journalist, just when the accusation arises that all these folks are being targeted for being evil, yet a major reality to this story DID occur in America, and shortly after the informant heard the “slipped” news of such an occurrence!

Let's be fair Habiba Nosheen. The reason she comes across as a terrible journalist is because, from what I understand, this is her first gig as a TV reporter. Her career prior to joining The Fifth Estate was writing media articles and producing documentaries (which she has won awards for). So she doesn't have the "classic" and experienced demeanor we're used to seeing from TV journalists. Especially with regard to her inflection and tone. Her narration is very much done in a feature documentary style, and her interviewing skills seem more informal. Basically, I don't think she's a bad journalist at all, but she hasn't yet honed her TV presence skills. Hopefully that'll improve with time. Also, some of the "dumb" questions she's asking are meant to be for the viewer's benefit, not ours. When she asks questions like "Why can't we see your real face" it's not because she's an idiot, it's because viewers are sometimes idiots and need clarification. Even if it seems obvious to most of us, it's intended to drive home the importance of his anonymity. I personally don't pick up on any sarcasm or arrogance from her demeanor, just inexperience with TV interviews that seem less polished and more informal. She sounds like a totally different person when she interviews vs when she narrates, and that's not something we're used to seeing with seasoned TV journalists.

Ture hero, I think all Canadians should thank this brave man. and by the way, as a CBC reporter, she does not seem respect to this guy. I feel sorry for that as a Canadian.

This turns into a total hit piece and defends the terrorists. Why were there on the bridge if they were not going to blow it up ?

If I was talking to an undercover cop, and I said let’s go blow up the police station should they wait for me to light the fuse

The programme is rather focused on the fbi undercover agent but not how the perceived terrorist planned, organised, carried out and subsequently arrested. The interviewer was even guarding and filling in the gaps just to hear what she wants to hear. She should get actors involved to make it more dramatic, not narration and story telling.
