However I do not think the average citizen wants some one with a badge and gun abusing other citizens and the authority we entrust them with and that is the problem. The police, police themselves with IA, which should be separate from local agencies, personally I think the reporting standards when a officer uses force or deadly force, is pitiful and non-existent in most departments, if the public isn't allowed to see these issues, than the public (citizens) are being manipulated by police agencies, the courts and politicians.

One of the elements that wasn't covered in this story is those violent, raging control freaks are often the most cruel to their own family. I've met good police who go home and are good family members however I've experienced the dark side of the badge. The spouses and children are often their most abused victims. And who can they run to for help? Where can they go to hide?

Your absolutely right. When I retired from the army almost all the people I then hung out with were law enforcement. One of them was an alcoholic and very violent with his wife and 2 kids. He used to brag about all the complaints and lawsuits against him that he had beaten.

This is a nightmare for all citizens. These monsters should be in prison.

Unless you have significant training in how to diagnose psychopathy, consider avoiding the use of such terms. It diminishes our understanding from a clinical perspective. Also consider the fact that omitting clinical terms doesn't leave the well dry. There are still dozens of great words to use to describe this person.

It’s the same condition in every nation! Police does not believe that they are the Public Servant! Give them a badge with the police brothers backing them up. The afforded power backed up by the system of ideals that the Badged People are always in the right gives them the Swollen Heads to go out and do whatever they want to the very citizens they are supposed to Serve! Of course their Brothers in the Fraternity of the Police backing them up, they will even commit murders! What a great production. Really digs in and attempts to get answers to serious questions. I'm in the U.S. and so much of this case hits home. A couple of quotes stand out: "...In the U.S. they don't have very good accountability systems..." Boy, is that ever an understatement. But, why not? What can we do in the U.S. to fix this problem? In another comment, "We do not govern the police, the police govern us." This is the definition of a broken system, and we as citizens pay the price. Shameful and frightening.

I was a correctional officer and ert member at a Winnipeg jail for 13 yrs. I have to say this is a law enforcement issue system wide. When I made a complaint about inappropriate use of force, which was witnessed by upper management and several officers, I was told to take the high road and the issue was never investigated. After this, I was alienated by the majority of my coworkers and my workplace became unbearable. This was one of hundreds of incidents I witnessed where inappropriate use of force was employed. At what point do the ones in uniform become the criminals? There’s such a code in corrections to justify these kind of acts. The investigating powers never once found officers liable for their actions. I saw things that disgusted me, so much so that I left my job. I felt like I was white knuckling my way through every shift. I don’t know to what end this will ever resolve itself, but the system is screaming for an overhaul.

I love it when they say, "We have conducted a thorough investigation into ourselves and we have found ourselves not guilty." Or they say, "We have hired an outside, highly respected firm to conduct an internal audit of our systems." Then you look at it a bit deeper and find the outside firm is a group of retired police officers.

Lol. Internal Affairs is usually retired police, or cops that had to quit due to medical leave or cops that are too old etc. So when ppl go to Internal Affairs they think they're talking to ppl that will get to the bottom of the issue but really IA is trying to bury the case, or they try to find out info to help the cops out, like try to see what evidence you have against the cop, see where you live or work and list goes on

I experienced police assaults twice in the 70s. Once as a teenager and once as a young man at about 19 years old. Some police have always misbehaved. The problem has always been accountability. Nothing has changed in Fifty years. I don't expect change will happen in the next Fifty years.

My brother was just like this guy get him mad and he went insane. The prosecutor should rapid fire some questions to see if the cop explodes in court.

Was the police dept that desperate for an officer that they hired him even with his back ground and offences? Like what the heck. Dude doesn’t need to be in a position of authority as he doesn’t have respect for it. Something is seriously wrong with him and giving him a gun and a badge was the worst thing they could have done.

When he was hired he was young and had no record, straight out of college, 7:02. Once he had the badge he was untouchable.

That interview is disgusting - threatening the victim with dangerous driving. Blatant coercion to drop the complaint. If you are right never back down. After all they had the phone call from a witness.

As a former Peace Officer I've seen my fair share of cops who use excessive force, drink and drive and lies in Cort. The problem is that if you say something you are made an example and place a bullseye on your back by experiencing harrassment treats bullying intimidation tactics lack of opportunities and at the end quitting your job due to all of the above. That's why now I keep my cell phone ready and will record every encounter I see a member of the public vs cops.

That's how our justice system works, defend yourself and protect your friends & family and you go to jail.

Trusting the cops can be a fatal mistake - Not just marginalized communities but everyone. If the cop who shot Nathan was a civilian he'd be in prison for life.

I feel like when we describe it in terms like "protecting their ego", it monumentally softens what should be considered totally egregious and 100% unacceptable.

I am a Canadian raised by a staff sergeant and I got severe beating whenever I messed up which was quite a bit I go to court it will get thrown out because he has a nice pull

what would happen to a citizen that assaulted a law enforcement officer in this manner? Until there is accountability the situation will not change. NO CONSEQUENCES, NO CHANGE

100% agree. Anyone who sees a police interaction should immediately start livestreaming it. Perhaps the cop can grab the phone, but if there are multiple livestreams he can't stop it. The public needs to start shining a light on all the dirty cops. Expose them all over the internet, make every video of every bad cop go viral and protest in the street until the police chief fires that bad cop.

This is my second time watching and I was hoping to see that the police officer was fired or jailed. Please post a follow up.

Many of these civil cases against officers are kept secret by the victims being forced to sign non discloser documents. Perhaps we need all these cases being public knowledge for better accountability.

I investigated my self one time and found the charges where erroneous, irrelevant , inconclusive, and fabricated, there was no wrong doing on my part for stealing that car.

Here's a red flag: Parker is still a constable after 28 years on the force. He has never been promoted.

Body cameras and a community committee to review those cameras would surely help.

I liked the interview with the brother who was on point and concise in evaluating his brother and how the system is failing. When he said the police chief should stand up and take charge, what he's missing is the politics in play within the dept's. Usually to get to the position of chief they become the best politician with police skills.. In my opinion judging by the photo of Nathan Parker buffed out from training, there could have a been an underlying substance abuse issue i.e. steroids. The fault of the shooting lands squarely on the leadership within the dept however. Charges should have been layed on those that did nothing to remove Nathan Parker sooner and negligently allowed this to happen.

I was so surprised when I heard that women's comment in the beginning of the program. I always thought people leave the big cities and move to smaller areas so they could know who the neighbors/townsfolk are in order to have a closer knit community. Nathan Parker is still a police officer in 2022. He just punched in a drivers side window in another road rage incident in 2022. His charges for the 2018 shooting were stayed. I do not understand why that police department keeps this horrible cop!!

being a police officer seems like such a thankless job. can't imagine the extra stress of having to work with someone you can't trust. respect to all the good cops out there. you're worth your weight in gold.

The disciplinary action (or lack of) the Niagara Police Force took against Parker reveals the level of corruption of senior management, as well as their utter failure to protect citizens and fellow officers. It's all a facade when they claim they are doing an internal investigation.

All law enforcement should be required to carry liability insurance like doctors and Healthcare professionals. When civil lawsuits settlements are paid out it's not the taxpayers responsibility but insurance companies. Police officers with histories of disciplinary action and civil suits will result in high insurance premiums and eventually will be priced out of policing.

I agree, if found to be in the wrong any compensation should be take from the police officer themselves, and they should be forced to pay back any costs ie court and solicitors

Many people in the Niagara region will recognize the man in the police video being interviewed, Mr. Plato. He is a stand up man, hard working, gentle nature, family man. I never knew this had occurred and am sorry he had to go through this. Knowing Mr. Plato, it is unfortunate the police tried to shift the blame to him.

@@jamesbroomfield7799 He was threatened outright in the interview. He was told that he would be charged with dangerous driving if he went ahead. That would be his livelihood gone. The threat was thinly veiled, but it was there and obvious.

So many jobs today, due to the cost of housing amongst other things, any walk-in is employed on the spot. The answer is to alert new employees to the stark realities of the job and say: "Your blood pressure reading is your personal business. Good luck. You're going to need it!!" From Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia 👍

I knew a Gentleman who worked for the SIU, he was a retired Police officer. You do the math.

I totally agree with this documentary. Police officers act like they are the king of the streets.

Police literally do get away with murder because others cover their backs in corruption. When you're minding your own business and not a criminal, there are those in police that use you for their psycho behaviours. You don't have to do anything wrong if you are confronted by police. You just be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Unfortunately.

They are much worst than kings of the streets. They are a gang of blue that roam the streets and there's no one to stop them. They are much more dangerous than gangs like the crips, bloods, latin kings, and ms13, and all the white supremacy gangs put together. This gang in blue are able to get away with murders, shootings, intimidations, brutality, choke hold that result in deaths, theft, corruption, violence, physical attacks, all without any accountability. There's nobody to stop them. The courts never convict them, courts work in collusion with them, both courts and the judicial system work in tandem to promote mass incarceration. They carry guns and badges legally, and abuse those powers. They openly have abused their powers, turned them into powers of corruption. Yes america, peel the layers and you will see for yourself the most dangerous gang in america is the gang in blue. And they roam our streets freely every day, they are unstoppable. Every american citizen is at risk daily from this gang.

In any other job in society he would have been terminated long ago...

Well ... any other job except the entire Ontario Public Service ;-) ... Attorney General of Ontario is another very problematic area - rife with internal corruption and no oversight agency. They oversee everyone else lol. No coincidence they have the highest rate of harassment and bullying complaints after Police - only reason its not equal is because Attorney General can suppress things from going public and issue a gag order on the Media from any further reporting if something slips out. Look up Ontario Attorney General bullying / and the “secret” Turn The Ship Around report - 3rd party bullying investigation that they refused to act on or allow anyone else to see. Cesspool.

Yeah, the name drop at the end was definitely something I applaud. While you can't get all the information of an open case, the people who won't speak to you is very telling. The SIU seems to be merely cosmetic, and the people overseeing the hearings are complicit in any further crimes committed by an officer, if they didn't take the badge and gun from when they had plenty of opportunity. The fact they're still attempting to say that it wasn't his fault when a brother officer put a full ten pieces of lead through him, shows just how terrified that officer was of Nathan Parker, but also reveals an almost childish attempt to play devils advocate. It was common knowledge that once his anger was up, someone was getting a beating. I'm just glad it was a straight up cop with a clean record. Had it been someone else they'd probably be in the can instead of Nathan.

The Niagara Police created a situation where their own officers were put in danger. I wonder if Parker bullied other officers? I wouldn’t doubt it.

Meet him in a dark Alleyway? LOL I wouldn’t want to meet him in broad daylight in a busy courtroom 😂

We need more police discipline! Take their badges, that’s the only punishment that will work. It’s a privilege to hold that badge!

Oh they've been caught, but the union protects them . That and qualified immunity! They hide under that veil like vampires from the sun. Abolishing that immunity and the union are the only way that anything will EVER change. Until then... all we can do is to stand back and watch. That, and to learn how to protect ourselves, by recording every police interaction and learning and knowing our rights!

I was sexually assaulted by LPS (London) during an arrest back in 2011. OIPRD and SIU were involved. even after the arrest was deemed invalid and all charges against me were dropped, SIU decided that everything was a-ok. the cops involved even got promoted soon after.

His younger brother was quite the "big brother" he couldn't find as a young man. His adversity made him a stronger and better role model for others to follow in a difficult world.

My sister suffers from mental illness. A cop once showed up at my mother's apartment after my sister had a mental episode. My mother wanted her to be taken to CAMH because my mother was not able to take her herself. Police showed up and one officer in particular was rude and aggressive towards her. Upon arriving to the hospital the officer began getting physical towards my sister. He thrashed her around. My mother asked him to stop and get help from somone else in order to restrain her. The officer threatened to charge my sister and said he would arrest my mother for interfering. Nurses were near by but turned a blind eye after he took them aside and sweet talked them in private. It was truly unprofessional.

I recall a number of mental health checks resulting in death from this past summer. They were as prominent in the news due to the BLM protests. They clearly aren't trained to deal with someone in a mental health crisis. Even worse if someone like this officer having a discipline problem shows up to their door.

The mentally ill are targeted by police and face discrimination, but it seems mostly only Black Lives Matter. Rather than forming protest groups, people with a mental illness hide. There are news stories about mentally ill cops who are terrified to reveal their illness to police forces.

I love how actual charges (assault?) on top of "disciplinary action" against these officers never even seems to be a consideration? Yet, citizens are charged in the blink of an eye, sometimes with real life damaging implications for "questionable" offenses. Really makes my blood boil.
