    Question: I’m sending sound from the line out to my A7sII, and it looks like from the levels that I’m not getting separate L and R tracks - as if they’re mixed, identical meters. Can I output tracks 1 and 2 as individual tracks so I can mix later? If so, how?

    Thank you for the video. Can you please tell me how to prevent getting the camera/tripod handling noise into the recorded sound when I mount my zoom h5 directly onto camera's hotshoe mount? In my experience when I used the zoom h5 on camera instead of microphone, I got all kind of handling noise into the signal and the audio is unusable, what is the solution? Will you make some kind of shock mount for field recorders to prevent this kind of issue with noise when handling camera/operating tripod? Many thanks for your reply.

I am feeding a 'Movo MV-RC100 3.5mm Male Line-in to Male Microphone Attenuator Cable' from my zoom line out into mic in on the GH5 using a Sennheiser AVX wireless system it works but nowhere near as good as it does straight into the Zoom, it seems to be picking up more noise? what am I doing wrong? Your F1 would be much more useful with a tripod screw socket.Adapters are just one more thing to carry. It would be more useful than the two bars in the back. Maybe its ok for the shotgun mic, but for other applications a tripod screw would be much more helpful. It would allow for many more practical mounting situations.

    Shame it cannot generate a 1KHz lineup tone. I've tried to copy a file with the tone on to an SD card but my Zoom H6 does not see the file. The file needs to have a name that the recorder would generate eg. ZOOM0001 which is a bit confusing. Also if I create a dedicated folder for my lineup tone the recorder won't see it.

    Damn this is super quality content. Brief, straight to the point. But one question. If we record “directly” to the dslr, does it mean we bypass the zoom recorder, and the sound input form the mic just go to the dslr ? My point is, i believe zoom recorder has way better quality than the camera internal preamp. Or, both the cam and the zoom will record the sound. Because you said “backup”

    This is the closest answer I've gotten for what I need help with. I have an H4N, an external microphone (deity), and dslr (t5i). I'd like the sound from the external mic recorded onto the video footage and a backup with the H4N. I have an XLR cable from H4N going to external mic. An attenuator cable from H4N going to dslr. I can't seem to get good sound on the camera footage with this setup. H4N clips sound great. From your video I don't see the option to adjust Line Output Level on my H4N. Line Output Level isn't an option. As I scroll through the options this is what I see 1. LO CUT (mic & input: off) 2.COMP/LIMITn(mic & input: off) 3. MONITOR: ON 4. LEVEL AUTO: OFF 5. MONO MIX: OFF 6. MS MATRIX: OFF 7. PHANTOM +24V 8. PLUG-IN: ON It looks like you're showing us on an H5N? What is the equivalent option with the H4N? Thanks for your help.

    I'm wondering, won't the quality be better if you record the audio onto the zoom recorder then sync later. Otherwise when you plug into camera, the camera does its own processing and converting which is probably less than quality on an affordable camera. Got my H6 a couple of days ago. While really impressed and happy with the package, I am terribly confused and doubtful about it's viability mounted on my dslr / shoulder rig... It's picking up so much "vibrations" (I guess, very damped low frequency sounds, but very present) from my hands or whatever operations I make while filming that it just ruins the audio... I just ordered a Rycote shock mount specially designed for Zoom devices, bit seeing mixed reviews I am not get optimistic about it, plus there aren't really any othr alternatives out there to solve this critical issue .. :( I hope you could eventually point some ways to avoid this? Otherwise great value packed in a little device!

    There is no splitter cable necessary to connect an H4n Pro or H5 to your DSLR. You can connect any standard 3.5mm stereo audio cable from the Zoom device's output to your DSLR audio input. If the output from the recorder is too high, you may need to lower the output level or use an attenuator cable to reduce the signal. If you need to connect headphones in addition to outputting the audio to your DSLR, then you will need a splitter cable.

Though when listening to the device with headphones I can’t really hear the noise, but once uploaded to my computer then I can hear some fuzzy noise.. So if it’s the zoom what can I do to fix that? Plus, I don’t know how to transfer the zoom H4n audio straight to my computer, I’ve got a USB cable, but apparently you need to go on USB mode on the menu for your computer to recognise the device, but there is no USB function on the zoom menu the last thing on the menu is an SD card and that’s it?

    The sound on the SD card should be higher quality because the H5 has preamps and internal circuitry of higher quality than the camera, which was built to capture good images, not good sound. With inferior audio electronics, the camera audio won't be as good as a dedicated recorder/preamp as the H5. A high end video editing program such as Adobe Premiere Pro can sync up the higher quality H5 SD card audio with the lower quality camera audio. Once the better audio is synced with the video, the lower quality camera audio is discarded. That's was the camera audio is often called a reference or scratch audio. But the camera audio should be better than it would be if it wasn't getting its audio from the H5.

    Sorry to ask back again (I have the same question), but either the answering people don't understand the question, or the asking people don't understand the answers... The question is as follows: Case 1: I attach the Zoom to my DSLR and record a video by connecting the zoom via line out to the camera. I then review the sound quality of the video recorded on the memory card of the camera. Case 2: I don't connect the Zoom to my DSLR but still record the sound via the Zoom (to later sync it to the video file via Premiere or any video program). Then I review the audio quality on the memory card of the Zoom device. Question is: Is there any difference between the sound quality of the file on memory card of the Zoom device when recorded seperately to the one also recorded with the Zoom but connected to the camera? This should have nothing to do with preamps and interior audi electronics of the camera, because the files to be compared were both recorded with the Zoom and not with the camera audio recording electronics. Thanks!

  • @TheEdgeofYourSeat

    @TheEdgeofYourSeat

    6 жыл бұрын

    The audio going from the recorder to the camera DOES go through the camera's audio circuitry and preamps. Both files ARE NOT recorded by the recorder, only the file on the recorder. These recorders do output high quality sound, so it depends on the preamps of your camera. If they are good and it has high quality encoding options, it should be very similar to the quality of the recorder. If however you are asking will the recorder record the same quality whether it is outputting to the camera or not, the answer is YES.
