Hello, Norwegian guy here. I want to clarify some things about Pop Tarts. I've never heard about Pop Tarts being banned over here, as it's never been officially sold over here. American foods aren't sold here regularly, rather it's imported over because of interest for american candy. There exist small candy shops that specializes in imported popular candy, and American candy is by far the most common. I've bough Pop Tarts in a Norwegian grocery store for 10$ a pack. Import fees are outrageos here, and they only get one batch once in a while. The Norwegian state want to avoid import goods competing with locally produced goods in price. Instead of making food cheap, get rid of the competitors.

ADHD is not a behavioral disorder, it’s a neurological disorder. Saying it’s a behavioral thing is why I and so many others were yelled at and told repeatedly that we need to “control it” or that we’ll “have to grow out of it if you want to be taken seriously” as we were growing up dealing with it and the stigma from family members and teachers.

Was really interesting to hear your perspective on Gatorade! I always assumed it was a good sports drink, but hearing from an actual runner really challenged my perspective! Personally, I only ever drink it when I'm having intense nausea/vomiting, since most other drinks do not appeal to me when I'm in a state like that and need hydration, and its the only drink my body seems fine handling when that happens. So to me, its less of a sports drink and more of a sickness drink, and this video re-enforces that to me more than ever before!

Don't quote me on this, because I don't actually have any evidence, but from what I know is that it helps to quickly regain lost electrolytes during workout because not only does it have a lot of electrolytes, but because it's made in a way so that your body will absorb them fast. Yes, you can get electrolytes from literally anything, but digestion is a slow process that takes a lot of your energy and can even put you to sleep, none of which sportsmen who want to get right into the action want to happen, that's what Gatorade tries to do. So far this may sound like a puffpiece, so let me state this: Gatorade has a lot of additives, if what you're looking for is to quickly refill electrolytes there are better products, and if you aren't in a hurry and don't NEED to quickly regain the energy lost, there really isn't a need for them, just take a break, eat something good, drink some water, give it a few minutes and keep going.

Corn syrup is an interesting ingredient. On its own as a sweetener it may not be much different from sugar, but the real trouble is that it's made from corn. Corn farming is heavily subsidized in the States, so much so that the main way farmers make a profit is to produce an exorbitant surplus of corn crop. Only so much of it can be sold fresh or canned for consumption so the rest goes into biofuels and of course, the production of corn syrup. And again, the surplus is so much that even after fresh crops and ethanol production the country has enough corn for syrup that food companies can buy it up as a cheap and abundant sweetener for foods. Cheap and abundant enough that foods that have no need to be sweet (i.e. American breads) get packed with corn syrups for the sake of "taste".

If you ever want to buy anything from Gatorade to drink for any practice/competitive event, the best thing you can buy is one of their water bottles. And then you can fill it up with water and take a drink whenever you need to. I can guarantee you that it will be far more refreshing as opposed to one of their actual sports drinks.

I remember when I was a kid, I always used to get a box of Lucky Charms every Christmas (they don't make them over here so you have to buy them imported which means they're like twice as expensive as any other cereal). They have UK compliant nutritional information stuck on top of the regular American nutrition facts, and at the bottom was a disclaimer saying "may have an adverse effect on attention and hyperactivity in children" (I liked to read stuff on the box). I always wondered what that was about, and I'm guessing now that they probably contain Yellow 5...

I’m reminded of when my mom had a really bad sinus infection and our doctor said she could use Gatorade to get some sugar and electrolytes back….if she diluted it with water first. He said straight gatorade is actually not as good as just drinking water for replacing fluids. That paired with their shady way of handling research studies on it’s effectiveness is just the cherry on top. 😅

Honestly, gatorade (and other sports drinks) are only really useful for rather advanced cases of dehydration Not that you wouldn't be able to recover with just water and some food alone, but having all of these things in drinkable form and easy access can help if you are away from your home or if you simply do not have the time to wait for digestion to do its thing properly

I never would have expected foods that I would normally eat to be banned outside of the US. #10: Really; ADHD? That's a stupid reason to ban a certain food. ADHD isn't a disease, it's just something some people are born with.

  • @pinkdarkboy7127

It's not banned because they think it causes ADHD. It's banned because it causes adverse effects on people with ADHD... and people withoit ADHD... so really it has nothing to do with ADHD. ADHD was just a buzzword in the 2000s and 90s so they threw it around a lot for no reason.

The smokiness on BBQ foods can also cause cancer. Yeah, I tend to agree. I think people forget that cancer IS a naturally occurring type of disease. Virtually anything can cause your cells to mutate, so therefore, almost anything carries at least a small cancer risk. It's more about how big of a risk... For example, Smoking (not meat) comes with a OVERWELMING risk of cancer. Eating cherries does not.
