I’m pretty sure my favourite banned advert was made with the specific intent of being banned. A kid goes up to a drinks vending machine and buys two cans of Coke. He then puts the two cans on the ground and stands on them… so he can reach the Pepsi button. That is _genius._

I have a lot of favorite weird or banned commercials. But I especially love Japanese commercials because like the 10th entry on the list you don’t immediately know what they’re advertising. There’s rare occasions where they do. But it’s the weird ones that are the best

My thoughts on all the commercials: Dead dad:Dear Lord this one is childish. As a person who was lost their dad themselves, this ad is VERY immature. Pot noodle:I agree with Strider,it is funny. Carl's Jr:Can we skip this one please? It makes me uncomfortable. Doritos Ultrasound:This commercial is not exactly.........comfortable to say the least. KFC Zinger:Even if im not british,i can see why so many parents complained about it possibly teaching bad manners. Starbucks Race Togheter:A pretty good concept with terrible execution.Tho the dance moves on the actual ad do be lookin' fresh. Spudmonkeys:Oh my God,this is pure uncanny valley fuel. Whopper Virgin:2 words:VERY disrespectful. Arby's Vegetarian helpline:Im sorry but this one is genuinely hillarious.Especially the vegetarian-friendly burger. Pepsi BLM:This advertisement is pure stupidity.

I actually like the McDonald's one with the dead dad. Different people cope in different ways. Taking a kid who's missing his dad to McDonald's is probably not an unusual thing. Going to a fast food place is often a special treat to kids and it allows the mother and her son to sit in a less sad environment than home. Sometimes that's what you need.

The Ad is well made, and honesty I do not think it would have been offensive It had simply led with the fact that it was a mcdonalds ad or atleast partnered with a charity meant to help people in that situation... revealing at the end that it was just about a fish sandwich does come off as extremely manipulative. Most people probably thought the ad was for something like a charity or other organization meant to help grieving children when they first saw it, and if a parent who recently lost their partner saw it, it might be an organization that could help their broken family. So they watch to the end only to find out: this is not an attempt to link you to resources if you are in this situation, or gather money for families who are going through this. This is a goddamn ad for goddamn mcdonalds! fuck you!

Honestly, as far as the whole Arby's commercial mocking vegans go, all I'm going to say on it is this: If the crazier members of the vegan crowd are allowed to do things like... - Host 'funeral processions' in grocery stores in the meat sections for the animals - Harass people for eating meat - Make all sorts of emotionally-manipulative media and flyers trying to promote their cause - Hold demonstrations outside high schools, colleges and universities ...then it's only fair that businesses whose entire schticks revolve around serving meat get to make some humor at their expense. I mean, the crazy-vegans like to portray restaurants that serve meat and stores that sell meat as murderous hellholes bathed in the blood of the innocent, so why can't these places in turn portray vegans as mentally unsound individuals? If you can't take it, don't dish it out people.

I understand completely. It blew my mind when I saw kids with parents barely paying the bills demand and get expensive things. When I was a kid we had basically a coupon day every month. We'd go to a McDonald's and cut a gazillion coupons, then sort them, and then price compare. Some stores will price match an advertised price. By then I'm bored and tired. We then spent an eternity at the grocery trying to get the most for our money. Back then some stores would double the value of coupons. It was looked down upon to have a stack of coupons back then. We didn't go hungry at least. The getting to go to McDonald's was exciting. Unfortunately, it's much harder to get and use grocery coupons. You have to have a mobile, a mobile app, and those coupons are only for that store. Which means if a different store has a better price, that coupon is worthless.

I have a bad history with vegetarians and vegans. A couple of times a week during my second year of highschool I had to put up with a small but aggressive group of them who would terrorize the courtyard(there wasn't a proper cafeteria at my school) with the ”meat is murder” equivalent of a pep rally featuring graphic photos of slaughterhouses and animal abuse being forced upon any who dared to eat meat. It was like a scene from an 80's movie and it didn't matter how much people complained because the principal refused to ”infringe on their freedom of speech” because ”they weren't harming anyone”. I retailed once by sitting next to their main setup and ate a spread of as much meat based food as I could afford at the time from the roach coaches and was given what they called ”in school suspension” for harassment. Wasn't even premeditated, I was just sick of their shit so when I saw that they were setting up I did the same. By the end of it most of us were either eating in our classrooms or just tuned them out and I have a vague memory of licking gravy off a flyer before handing it back to whoever shoved it in my food a couple of times. I wouldn't be surprised if all of this actually boosted sales of burgers and chicken from the heart attack wagons.

I even have trouble with lamb/mutton, most pork cuts and most seafood. I'm even sensitive to water to the point where the Sparkletts brand is the only non distilled water I've found that doesn't destroy my insides if I drink it. We think I'm reacting to a chemical filtering agent that seems to be in everything including those cartridges for refrigerators. About all I can safely eat without at least some negative reaction is beef, chicken, onions, garlic, peppers and starches like rice and potatoes. The list of what I can't eat has been growing since my early 20s. Pretty easy actually, see if you look at the burger it has loads of peppers on it and those actually contain quite a bit of sugar themselves. It has red and green peppers so that's about 6-8 grams of sugar, Burger Buns typically contains 4 grams, BBQ sauce tends to run about 6 grams. 5 grams for a double patty burger. The cheese surprisingly doesn't contain much sugar at all so it's negligible. The onions can be as low as about 4 grams but also up to 7 grams. Right there you have about 28 grams of sugar on average for just the basic ingredients, not counting anything that the company would do to increase sugar levels beyond that point. While a Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar which I think is a fairly well understood standard for a candy bar if you ask me is only 24 grams of sugar. So without even getting into extraneous ingredients like seasonings and such, this burger will have more sugar that a chocolate bar and that's if you picked up your stuff from a grocery store and cooked it yourself.

I remember that Quizno's ad. I was weirdly mesmerized by them and found out weeks later these were NOT made by the Quiznos marketing team. I guess Quiznos reached out to the creators to use them in their commercials and thought it would appeal to the young people. I'll admit, I did want Quiznos after watching these ads, but the subs weren't that great when I went.

Here in NZ I recall ads few years ago, over the top sexualised and sexist content with young teen woman, but was Burger King here was banned. Other were series of ads to stop speeding and drink driving that showed horrific accidents and patients dying or crippled. We're shown prime time until banned till after 9pm. Was needed for both

Starbucks Barista: "So what do you think about microaggressions?" Me: Ma'am I just want my latte. I was a barista around that time, same for the cop thing. I got one dude who came in asking about the cop thing. I told him it wasn't really my place to talk about it. He then made some big show about how he wasn't going to come back, acting like he was so cool and edgy as he went "Yeah sorry I don't visit places that don't respect cops." ... So like, why did you come in, then? Just to be an edgyboye? What purpose does it serve? I'm just here to serve people coffee, dude.

I'm surprised he didn't mention the Bud Lite ad from the summer of 2001 where this dude on a plane flight is turning down increasingly exorbitant offers for his pack of Bud Lite. Finally, the pilot comes out of the cockpit and tells him "I'll let you fly the plane!" and it cuts to a shot of the plane doing crazy loops and stuff. Three towers and the first two don't count why that ad was taken off the air. (Yes, the incident happened after the ad started airing, but it did get it taken off, so I suppose it counts.) Part 2, please?
