My best friend raves and coke zero. Only coke he will drink.

I’m shocked MUG root beer was on this list. MUG is the brand that got me into root beer as a kid. The bulldog was adorable (in my opinion) and my mom let me have it because it was caffeine free. I loved MUG root beer so much that whenever we went to restaurants they always seemed to have it and that’s what I got with my meals.

As an avid root beer consumer I support MUG. Top 3 big brands are Barqs,MUG,AW. But small brands are where it's at. Barqs is the closest thing to real root beer but it's not real root beer

I had a mug root beer the other day for the first time in over a year (last time I had a root beer was last year and it was faygo) and oh damn did that bottle of mug taste good. Root beer is some of the best stuff ever and even more so when you haven’t had it in a long time

Try Ranch soda or Corn Oil soda. Those sodas are Bug no-nos

While I get adding spices to drinks, a thing that's actually common with mulled wines, chai tea, ginger beer, etc, I think a spiced cola is going to be hard to do. Cola lends itself to a lot of different flavor variants, like gourmand with vanilla, citrus with lemon (a favorite of my mom), and fruity with cherry, but spice is oddly something that should work in theory but in practice is hard to do well if at all. It's actually quite baffling. Maybe it's the formulas these larger companies are working with?

A ginger cola might have been workable if it hadn't been Pepsi. Pepsi's got a certain edge to it which gives you less leeway with ginger's bite. And a lot of people nowadays who hear of 'cinnamon' or 'ginger' taste in a soda will be utterly unprepared for something authentic. They're used to the sweet, cartoonish parodies of those flavors in things like candy or the typical ginger ale formula. Real cinnamon and ginger BURN a bit.

I feel sorry for Coca Cola Life. I really liked their attempt at using a new sweetener, that I personally really liked, I used to put stevia in my tea all the time until I started to like my tea unsweetened. And the Coca Cola Life tasted good. Was sad to see it vanish so soon.

I also really liked it, I felt like it wasn't as sweet as regular Coke and didn't have that nasty aftertaste that Coke Zero tends to have, it seemed like a perfect balance. Then I stopped seeing it just out of the blue and couldn't figure out why, I didn't know so many people hated it.

I thought it was awful. To me it didn't really taste much different than diet, but still had a bunch of calories. Instead of being the best of both worlds it ended up being the worst.

I want to share an experience with the #10 spot. I drank Mountain Dew Flamin’ Hot before, and I thought it was okay. It’s not a go-to soda flavor for me, but it had a spicy cinammon flavor that tastes like Hot Tamales candy. It’s not my favorite Mountain Dew flavor at all, but I don’t mind it. Great video Strider!

That Peeps Pepsi can is seriously GORGEOUS I have to admit.

I actually like Mug's rootbeer. It's very mild in taste compared to other root beer (doesn't mean I wouldn't enjoy a good rootbeer though). The soda that failed for me was something called "Pepsi Pogi" it's an orange colored Pepsi. The taste was like a washed down Royal orange...

There were actually 2 versions of Mtn Dew Flamin' Hot. The one most people are familiar with is the 2022 store release, which had a lime flavor to it. This came after the online exclusive release in 2021, which lacked the lime flavor. I actually somewhat enjoyed the retail release, but the original one lacked flavor and was just unenjoyable.

The marketing was always weird, it never found a niche, and Coke Zero already existed to fill the "tastes more or less like Coke without the calories" and in did it with no calories at all. Trying to market Coca-Cola as more "natural" was a bridge too far for most people who saw it for the nonsense that it was.

I actually kinda liked the Flamin Hot Mtn Dew. It gave me a similar sensation to eating a jalapeño popper followed by a swig of sprite. Which may not seem appetizing at first, but it’s more so the spicy sensation paired with a sweet citrus chaser

I actually tried the Peeps Pepsi and it was actually pretty good. As for the Tropical Sprite, it was my brother's favorite soda whenever we'd got to McDonald's and he was a bit upset when he found out it was discontinued.

Diet Coke being #1 surprised me, cause at work I see people constantly order it and I never understood why, though that has more to do with the fact that i'm allergic to fake sugars.

Diet coke is kind of an acquired taste, but once your used to it you might even start craving it. I'll drink it over Cole zero any day. But that's more I'm ok with the diet coke sweetener but Im sensitive Splenda or stevia. The smallest amount of those in a drink makes me want to gag.

My problem with Diet Coke was the weird aftertaste which my roommate compared to chemical salt when she tried it. That being said, we both hate their limited edition flavors, Move and Dreamworld, much more due to the overly sweet nature of these flavors. Dreamworld had this off-putting cotton candy aftertaste while Move tasted like Coke mixed with old bubblegum.

I tried all those limited edition Coke flavors when we had each at the store at which I work. They were alright in my own opinion. Can honestly say I would not drink the Space one again because I found the cotton candy flavor a bit cloying, not enough to not finish the bottle, but enough to know I did in fact not like it compared to more traditional flavored Coke. The Dreamworld, I got a citrusy taste out of, didn't hate it, I tasted mango and I hate mango, but with Coke and whatever else I was tasting made it tolerable. The Move, however, I liked it. Not enough to put my name on a petition to try to bring it back, but it had a coconut flavor and that was interesting.

I’ve worked as a server for a few years and I agree. Older people like to order Diet Coke and get sweet n low in their coffee. Context being that sweet n low is also disgusting and is beat by Splenda and Truvia by a long shot, yet still remains in production. Younger people tend to just order water, but if they get a diet soda they specifically ask if we have Coke Zero.

I actually turned to my husband before starting the video to say “I like watching PhantomStrider because he always says something about how if you like the thing that ends up on the Top Ten Worst list, it doesn’t mean anything bad about you.” Then I played the video, and it was one of the first things I heard! :) thanks for always being such a positive force on KZread! I always liked the color for Coke Life (felt like I lived in some strange alternate reality where red Coke was the weird one though) but the ads you showed are definitely unsettling. If I’m going to drink something that’s not great for me, I don’t need to go fully existential thinking about life while I’m at it haha.

Sad part about the hot Cheeto Mtn Dew is they originally released a limited run of it and I got some. I, as well as some friends at work, all enjoyed it. We were pleasantly surprised. It was definitely a weird experience and not something I'd go to the store and buy, but it was good considering all the awful gimmick sodas we've gotten recently. Like 6 months later they announced it was coming to stores as a actual release. Was hyped, bought a few boxes immediately. I, as well as those same friends from before, all agreed that it was one of the worst things we've ever tried (Next to Whole lotta chocolata Bang) and something was definitely changed from the limited run before. No idea what it was but they were 100% 2 different sodas.

Dr Pepper Red Fusion was one that I've tried A LOT back when it was around. I was saddened when it went away all of a sudden, but I would love to try it again. Even if in a limited run.

I loved dnL! Instead of lemon/lime soda, it was lime/lemon with a lime forward taste. It was great! And now we see all kinds of brands and fast food restaurants, such as Sonic, serving limeade. I think its time for 7up to bring it back!

To anyone who wants to know what Dr. Pepper Red Fusion tasted like can always go to a gas station that has a drink fountain. Some of these fountains have flavor boosters that you can put into your drinks, including a cherry flavor. Almost every fountain has Dr. Pepper, so there ya go!

They don't have "Pepsi Max" in the states now, it's called "Pepsi Zero Sugar". And it while it used to have that extra caffeine kick, in 2022 they reduced it, although it's still more than most regular soda. And other Pepsico sodas with Zero Sugar also have extra Caffeine, including Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar.

I *hope* she was just paranoid about that common descriptor for diet beverages because older artificial sweeteners had actually proven to be bad news. The pathetic alternative is that she's one of those folks like the mother who saw the mark of the Beast in the brand logo for Monster energy drinks. They feel so clever because they've cracked an imaginary conspiracy scenario which hinges on the assumption devious culprits will act like The Riddler... volunteering, for no good reason, little clues to the public that could give them away. As a kid in the U.K during the mid 80’s I remember trying a chocolate flavoured fizzy drink. I think it was by Schweppes and called ‘Chocolade’, needless to say it tasted disgusting.

I absolutely HATED Diet Coke growing up, but when I got older I began to really enjoy it. I get random cravings every now and then too lol.

I remember first seeing Peep Pepsi and immediately going “that looks disgusting” and I’m glad I wasn’t alone on that. A few of my friends on discord liked it but I’m not surprised most people recoiled at the thought of Peeps and Pepsi combined. I don’t like vanilla soda in general so maybe that’s why I didn’t like the idea of a marshmallow flavored soda. Also, I had a friend who liked diet coke. I much prefer the regular ones tbh lol

I dont like Peeps or drink Pepsi, but I really liked the combo they made of the two. It was like a vanilla/marshmallow combo of Pepsi. 1 normal bottle here in America had like 70 grams of sugar though😅

Coca Cola Life probably has that green packaging (which I honestly think looks nice) because the drink contains stevia. Many, MANY drinks and products that contain stevia instead of sugar have green on their packaging, like it's some sort of signature color for stevia (much like how blue is commonly a signature color for milk chocolate in many regions).

I actually enjoyed Coke Life because it was the low calorie alternative. Some artificial sugars, like those in sugar free gum and diet sodas, trigger migraines for me. Stevia did not. But it was always hard to find and like you, I never saw anyone drink it (other than myself).

From this list, I've only had three of these. For Flaming Hot Dew I never tried it even though I usually like nearly all the flavors because this one sounded unappealing. Peeps Pepsi wasn't too bad but was a little too sweet. I made the mistake of getting a case back in April which had 3 packs of mini-cans. I'm actually glad it was mini cans because anything bigger would be too much. For dnL and Sprite Remix, I did enjoy them and had often bought them from school vending machines. Kinda missed them when they were no longer available. Sprite Remix more than dnL. [Forgot about Diet Coke, but I don't really care for it.][Side note, when Crystal Pepsi was rereleased I had regularly bought it.]

My opinions of each one 10. Mountain Dew Flamin Hot was like a normal Mountain Dew with a hit of cinnamon red hots 9. Pepsi Peeps, way too sweet and it took me almost two days just to drink a 20 oz bottle 8. Coca-Cola Life, never had it 7. 7-up Gold, wasn't alive when it came out. 6. Dr. Pepper Red Fusion? never heard of it 5. dnL? caffeinated 7-up? never heard of it 4. Mug Root Beer, while okay to drink, A&W is way better. 3. Pepsi Ginger? again never heard of it 2. Sprite Remix, heard of it and was alive when it was out but never had it 1. Diet Coke? why is this number one? Diet Coke is actually pretty good and I prefer it over the normal battery acid Coca-Cola unless it's a McDonald's Coca-Cola. Those are my opinions on every one Coca-Cola has never been the same to me since they discontinued Vault in 2011, bring that back then maybe I'll like the company again.

One spicy drink I really liked was Mt. Dew Ginger Snap'd. The gingerbread cookie flavor was light, and actually really good. I wish they'd bring it back.

The underwater setting is part of the reason SpongeBob is my favourite cartoon too. I've always been interested in marine life since I was a kid.

Personally I'd love to get my hands on Coke Life, but that's because aspartame makes me feel really ill. It sounds like a great alternative for people who, like me, can't have normal diet sodas.

Also, thank you Strider! I have been trying to prove to my wife for years that DNL was a real soda. I used to love it!!

I honestly really like the "Mtn. Dew: Flamin' Hot". I liked how, in the beginning, it's Mountain Dew with a hint of lime. Then you swallow it, and that's when the heat kicks in.

My favorite soda has been Diet Mountain Dew for over 25 years. But a close second-favorite has always been Diet Coke. I always liked Pepsi better than Coke, but Diet Coke better than Diet Pepsi. Now that the "zero" versions of these drinks are available, I generally prefer those, but I still like the "diet" versions just fine. Also, the emphasis in "aspartame" is on the first syllable.

I personally remember seeing the Coca Cola life ad on tv as a kid and I was highly confused on why they made another “less calorie” drink when they had one with practically none. I think I’ve tried it once and I liked it, but I can’t tell the difference between a diet or a regular coke in general so I don’t think I felt any difference in that either.

I liked it. For me, the whole "diet" drinks taste like shit, well, they aren't sweet enough. But this "less" sweet cola was what i enjoyed.

Diet coke gives me the worst diarrhea... i haven't had it in many many years, but I don't think I'll ever need to test that hypothesis again

I am from Chile, the country where Coca Cola Life was created (along with Argentina), therefore one of the first countries to have it on their shelves, but despite that I have never tried one, nor have I ever seen anyone buy one, everyone preferred Coca Zero or normal Coke.

I absolutely LOVED Pepsi Ginger!!! It was only available in this one specific store and my sibling had bought it for me because I love spicy-ish drinks (it just has that tinge of spiciness), I didn't know it was officially discontinued but now I'm quite devastated 😭

Me too, I liked Pepsi Max Ginger. I kind of figured it wasn't very popular though as I always saw it being sold at half the price of the other flavours. I used to pick up 2 litre bottles for just 99p.

I remember in high school that one student had a can of the Flamin Hot Mountain Dew with them nearly every day until it was discontinued. Apparently they bought a lot.

I just thought that the BIGGEST soda failure had to be New Coke. It probably needed a category all its own.

Ginger Pepsi was delicious. My then-girlfriend knew I loved the stuff and used coupons to buy me TWELVE CASES, which I proceeded to pack into my work lunches for weeks after. Maybe my pallette is messed up, but I genuinely enjoyed it. It and Pepsi Blue should make a comeback at the same time so I can try mixing them... hell, bring back Crystal Pepsi for a trifecta of sweetness. Do that, I'll do a 1-1 combination taste test of them in twos and all at once.

The only flavor soda I like is cherry Pepsi and cherry cola but actually I’m staying away from sugar and sodas, so I can work on more healthier stuff Maybe like once a month or on a rare occasion, I can have soda

Love your videos, and hate I missed out on Coke life. The thing used to sweeten diet sodas can actually be harmful if you have certain health conditions, or just not advised; speaking from experience with thyroid/ hormone issues. So I hate that it didn’t sell well because i can see the benefit of it, a more natural sweetened coke that still tastes as good, and personally I like the packaging. Always enjoy your videos, they are super informative and you approach everything with respect, which is awesome.

Just here to mention that Coca-Cola made Coca-Cola Spiced, an attempt at the 'spiced' soda thing. I tried it, and it was pretty good. The flavor currently is Raspberry, which is done wonderfully. It's available in both sugar and zero sugar versions. Only thing about it that's not commonly appreciated is the smell; some folks think it smells like mouthwash. Personally, I love it. As for Diet Coke? It's not bad, just not as flavorful as Zero Sugar Coke. It's got a subtle sweetness to it, but that's about it. Great video, Strider! Keep up the wonderful work!

I love raspberry anything and Spiced Coke is pretty nice. I don't understand the "smells like mouthwash" thing at all, though. All I smelled was Coke and raspberry. That being said, even though I finished the bottle I got to try Spiced Coke, I still prefer Cherry Coke.

@@kriscynical I think it has to do with the flavoring in Coke Spiced that makes it smell like mouthwash, but I could be wrong. Some folks have different tastes to it, so not everyone is tasting/smelling raspberry Coke. Personally though, besides Coke Spiced, I like Vanilla Coke. I enjoy it more than regular Coke due to the vanilla flavor being more noticeable.

I just gotta say the “Flamin Hot Mtn Dew” was actually amazing. It had a nice refreshing lime flavor to it and the ‘spicy’ part was just this tingly feeling you’d get after swallowing, not an actual flavor thing. Really unique and fun experience.

The Pepsi Peeps honestly wasn't that bad. It tasted like vanilla yogurt to me.

Hahah, I am a massive lover of Diet Coke. I didn't like the sweetness of normal coke, my dad let me try Diet Coke, and I loved it ever since! I understand I'm in the minority, but it was much better than some of the other flavors I tried. Like Coke Starlight and Dreamlight, those were...a flavor.

diet coke is my favorite soda, even when i could drink sugar(my dads diabetic and now i am). idk why its #1, its sold out half the time i go to the store. maybe they stock it less, but just from my own experience its pretty popular. i love it so much i frequently avoid restaurants that serve diet pepsi lol

A couple that I was surprised you didn't mention (probably because they weren't available in Australia) were Sugar Free Big Red Vanilla Float and Big Punch Fruit Punch. These two come from the Big Red soda company based in Texas. Sugar Free Big Red Vanilla Float combined the flavor of Big Red (which is primarily flavored with licorice,) cream and vanilla. The three flavors are nice by themselves, but don't really go well together. This was quickly yanked off the market due to poor sales. Big Punch Fruit Punch, FWIR, tasted like that cheap Kool-Aid knock off that your church would serve kids at gatherings.

I didn't realize coke zero was the preferred option. I personally despise it. I'd still drink it over full sugar coke because that stuff tastes like diluted syrup to me, but coke zero has an unpleasant after taste and lacks the kick diet coke has. In all my years of driving up and down California and to Colorado and back, I've always had an easier time finding diet than zero. Gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, coke fridges in random stores, diet has always had more space allocated to it than zero. I dunno. Maybe us in the west are just weird.

Damn, Pepsi ginger was my favorite taste among all other flavored cola drinks I was so much disappointed, when I couldn't find it, but awful cherry pepci stayed on shelfs at same time Still in search of other ginger flavor drinks to taste ❤

Found my soulmate XD No but honestly, I found out it got discontinued through this video. I still had hope I'd stumble upon it someday again 😭 Cherry coke is... Something else. I used to love it as a child, but now it's just meh. The ginger Pepsi was so lovely with the amazing burn of the ginger (and let's not talk about Cola Vanilla because that stuff shouldn't ever have existed)

Imagine those bins that have the Bags of potatoes in them just full of perfectly intact buckets of ice cream and boxes of Ice cream and frozen food. 16 of them full to the brim wrapped up and put on a truck to be thrown out only because the Case the held them was broken or opened. Even cases of pop if they are damaged or open they go in the trash.
