I don’t even know what they’re called, who makes them, or where people even get them, but they always seem to show up around Halloween, and every old person will probably have them if they’re the type to have a candy dish/bowl somewhere around the house. Memories of a 90's kid from Hungary: way back when, the Bounty bar used to be something new and exciting for us. It was one of the first "Western" chocolate bars distributed in my area, available for a larger consumer base, not just the super rich. There were TV commecials for it, I still remember it showing a tropical island with the tagline "Bounty: The tase of Eden" or similar. We used to love it! And there were some really good generic Easter eggs, right from the "100 forintos bolt", the Hungarian equivalent of the dollar store. Personally, I really like American smarties. I'm not really a fan of very overly sweet things, so the more, I guess, mild taste of smarties is appealing to me. In fact, when my friends and I were staying in a hotel together we got a bunch of smarties, opened them, put them all in a cup, and took "sips" of the cup, which was really just eating a mouthful of smarties

The problem with American Smarties, is that they are mostly just compressed tablets of dextrose sugar, and little else. Whereas the British, and Canadian Smarties are chocolate buttons with a candy coating. I personally will take a bulk bag of them to snack on whenever I can, over one of M&M's almost any day, as the M&M's are just too sweet for my palette at least. But this is just a personal opinion of mine and should in no way be construed as a generalized statement about British/Canadian Smarties vs. American Smarties.

I bet most kids in the uk would pick smarties over m&m's. m&m's chocolate might just be different here in the uk but it tastes far better as well imo. The colours are all natural which even leads the orange one to have an orange fruit flavour to it. I do understand though that they are more ment for kids which is why they might be less sweet and have more 'healthy' attributes to them...

@soaringfox1620, me too, except mine was Hershey's Snow Caps. One time, I stayed at my mom's friends' house with her and my brother in 2000 on a weekend. That night, my babysitter let me have snow caps and I ate too many on accident and threw up in their downstairs bathroom but on the floor in front of the toilet ☹️. That was in the middle of the night. Once I woke up my mom and told her what happened, she helped me clean it up. 😢

@ 3:17 I love pretzel M&Ms. They’re my favorite kind of M&M. Sweet and salty is such a great combination!

My favorite Jelly Bean flavor is Black Licorice, and I love candy corn. The good thing about liking gross candy is that you never have to share it.

Sadly, I actually really enjoy the generic rate eggs, candy corn, and licorice (and I would probably LOVE bounty bars) but I get where others are coming from. I think my not so good taste in candy comes from only being allowed sugar free stuff as a child. 🤣

Ooh as a poor kid growing up in America in the 2000s, we also had those generic mini easter egg chocolates! I never threw them up, but they were definitely the chocolate that I would only eat weeks later after I'd eaten all the good candy and was in desperation mode for sweets. From what I remember, they just taste like cheap sugar and maybe the factory worker making them was thinking about chocolate, but that's the closest it gets to tasting like chocolate. It's funny as someone who grew up in a small town in Texas that the only other person I've seen mention them is an Australian lol. Did you also have those pink bubblegums that came in a yellow and blue wrapper that literally tasted like garbage? That was my most hated Halloween "candy" growing up and I swear I always got a million of them. Side note, I love Almond Joys which seem to be the American equivalent of Bounty bars but with almonds on top of the coconut. There's a few vegan companies that make Almond Joy equivalents, so they're one of the only chocolate bars from my childhood that I can still kind of experience now. IDK why British people hate coconut and chocolate so much lol.

Fry's Turkish Delight is absolutely delicious!!! It's my all time favourite chocolate bar! I can't believe it would rank as the worst chocolate bar on any list, that's crazy. It's chocolate coated jelly. Who wouldn't love that?!! Obviously it's one of those things you either love or hate.

I love bounty chocolates, whenever I've had celebrations it's always the mars bars chocolates that nobody wants and are left in the celebrations box. That's disappointing to find out that they have removed bounty bars from celebration boxes. Jenna xx 😀

*Rockets or Smarties?* Here, in Canada, we have both! Funny story: my mother used to be under the unfortunate _care_ of a doctor who would prescribe her lots and lots of pills. This meant that there were lots of empty pill bottles around the house. Since my favourite candy, at the time, was the chocolate Smarties, I would sort them by colour, put them in cleaned pill bottles and create my own little Smarties medecine cabinet in an old shoe box. When my mother would be taking a pill, I would eat a Smarties button candy to mimic her. Seeing me eat so many candies made her realize just how many pills she was gulping down so she eventually quit the pills and the doctor. So did I, lay off the Smarties... Another triumph for Smarties!

From what I’ve could tell, unbranded easter eggs might taste better or worse depending on the manufacturer. I remember Canada having decent enough off-brand eggs. They weren’t amazing, but the sugar didn’t really overpower me. A lot of people I know tend to buy them for baking and cake decorating. UK/Canada smarties are also a popular choice for cake decorating because of their muted taste compared to other chocolate buttons.
