I love that Strider never blames the parents nor the kids on any of these. I always get iffy when people blame the parents for kids being injured by toys. Accidents can happen out of nowhere, even with a watchful eye. Even if it is technically their fault, nobody should be blamed, that only adds more pain to the grief stricken parents.

That glass-blowing kit probably did inspire some kids to get jobs in the ever-increasing number of glass factories on the east coast, and mid-west during the early 1900's to 1940's. But yes, the chemicals used to make those pretty colors were very toxic (uranium, plus others), and it was not uncommon for the average glass-blower to live very short lives.

I mean the set isn't that dangerous the amounts of radioactive material would only be notably dangerous if ingested(the sources or the uranium ore) and the actual exposure to radiation would probably be less then an air plane ride. I mean as long as the kid was like older the 12(im assuming most 12 years olds know not to put stuff in there mouths) the effects would be extremely small if any like less than .001% increase in chance to get cancer or something like that

Everytime I hear of the aqua dots I always end up thinking of the fun beads I had as a child. No water required, you put the beads carefully onto a pre made plastic board, (or the simple square one if you were feeling inventive), then when your picture was complete, you had to iron them until they were flattened and remove in order to preserve your creation for life (or until someone accidentally or on purpose tore it or squashed it and basically destroyed it). I think they're still around now, but I don't think they're marketed as kids toys anymore, partly because of the tiny beads required and probably mostly because of the fact you had to use an iron to get it to work, and regardless of instructions stating you should ask an adult, I wonder how many children weren't quite that responsible.

About the Cabbage Patch Kids - when these were recalled, my little sister had already gotten one. I tried my absolute hardest to get this doll to eat my hair or get my fingers stuck (mind you I was a teenager and I wanted to test how true it was) and I could not get it to happen. It was laughable how hard I tried to see if this toy was dangerous and couldn't get it to do anything harmful at all. I bought one for myself (hidden high up on a shelf at Kmart) and never opened it afterwards. In fact, I now collect them when I find them and have yet to have a single issue. My sister never had any problems with hers either. I really have to wonder what on Earth these kids were doing to get them to eat their body parts.

Okay I gotta point something out about the Aqua Dots case since that incident really fascinates me. In Australia, where I live, they were called Bindeez, and they actually won the Toy of the Year award before their recall because of how incredibly popular they were. The thing is, the glue in the beads being harmful was NOT meant to happen. The manufacturers were given the instructions and ingredients for making the beads, but someone thought it would be a good idea to swap the original (Non-toxic) glue ingredient for a cheaper alternative, without notifying the brand/distributor. This cheaper ingredient, however, was the one which metabolises into GHB when ingested. Yes, it can be argued that small colourful beads are inevitably a hazard for ingestion by small children, but they would not have caused nearly as much damage if not for the cost-cutting done at the factory. I recommend reading up on the incident; there's a really good article that tells the story of how Australian doctors discovered the link between these sick children and the beads.

That creepy crawlies thing gave me quite a scare. I used to play with the new one in 2011 I think, good to know that it was the safe one I was using

I had the original 60's one. I wonder if I just don't remember any burns but I grew up to have an incredible fear of real creepy crawlers.

The Cabbage Patch chewing nightmare and the Sky Dancers. I think I remember stupidly having one of those things too before hearing about its nonstop chewing action.

When I was a kid in the 60s-70s, we had the Creepy Crawler kit, as well as the Incredible Edibles kit. We were always very careful, none of us got burned or anything. I had a pair of the old Moon Shoes, and I always stayed near something I could grab onto in case I fell or almost did. I don't recall getting hurt on the Moon Shoes, but I did fall and sprain my arm while roller skating in the garage with my older and one younger sibling.

I remember playing with Aqua Dots as part of an arts and crafts project in Kindergarten. I made a flower, but then my older sister broke it :(

My sister and I both got skydancers one year for christmas. We shot those dolls at each other as fast as we could. It's amazing we never got hurt. Though her launcher's pull string did snap at one point so we had to share mine which wasn't as fun in our "war".

Man, I remember Moon Shoes. Loved those things, but I haven’t the faintest clue how I didn’t fall or break my ankles. Even more so considering me and my brother used them with Hulk fists, so we essentially were fighting on bouncing stilts.
