I'm gonna be honest, when I clicked this video, I wasn't expecting to hear that one of the biggest smartphone failures was that a phone actually exploded when you charged it. Like I'm pretty sure someone had to test it and they just decided to release it anyways.

My Samsung phone exploded when I was 10 (like in March 2019). Not because of the battery, it was a quite resilient phone I've had for a few years, but because I decided to put it in the microwave to get footage of ice melting. As you can tell, I was a silly goose.

I’ve been watching Strider since 2015 too and I it all started with the Top 10 best Simpsons episodes list. Good times. Loving that his channel has evolved and has gotten a bigger variety from cartoon videos to random fast food facts. Too bad he banned me from his discord server because I was talking about rock music. He went from cartoon videos to the video you’re watching now. I’m not complaining, I love the new direction. But from a super positive guy I find it quite hypocritical to ban someone for talking about rock music and not cartoons only when he changed his style.

Fun Fact: The Note 7's tendency to explode was caused not only by the battery being a tight fit, but also a high mAh rating. Repairers such as Hugh Jefferys preserve these phones by replacing these dangerous batteries with a fan knockoff battery that is smaller and has a lower mAh rating, making it much safer. However, the phone must still be protected from software updates that essentially brick the phone, given that these updates don't take the possibility of the safer battery replacements into consideration.

I actually had one of Microsoft’s phones (I think it was the one shown in your video, but IDK), and had enjoyed how big it was, the only reason I didn’t stick with it (8( I remembered correctly) is because the interface of the phone being clunky, and I ran into a lot of non size related issues due to that.

The LG G3 was actually my second phone. After the Droid Razr M and before I got my Samsung Galaxy S7. Unfortunately I didn't go through the full plan with my phone as one January, the screen decided to fade and flicker making it unusable, while we tried to get it repaired, it became a lost cause. On the bright side I did get a new phone before the plan was paid off so that was sweet.

Omg same happened with the LG Cookie I used to own as a child. When my mom gave me her old one, it wouldn't let me transfer content, no matter how hard I tried, so we had to get a new one. I liked it, because it had the best music, those cute avatars that would appear on the display if someone called you, and the game apps, like the one with the candles and a musical monster game Idk the name of the game, but I'll remember it when I see it, bc it had a specific concept to it-music and bubble tapping. (Update: It's called "Music World" and people are still nostalgic for it nowadays.) However, I had to exchange it for a Samsung two years later after my screen got shambled due to the hard drive being picked apart by a pen. (That's a long story I'd rather not talk about.) It took forever to get fixed and it had purple pixels after it got shambled, looking like a crocodile was on the screen. So, after that, it was when I had to get a new phone, albeit reluctantly, since 11 y/o me thought the apps looked like they were shredded by scissors XD and there were no figurines to play with on it. But nowadays, I love the Android phones and wouldn't exchange the one I own for anything. This was my experience with my first LG Smartphone. Sorry for the long paragraph btw.

Great video Strider. Smartphones have come a long way and we have seen some amazing innovations over the years. In terms of smartphone failures. The Galaxy Note7 and Galaxy Fold stood out the most. The Galaxy Note7 situation was sad because I believe it would have been the best smartphone of 2016. It was the first Android phone that I considered switching to from my iPhone, but I decided to stick with my iPhone for a couple more years. The Galaxy Fold is one of Samsung's most important smartphones. In 2019, my thoughts were that the Galaxy Fold had a great concept, but poor execution. The durability issues was the reason why the phone failed. However, the Galaxy Z Fold series has gotten so good now that it is worth considering. I am currently using a Galaxy Z Fold4 and the big inner display is a benefit to me since I am visually impaired. I also use an iPhone and a Pixel as secondary devices and while those phones are great, they cannot match the screen size of the Z Fold.

That simultaneously was surprising and not surprising to hear LG left the smart phone market. The last 2 android phones I had were LG's and they were both so bad I switched to Apple. Both phones just stopped working for no reason. I didnt drop either or shatter either. The 1st one just couldnt boot anymore and the 2nd one the battery went out and this was right when they transitioned into not letting you take the back of the phone off so I got the battery replaced and then it failed in the same way the first LG did.

I miss lg phones, the simple ones were perfect for my mom since shes not big with phones and really only needed one to call and text people. The flips were great for my grandmother, too, but now her only real option is a jitterbug, which is veeery buggy and needs its own plan. If they just kept making simple ones, they might've stuck around longer.

I’m pretty sure my grandmother had an LG flip phone back in the 2000s! It was hot pink. I remember I was so confused with how to use it ‘cause my parents have always used iPhones. I always wanted to play some kind of mobile game, lol.

This seems perfectly timed to me im shopping or a new smart phone but half of them seem like a failure or compromise since not that many good ones carry a headphone jack or sd card anymore.

Hi, I was a little surprised you didn't include the Motorola Atrix 4g with Lapdock/laptop. It was a phone that would plug into a thin laptop thing. The phone could charge, while you used the large screen. I really appreciate and enjoy you on KZread! Thanks!

Kind of a shame the Energizer phone never hit the markets; it was sort of a half joke/half answer to phones getting thinner and having seemingly less battery life each time. I certainly wouldn't mind a thicker phone that had a bigger battery, better processor, more storage, etc. But this is one Energizer product the bunny tripped over. (And yes, I know Duracell has a bunny mascot outside the US and was the original.) I have only one other question this video brought to my mind: what _is_ the secret of Monkey Island™?

I didn't realize the Kin only sold for that short of a time. I had a Kin Two M as my phone during college. It was VERY lack luster and very feature-lite. I still have it AND the tube it came in. Just gotta find my battery and see if it still boots up!

The Verizon LG G3 should've been a dishonorable mention. I had three, first one after a while the screen would freeze and fade to black seemingly at random. I could jerry rig it to work properly, for about 2 weeks, then same problem. Got another one, exact same thing happened. Got a third, and it started automatically deleting photos off my SD card. That was the final straw and moved onto a Galaxy S20 and had no issues since! For anyone wondering, I kept getting one because it was the cheapest 4K camera phone I could find.
