As much as I want y’all to hear CCR’s original version of “Proud Mary,” the CCR song I really want y’all to react to next is “Suzie Q.” It’s a bluesy remake of the 1957 song “Susie-Q” by Dale Hawkins. Picking up CCR's "Chronicle Volume 1" is an excellent choice for any beginning listener to CCR or classic rock music from the 60's and 70's in general. You got 20 straight-up bangers one after another. I think of all the greatest hits albums that are out there, it's one of the most essential and one of the best bangs for the buck. However... It doesn't have either Born on the Bayou or Ramble Tamble on it. Those are, to my ears, CCR's 2 best songs. There are several other classics, you'd be missing, as well. Songs like "Cotton Fields," "It Came Out of the Sky," "Wrote A Song For Everyone" and "Effigy." So, while in the short term, "Chronicle Volume 1" is essential, if you're in it for the long haul, you've got to pick up at least 4 albums in "Bayou Country," "Green River," "Willy And The Poor Boys" and "Cosmo's Factory." As consistent as "Chronicle Volume 1" is, so are these 4 albums. 14 of the 20 songs on "Chronicle Volume 1" come from those 4 albums, including 7 from Cosmo's Factory alone.

Good ol' American rock n' roll. Always got that rock n' R&B groove. Massive hooks. When John Fogerty recorded Centerfield, his old record co. sued him for sounding too much like himself! (Fortunately, Fogarty won the case) John Fogarty, wrote, produced, played guitar, and sang all the CCR songs. You should do Centerfield - 1985.

My favorite greatest hits album when I was a teenagers in the early seventies was by Three Dog Night and The Guess Who. Also enjoyed the hell out of those by The Grass Roots, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap and The Association, but these last three aren't quite up there with the first two and CCR.

"You can ponder perpetual motion" has always been one of my favourite lyric lines of all time. There's an incredible live version of this on youtube. Up Around the Bend ~ Live in Amsterdam (1971). It just rocks out. The bass is heavier, the guitar raunchier, the solo more powerful. Look for it, you won't be disappointed.

This is what some call a Workmans Band. Very tight, clean and crisp. No need for filler or gimmicks. I was in second grade, 72', when I first heard this on our car radio. Our parents let us listen to all kinds of music and CCR found thier way into my sister's third grade classroom show and tell. The teacher was a hippie and allowed my sister to play not one, but two songs from the record album. To this day, Up Around The Bend reminds me of driving around on a hot, Summer day.
