Yeah, they often contained social commentary, but I’ve heard him discount that in interviews later on. I think maybe he didn’t want part of his audience to turn on him. I Saw It On TV, from his Centerfield album is a master, and there’s no denying what that one’s about.

One of the things that made CCR such a timeless band, is they were as "in tune" with the American ethos of the '70's as any band could be. So many of their songs are identified with the Vietnam War; but they also sang about growing up in America, & the whole "peace & love" movement typified by (dare I say) "hippies", "flower children", what have you. In other words, they were a voice for the people of their generation. Thank you, sir, for reacting to them, & HEARING what they were saying.

Just a bit of backstory about "CCR" is that they are a very "Southern" band with very liberal views. Most people think they originated in the South, but they actually are from Berkeley CA. The style of music can be a tad leading, or misleading if you don't actually listen. "Green River", and "Fortunate Son" I think are the best examples. "Fortunate Son" has been used probably as much as "Born in the U.S.A." by Bruce Springsteen, in a misguided and, frankly, asinine way to promote ideologies that are not what these songs are even about. It is actually quite the opposite. The lyrical content of these bands is clear if you actually listen. Sorry if I rambled.

As a kid in junior high, I got a stereo record player for Christmas. The single for "Up Around The Bend" was current at the time, and on the strength of that song, the first album I bought was "Cosmos Factory". From there, CCR became the first band I actually collected, and I had around 5-6 of their albums before I had more than two by anyone else. Finally got to see John (at least) in 2016, in Vegas.

Love CCR and this is my favorite CCR number. A great intro guitar hook, and one of the best lyric lines ever written. "Hitch a ride to the end of the highway, where the neon turns to wood." If I recall their video correctly, it depicted the song literally, which is how I took the song. Young people in a small town heading out to hang out place in a clearing that everyone knows for a good time. “Bring a song and a smile For the banjo”.

A Fogerty song that doesn't get much play that I really like is 110 in the Shade. He sings it with the Fairfield Four. Keep that music alive brother.

I was in high school when they’re first album came out. So many memories of this awesome music. I hope this incredible music never dies and it’s kept alive for next generations to enjoy. Thanks for keeping it going, Jamel. ❤️ the first album was one my parents would actually play too ! My Mom loved it.

I know a Vietnam Vet who comes by my business at least once a week. He usually rides his Harley Trike, and ONLY plays CCR at full blast. Great music that still holds up. As always, brother, I hope you and yours are doing fine.
