@@SquidJoe was literally looking up info on this today.. apparantly the ceo said there was problems with porting it ;/ but that they would be working on finishing/releasing their latest game and then maybe work on looking into a re-release!!

@@omensoffate yeah at the start I was like, what's with this Vanillaware kind of artstyle, but the food was the hard confirm for me and many others it seems, since they always use hand drawn delicious looking food. That was the hard confirm for me personally is what I meant

Vanillaware has nothing but bangers. 13 Sentinels, Dragon's Crown, Muramasa, Odin's Sphere, god dang they're truly elite.

I'm not even a fan of strategy games, but a game like this with beautiful visuals, gorgeous music, and developed by Vanillaware? Definitely one of the games I'm most excited for.

@@humidificateurhydraulique3321 They've made several excellent games. They're probably most known for Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Dragon's Crown, but they also made Odin Sphere, Grim Grimoire, and some others.

@@carrionflowers6764 it might take a bit of it, but I definitely feel like the game is signaling ogre battle more than anything. The little checkered unit formation displays, the aggro visual representations, the way the town shoots fire works at the end of the mission. Heck even more out there stuff like the Lord protagonist having blue hair like Magnus and that they mention *something* named Zenobia. It's gonna be it's own thing obviously, there doesn't seem to be any traces of alignment for example, but it's definitely wearing it's inspiration on its sleeve. Or maybe it's just my immense love for Quest's games talking idk, but I am happy, this is a happy day.

I was SOLD as soon as I saw Atlus + Vanillaware. AND it seems to be a little like Fire Emblem too?? Absolute "Must Buy" for me, can't wait

13 Sentinels was something i picked up only from hearing vague things, it was INCREDIBLE so stoked to check out antoher vanillaware game in a genre i very much enjoy

We still need Odin Sphere, Muramasa, and Dragons Crown on Switch. VanillaWare games are always day one purchases for me.

I can see the spiritual connection to Ogre Battle now so easily and it warms my heart to see someone take a shot at something like that again. I’ve played a lot of games but Person of Lordly Caliber for the N64 is still my favorite RPG of all time no question. Can’t wait to try this on release.

Battle system in 13 sentinels was fun, but this seems like a huge step up in immersion and complexity! Can't wait to get my hands on it

In the design i liked the "news signal-weather report" feel to it but in the end it wasnt much and felt like a filler for the story@@Zeik56

I honestly thought I was the only person who had this dream (or even remembered Ogre Battle 64, lol). I am SO EXCITED for this game, ridiculous name and all.

I downloaded the demo yesterday and I'm hooked! 😂😂😂

After absolutely loving both 13 Sentinels and Triangle Strategy, I'm extremely hyped for this.

So grateful to see another VanillaWare title. Can only hope more of their stuff finally reaches a bigger audience soon. 🙏

While I'm getting this game no questions asked (Vanillaware = TAKE MY MONEY NOW), I still hold-out hope for an HD English release of *Princess Crown* someday...

Just this week I discovered Vanillaware with 13 sentinels and I can already tell this developer is going to be one of my favorites. I'll buy instantly on that alone.

I'm sold. This might be my personal favorite of the Direct. Between Odin Sphere, Dragon's Crown and 13 Sentinels, Vanillaware has more than earned my trust. The art on this one is absolutely gorgeous.

I'm so in for this game! I love most Vanillaware games and strategy-rpgs is my favorite genre, so this is a perfect combination. Very much looking forward to it!

I've never heard of this Vanillaware that everybody else in the comments is going nuts over, but it's good to hear that there's more reason to have faith in this game than being blindly excited for a game that's so reminiscent of Ogre Battle after so many years of that franchise stagnating.

Best reveal of the direct, imo. Love Vanillaware games and their art style, and it's a tactical rpg. Take my money.

I used to love Atlus and vanillaware games as a kid! This is nice!

Honestly, this was the highlight of the Direct for me, and while that isn't a high bar (considering how cluttered with unimpressive remakes of already-good games it was), it's still the best announcement. Vanillaware hasn't disappointed me so far, and given how phenomenal 13 Sentinels was, I'm all for a medieval strategy game from those same people.

I started watching the trailer without knowing anything and I said: what a beautiful artistic section, it's what many games lack, for that reason alone it's worth taking a look, and at the end I read: Atlus-Vanillaware... that explains it all

I played 13 sentinels recently and was blown away. I didn't believe visual novels could be so good. I'm excited to see vanillaware show what strategy rpg can really be.

@@Dracobyte I just recently played Tactics Ogre Reborn and I liked it, but this is the exact thing I kept thinking to myself. So glad we now at least have something coming out that finally captures that same gameplay style of OB64.

This looks incredible! Vanillaware is a gem within the gaming industry.

Tried the demo and wasn't impressed, but I fiddled with it for a bit... ...couple hours later it's the first game I have preordered in 13 years. >__> Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen with more RPG mechanics, a traversible overworld, and various mechanics that tie into the gameplay and story. I love it and have been waiting for a game like this for a long time. Now we just need a modern Sid Meyers Pirates. My only gripe is that I wish there were a bit more cosmetic variation between the generic characters and the named/story ones. Sure they have unique heads/portraits, but most share the same generic body and outfit. Alternate outfits would have been great. Still, good when my only complaints are minor cosmetic ones.

I just really hope this runs well on Switch. The fact it's coming to PS5 worries me, but then the 13 Sentinels switch port was really good, so there's hope.

So, for anyone not old enough to remember, or just isn't in the know, this is basically the spiritual successor of 1993's Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen for SNES. There is a few games in the Ogre series, like Ogre Tactics being the most famous (I think), and such, but none of the later games were like the first game, which was a fantasy war simulation game with squads moving in real time, and then would go into something of an auto battler, where units would attack other units based on the priority you set (like strongest enemy unit, or which unit is the leader of the squad, weakest, etc.), and there was a really neat tarot card system that could be used in and out of battle for effects. One thing I hope this game has that I haven't seen yet from the original game, is neutral units that can be encountered and recruited, Ogre Battle had werewolves, dragons, various undead, demons, wyrms, pumpkin mages, scyllas, krakens, fairies, angels, all sorts of units you could find.

It's hard to tell exactly how the gameplay itself works in this, but that Vanillaware style is SO dang good. Their take on fantasy in Dragon's Crown was rad so I have no doubt this is going to be great

Looks like it takes heavy inspiration from the Ogre Battle games. There's games on the SNES and N64, so I recommend you check them out.
