I thought something was off especially cause of all the NPCs talking so I thought it was a directional choice. Knowing he hung up the cap makes me sad and for 3 decades of my life his voice was the only once I could associate with Mario. Definitely she'd a tear.

Honestly it’s like Nintendo was fully aware that fans wanted another 2d Mario game with also having original ideas for it and decided to keep it as a special surprise until now it’s finally here. And the fact that they were saving Daisy as a secret on being a playable character is truly a awesome Nintendo move.

There's no way Charles didn't do the voice of a 30 year character where he speaks variations on essentially wahoo and they not use some kind of audio splicing with his and the new VA or an effect or something. The voice of Mario isn't "Mario" it's Martinet and it'll likely be that way forever.

always thought that nsmb wii, nsmb 2 and nsmbU were more Version of nsmb for the ds. And even the artstyle of the ds game looked dull to be honest, it had not the charm of mario bros 3 or world. but this one looks amazing, cant wait.

whoever's the new voice has so far done such a great job that me and 90% of the internet had no idea that this wasn't Charles. Hope we get to meet this mystery voice at the next direct!

After knowing that someone else is playing Mario. I gotta hand it to the new actor. They did a pretty good impression of Martinet.

Respects to Charles Martinet. He played a huge part of my childhood. This marks the first Mario without him.

The fact that they "felt different but the same" means that Nintendo still wants to keep Mario's voice as Charles always acted it, and that's a wonderful thing! Basically, Mario's voice is not intending to change from Nintendo, they want to preserve it but with a different actor. That's magic and perfect for us, the fans.

It's not often that characters are actually given voiced dialogue in Mario. So the talking flowers and playing as Daisy in this mainline game are two rare things I'm looking forward to

I think this is a pretty healthy direction for the 2D games to go in. Experimenting with new elements while keeping what made the old formula work. Excited to see a platformer that isn't a "new" or "deluxe plus" or whatever.

Want to add that I'm proud at how well everyone seems to be handling the change. Haven't seen much vitriol for the new voice which is already pretty good as far as classic character recasts go. I came back to see the difference in this Mario and Charles Martinet since its been confirmed he is stepping down and he didn't voice Mario in this game. Its similar but Mario does sound younger with a slight lower voice, but still relatively high. They did a good recast. Charles is 67 so nothing wrong with retiring.

This actually looks amazing. Such a refreshing take on 2D Mario since every NSMB game was basically the same

Mario's new VA is really good. He's basically indistinguishable from Martinet at certain points in this trailer.

Love how in spite of Mario being around for 40 years, every new entry always surprises you in the best way possible with mechanics and concepts that have never been seen before.

Mario is so expressive in this. He runs with his arms behind him, he does a trick after jumping on enemies, he grabs his hat when it falls off from the pipe and looks around before exiting.

That was an excellent way to introduce us to the new voice actor. I would have never known it wasn’t Charles martinet and they dropped this trailer so long before the announcement of his retirement. I feel if we had already known it wasn’t him we would have focused more on listening to the voice and not on the game itself. Going back and listening low shows I would have never known had I not been told

No modern 2D mario game has ever made me feel so nostalgic. This game has the essence and magic of all those old mario games....

The NSMB series is some of the best 2d platformers ever. This however looks to be something entirely different. Less conventional. I like how nintendo is modifying the constraints usually placed on the player. Like with TOTK they are really changing how the games are played.

Seems like a lot of us are coming back to this trailer after it was announced Charles Martinet wouldn't be voicing Mario and the gang anymore.

What a testament to how fantastic the Super Mario series has been. Even after all this time, the same basic gameplay can still be added onto, can still be played around with and inspire creativity in designers and it still looks super-fun to play. And having Peach and Daisy playable only sweetens the deal.

I like what I'm seeing in the comments. There's definitely a slight difference in Mario's voice here compared to previous games, but the fact that some of us still thought it was Charles Martinet shows how good his successor is doing. Thank you Charles for giving us 30 years of joy as these iconic characters, and best wishes to the new VA!

An important thing that no one mentioned is that they removed the time clock. So the levels could be as long as they want them and giving players the option to spend and explore the environment as much as they like to. Great little detail that could change a lot!

I haven't played all the Mario games, but recently I've been playing 3d world and I have rarely felt rushed by the time clock, except when I first started playing the game because I wasn't keeping track of it, but generally they give you more then enough time

That’s only if you’re counting the switch version the same thing as the Wii U one and technically that’s true since it’s a port …but it did add extra content so I would say it’s more like 7 or 8

I just love how Nintendo can keep things under wraps for so long and then reveal it a few months before release.

@@user-vs9ds3dc2yA “fever dream” still takes a lot more creativity and effort than a lot of Nintendo’s recent endeavors with this series. The fact that we have seen several new characters here like the hippos, flying blowfish, and those new underwater pipe enemies is already an indicator that this is a huge step up from modern Paper Mario’s handling of original characters.

The fact that I was able to fully convince myself that this was Charles voicing Mario and Luigi just proves we’re in very good hands with whoever is voicing the brothers. Charles will be missed but I think the future is looking pretty bright.

I’m so sad to hear Charles Martinet has retired but I have high hopes for the new voice actors.

Coming back after hearing Charles Martinet retiring from the Mario role. Everyone speculating that this wasn’t Charles Martinet may have definitely been right as he definitely sounds different. Thanks for all the memories Charles!

I don't know what exactly the devs were on when making this game, but more devs should be using it cuz this is the most refreshing take on Mario platforming I think anybody could ever have come up with. This legitamently looks like a kid-friendly fever dream & I'm 100% buying this game

Ngl I unironically cried. But it's not because it's more 2D Mario, but because it precisely isn't New super mario. I really didn't like New Super Mario Bros, this game clearly understands that there was need for innovation and a breaking of previous boundaries, and thus it manages to (so far) capture the charm of what 2D Mario games used to feel like back in the day

Charles Martinet is retiring 😢 We will always remember the memories he brought to our lives and and everything he did to inspire us. I do hope the new voice of Mario will hold up just as well as it did all these years.

I’m really excited for this new voice actor, he seems he will take a new spin on mario’s character in a really positive way. Charles Martinet will always be the OG but this new Mario seems like he will absolutely nail it.
