I know your gratitude, but as a fan I don't feel Nintendo did enough for fans. Aside from Sakurai willing to talk for Mii costume, I don't see other Mario directors try to bring back Mallow and Geno as playable characters in any other game, so that's still quite unpleasant. At this point their future still need to be in concern. They need more good news.

This game is a shining gem in my childhood memories, man.. I randomly found it at a rental shop back then and fell in love. It was my first introduction to rpgs and I was terrible at the game for a long time and I adored every minute of it. My only internet access at the time was at my school's library, so I'd spend my breaks browsing early fansites and printing out stock artwork of the characters. I even had Bowser's castle w/ Exor painted on my bedroom wall at some point.

Haha that’s a same memory I have too! I am 33 now, I might have been 6 or 7 when I rented this, I had no idea how to play but I remember loading a file from someone else who rented it and they were at boosters tower and I just wandered around while I was drinking a doctor pepper 😂. Then I played Pokémon and ff3 for NES and learned how to play rpgs so I got the game and played it properly, I always love it. Whenever I replay it I always crack a Dr Pepper when I get to boosters tower 😂 I’ll be sure to do that with this remake!

Me too Makes you wonder if they would keep the same sprite as in the OG game, make him into a 3D model, or (what I'm hoping for) they make him into the same 3D pixel style that the first game used for all of the characters; that way he's still retro, but he managed to "upgrade" himself from his last appearance XD

I love how the way the characters are short is imitating how they looked in the SNES, the music remixes are insanely good, everything looks like a 1 to 1 recreation but even better, can't wait to see the cutscenes, which seem to be for the dialogue scenes like Bowser breaking into Booster's Castle or Geno coming to life and also looks like it's for the special attacks like Mallow's Thunderbolt, which is even cooler.

Imagine how many people were SHOCKED when FINALLY Nintendo and Square put their differences aside to make this game.

They actually did it. A full throwback to Super Mario RPG for the SNES. This is an incredible masterpiece and I can't wait to see how it will turn out.

God, I so badly want this game to succeed, more people need to experience this absolute gem and the graphic and sound upgrades make this the perfect opportunity. And if this does well, who knows, something might even come of it.

I played through this for the first time about a year ago and its in my top 3 Mario games for sure!

This was the first RPG I ever played. Ended up loving the heck out of it and was the driving force to other great RPS. Including Final Fantasy 7 through 10, Parasite Eve, Chrono Cross and Trigger, Tales of Destiny, Xenogears, Golden Sun, Mega Man Legends 1 & 2, Fantasy Star Online, Sonic Adventure, and Diablo 2- just to name a few 😁 RPGs are was a major catalyst in my interest in reading. I have so many great memories playing this game. It's truly a gem. Many blessings to all those who were involved in getting this masterpiece created and recreated 🙏🏾

It's a Square Enix game after all! They definitely know how to write good boss fight music.

I love how close it is to the old pre-rendered graphics, the models are just remade to modern standards and rendered in real-time but they still have their squat, toy-like proportions. It does look like they changed the combat a little bit, hopefully not too much (a classic mode would be nice). I'm just glad a new generation will be able to experience this game, it was my first RPG and it's this version of the characters that I'll always think of as their true personalities.

@@Nouxatar why wouldn't they? She's still composing music, she composed music for the entire Mario&Luigi series, including remixing her own songs in the two remake games; she worked on Origami King and Sparks of Hope. Having her return was the obvious choice.

After 27 years since the original SNES game released, it's finally here! I'm so glad Geno and Mallow are back again after so long! I miss them both! They really look awesome in 3D in this remake!

27 years later and I still remember all the music, characters, locations, combat, everything in the trailer. This game was one of the few I remember playing constantly as a kid. I cannot wait to relive this experience again.

I actually am a fan of orchestrated music since playing the Dragon quest series. Square Enix is not like Microsoft or EA . They won't let us down.

Super Mario RPG played such an integral part in my childhood. It's so nice to see Nintendo doing a remake for this gem. 🖤

I thought I was the only person who got emotional when this was announced, bur apparently I am not alone. Videogames were the only escape of the crude realities some of us lived, and this was the first “role” playing game most of us played in that generation. No wizards or dragons. Your enemies in fact are now your friends and you need to team up with the guardian of stars to restore broken dreams and the ability to make them come true. And the game itself is a pipe dream. Music, enemies, boses, locales… all crazy hallucinations of the Mushrom Kindgom. The fully orchestrated music is simply amazing. I am grateful I will experience this remake, and that other generations have an opportunity to experience one of the best games ever made.

For all of us 90s kids who grew up with this game, never thought the day would come.

I saw this and said to myself "Oh, theyre bringing Mario RPG to SNES Online." Then it hit me as soon as I saw the twinkling star. I immediately erupted into tears. This was my first RPG. I've played this game so much that I've replaced the save state battery on my cartridge going on four times now. I can't believe I live in a universe that gets this remake. I hope it's longer and even better than the original. Thank you Nintendo and Square Enix! This is how I was hoping a remake would look if it ever happened. You've made a little kid from the past very happy today.

Someone needs to remaster that Newgrounds "rawest forest" music video.

Definitely deserving of an upgrade! The music is still smoke! Always loved the battle theme when it was time. The transition was perfect. And they really did a good enhancement to Yoko Shimomura's score. I may have to consider this now.

Not knowing much about this game, I played the original SNES version for the first time after seeing this, and it has now become one of the best RPG's I have played! I am looking forward to seeing this glorious game remastered on the Switch later this year!

As a huge Mario fan, I WAS SCREAMING when this was presented. Never thought the day would come.

These graphics are new but they have the totally intentional retro vibe from the original. I like it, and I also understand that not everyone is used to how they look here but I'm sure it will grow on people.

Hearing "Fight Against a Somewhat Stronger Monster" remastered like this was honestly the most hype-inducing thing I've ever heard in my life and I was already convinced on the game anyway. It's so hard to find jazz-ish boss theme tracks like these seriously but the added higher violins make it soooooo much more tense and the theme has a dozen hundred times more personality now. It's soooooo good.

I love that they kept the little "mario explains stuff" animatics 😁. I really hope this does well and they make a sequel!

These similarities include: Paper Mario was originally going to be called Super Mario RPG 2, but was later renamed "Super Mario Adventure" (while still in development) due to legal reasons. Eventually, it received its finalized international title to emphasize the unique graphical style of the game. As with Super Mario RPG, Bowser is the very first boss to be fought in the game. After the cutscene that takes place when Mario is defeated by Bowser, the Paper Mario logo is displayed similarly to how the Super Mario RPG logo (sans subtitle) is displayed after Exor crashes into Bowser's Keep and destroys the Star Road. Revised versions of Star Hill and the Chancellor from Super Mario RPG reappear, although this is lost in translation in the international versions, with the former being renamed Shooting Star Summit and the latter the Toad Minister. The Shy Guy riot in Toad Town is similar to Mack and the Shysters' takeover of the Mushroom Kingdom in Super Mario RPG. Both Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG contain karate dojos. The Master is Paper Mario's equivalent of Jinx, as they are both powerful senseis that are fought three times (with each battle getting harder), and are completely optional. The Master also shares the role of an optional boss harder than the final, main boss, like Culex. Both games have plots that involve finding seven stars and have something to do with wishes not being granted due to what the games' main antagonists have done. The opening storylines of both games begin with the usual "Mario battling Bowser to save Peach" scenario when Mario suddenly becomes overpowered and sent hurtling a great distance away. In Super Mario RPG, as Mario goes to free Peach after defeating Bowser, Smithy's gang sends Exor crashing into the castle, the impact sending Mario flying, landing back at his house. In Paper Mario, as Mario is fighting Bowser, Bowser makes himself invincible with the Star Rod, then dispatches Mario out a window, and he crash lands in a field just outside Goomba Village. In both games, Bowser's castle is unreachable throughout most of the story. In Super Mario RPG, it cannot be reached because the bridge is down; in Paper Mario, the castle is up in the sky. Also, both games feature a special vehicle that is used to reach the castle (the Royal Bus and Star Ship, respectively). Mario uses jump and hammer attacks, which in both games have regular, super, and ultra variations. Both have the three hammer variants, but the jump variants in Super Mario RPG are special moves Mario learns, whereas Paper Mario has these variants as the boots Mario finds to improve his jumping ability. The Power Bounce Badge is reminiscent of Mario's Super Jump ability in Super Mario RPG. Mario's first party member in both games has a special move that identifies the enemy (Mallow's "Psychopath" and Goombario's "Tattle"). Both games feature a special area where Mario can turn into 8-bit Mario, complete with 8-bit sounds and music. In both games, Mario can travel to an island where Yoshis live. During the second boss battle with Bowser, he can temporarily disable some of Mario's commands, similar to how Bowyer disables certain button commands during his battle in Super Mario RPG. When Lava Piranha re-emerges from the lava after the first phase of the battle, it resembles Czar Dragon's resurrection as Zombone. Both games feature a volcano as a location where a star is hidden. Both areas have an escape sequence after locating the Star, though the reason behind it is different (in Super Mario RPG, the Axem Rangers are escaping with the Star; in Paper Mario, the volcano is erupting). The endings in both games feature a parade that is led by Luigi and ends with a fireworks display. Both Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario feature a Hammer Bro who hosts a quiz game. During the parade in the ending of Paper Mario, Twink flies by with Mario and Peach waving at him on a starlit float, as Geno does in Super Mario RPG. Both games feature antagonist groups that are based on characters from TV series (the Koopa Bros. are based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, while the Axem Rangers are based on Super Sentai). In both games, the battle for the sixth star takes place in the sky (the Axem Rangers battle and the Huff N. Puff battle). Both games have a party member who fights against Mario first before joining him (Bowser and Lakilester). Both Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario have three-headed Piranha Plant bosses (Smilax and Lava Piranha). The battle systems of both games contain a feature where correctly timed player input makes the protagonists perform better overall. Super Mario RPG has "timed hits", while Paper Mario has "action commands". Both games feature a sidequest involving helping an artist (Toadofsky in Super Mario RPG and the Master Poet in Paper Mario) complete a piece of music, though the specifics of how they're resolved is different.

I'm right there with you. At first I thought it was an announcement for them putting the original on the SNES app, but when I saw the graphics change, my eyes flooded immediately. It was one of those things that just happened without warning, and I'm still trying not to choke up talking to my friends about it.

This game is a great introduction to RPGs. It's charming and approachable, and especially for Mario fans, it has such a unique take on the world. One of my childhood favorites

It did introduce me to RPGs as a kid. Its easy compared to others and Peach (Toadstool) breaks the game especially with Lazy Shell armor. Wonder if balancing will be done in this game to counter that.

@@xxProjectJxx Its still one of my favorite RPGs, not just from my childhood (though I am also one of the people who learned how to play RPGs properly with this game as a kid, but it wasn't my first RPG). I think it actually isn't all that easy later on in the game. But whatever it lacks in challenge, it makes up in fun. Its low stress and no grind, it just feels balanced. Aside from that, the story, characters, music, and world is just a joy to experience. One of my favorite RPGs, favorite Mario games, and favorite games period.

Beyond that, Granblue Fantasy Relink, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, FF IX remake and FFT remaster are also on the way within the next 2 or 3 years (not to mention eventually, Dragon Quest XII). We sure are eating well! Oh and Final Fantasy XVI releases tomorrow.

@@AsAventurasdeGui I believe that it all depends on how far Nintendo want to push, tho. Square and Nintendo did some collab games, yet, just they never mentioned Mallow and Geno in those. Square somehow also didn't let Mallow and Geno star in their own projects like Chocobo GP.

Iconic! I was 9 years old when this game initially came out for the SNES. I will be turning 36 years old the week this game comes out and it will be the perfect birthday present to myself!

If this is anything like the Mario and Luigi games, I know I'm gonna love it.

With the new battle changes they seem to be doing with the timed hits meter and splash damage on hits, it would be cool if they implemented an “SNES” mode where the battle mechanics were reverted to how the original’s was, giving people who played on the SNES even more nostalgia and replay value.

One of my all-time favorites. It has so much heart, wonderful music, and a pretty great story. Glad a new generation of gamers will get to experience this.

@@Loner098 plot-wise maybe a little, but the writing is great. They used to do that thing where they tried to mimic accents through text (like in the thousand year door) and I used to love that lol the French toad composer who says "Moi" a lot haha I used to read it how it's spelled as a kid

Mario RPG came out when I was 11, And, it was the last video game I ever played with my mother, before she passed. I'm literally crying as I am seeing this.

I played this too much when I was a child. My hand twitched a bit when Peach slapped that pan as if I am trying to get the double whack. And I instantly remembered the scene where Bowser rams his back to the door. Nintendo really knows how to please its fans.

27 years I've waited in Azkaban! I remember the release of this game. I used to think it was boring as a kid and now it's one of my FAVORITE games of all time

This is just incredible. Not only a grand return to Super Mario RPG, one of the best SNES RPG titles, but with a crazy slew of upgrades to combat. I was kind of hoping they'd add a new character to the team since there were remnants of a potential sixth party member found in the SNES version's code. Still, it looks incredible and I'm definitely preordering.

Do yourself a favor. Download an emulator for your phone and play it. I promise it's the best. Nothing beats playing it on a super nintendo but we work with what we got. 🥹

But it IS on the Super NES Classic system they released, along with Super Mario World, Kirby's Superstar, Yoshi's Island, Kirby's Dream Course (kirby golf is a guilty pleasure of mine), Donkey Kong... so worth it.

This game pretty much defines my childhood and my first RPG. Thank you, Nintendo for bringing it to the Switch.

I've watched this trailer like 5 times since it first showed in the direct, and I still can't believe it. I can't emphasize enough how happy this makes me. Never has anything in a Nintendo direct moved me to tears; from any number of fighter reveals for Smash, to new Pokemon games, or other dramatic reveals. This is a game that changed my LIFE.
