Ukraine is ‘going to lose’ the war against Russia

Curtin University's Dean of Global Futures Joe Siracusa says Ukraine is “going to lose” the war against Russia.
Ukraine's President has welcomed the US House of Representatives, approving $95 billion dollars in foreign aid to his country.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy says it ‘keeps history on the right track’.
However, Russia's foreign ministry claims Washington's deeper and deeper immersion in the hybrid war against Russia will turn into a humiliating fiasco for the US, like Vietnam and Afghanistan.
Mr Siracusa told Sky News Australia that Ukraine was “never going to beat” Russia.

    also, Polish minister promised to help Ukraine to locate and forcefully return young, capable of fighting Ukrainian men who fled to Poland. Totally a sign of "winning country". Economy is ruined, infrastructure in key regions is doomed, a lot of people fled (most of the refuges are in Russia) and already settled - 2 years is not a little time to assimilate, especially in the countries with familiar culture, language or relatives. They are not planning to come back since most of them got jobs, housing, someone got married, some had kids already. For a success, every country needs: resources, population, military. Ukraine has lost a lot of people either as KIA, or as MIA or simply those who fled. It doesn't matter how much money will be pumped into the country - without human resources it is useless.

    The number 500,000 Ukrainian troops killed is incorrect. From the NYT. 500,000 is BOTH Ukrainian and Russian. “Russia’s military casualties, the officials said, are approaching 300,000. The number includes as many as 120,000 deaths and 170,000 to 180,000 injured troops. The Russian numbers dwarf the Ukrainian figures, which the officials put at close to 70,000 killed and 100,000 to 120,000 wounded.”

    The main thing is not that just 10 mil people left Ukraine but that were mostly young people. Ukraine is now a nation of seniors. And those men who stayed but didnt join the army in the first two years are already completely unmotivated, not willing to fight and mostly hidding from the police that snatches them from streets like animals to be sent to the frontlines after just a few weeks of basic training. Nobody can win a war with such troops no matter the amount of money poured into the equipment.

Somehow the western war planners forgot this. NATO have a pretty large problem with the unified response, which is telling. As for the NATO members will be ready for Russia, it is also questionable as Russia building its army much quicker than european countries despite there is a war going on and they are sanctioned hard. If the war will go on for another 3 years or so, Russia will have enough army to march through Europe if they want to. Ukraine is actually helping Russia to upkeep patriotism with their terrorist/guerilla attacks on russian territories. As for the logistics, they working on it as well, they are much better now than they was in 2022. So this war is hugely benefical for the russian military.

Ukraine is paying the real cost and we are reaping the benefits. We are cleaning old weapons out of the arsenal without paying to destroy them. We are rebuilding our stocks of new/next gen weapons. We are avoiding having to send our own troops into a NATO conflict. We are extending the power and reach of our alliances. We are getting rid of one of the two major countries all our military expenditures have been made to defend against. We are keeping roughly 85% of the money appropriated inside this country and boosting the economy, increasing the industrial base, all while enhancing the military. And so on. And so on.

Russia is destroying the Ukraine economy and land scape sending Ukraine economy in a crisis! You think celebrating a loan they were desperate to get is a winning formula fighting against a country line Russia?? You and many others line you are caught up in the delusional and anti Russian or campaign in the beginning that made u believe Russia was incapable, incompetent and had junk for weapons! What they showed u was a rusty military that has t seen this kind of fight since forever. But they shook it off , side step sanctions, ate the number 1 economy in Europe! They have around 1, 000 volunteers a month signing up to fight in Ukraine. They absorb 4 Ukrainian oblast and retain Crimea. Remind you 500k casualties on the Ukrainian side was way before this last aid. These losses happen when Ukraine was receiving a blank check, all kinds of nato supposedly game changing weapons , nato training, intelligence and logistics. tell us what wi this loan of 60 billion dollars now? Since you people hate Russia so much how about yon go to Ukraine and fight for Zalensky along side literally Nazi militias who technically are a huge part of why Zalensky is in this mess! USA state department utilizes the Nazi nationalist criminals and their haste for Russia. Now they just about wiped out as well! This things is over!

It may not be obvious, and Ukraine, due to low ammo, had the choice of high casualties or orderly slow withdrawal in some areas (and they chose the latter), but even so, they've made russia pay a huge cost in loss of life and materiel, and allowed russia to advance...some 20 miles or so?

  • @bingbong6127

    @bingbong6127

    @jiminverness holding positions with low ammunition requires extensive manpower... they are being outstripped, it's a simple fact, artillery cause 80-90% of the casulties in this war and Russia has from a 6-1 to 12-1 advantage depending on which part of the frontline you're talking about. Ukraine had a million soldiers pre 2022 full scale invasion, in this whole time these soldiers weren't allowed to be rotated out because no such system has been put in place because of fear of being overrun in certain areas, they have been conscripting for well over a year with most of their fontline soldiers being conscripts instead of proffesional military which shows a massive degeneration of their proffesional force and they are desperately in need of 500k new troops which is highly unlikely to happen as everyone that wanted to go already did. Their economy is in the gutter, their birth rate even before the war was abysmal, they have one of the lowest population of 20-29 year old in Europe and almost half of their citizens have fled to other countries.

It is a harsh thing for the economy when one is in a war for survival, with russia going after Ukraine's power plants and trying to stop Ukraine's grain exports (both by ship, which UA has finally figured how to bypass, and by stacking Polish farmers with russian stooges to protest and stop UA grain shipments into Poland, and destroy UA grain shipments passing _through_ Poland to Western Europe and beyond). _"their birth rate even before the war was abysmal, they have one of the lowest population of 20-29 year old in Europe and almost half of their citizens have fled to other countries"_ Their birth rate was "abysmal" you say. It was low indeed. *Even more abysmal than russia's.* Ukraine was having 1.16 births per woman in 2020, compared to russia's _magnificent_ 1.49 (and russia's stats are only as high as they are thanks to such more remote places as Tuva 2.97, Chechnya 2.57, Nenets Autonomous Okrug 2.26, and Altai Republic 2.09 managing a birthrate over 2.0.) Approximately 1.3 million children were born in Russia in 2022, marking a decrease relative to the previous year. That was the lowest figure recorded over the past decade. Even with the stolen Ukrainian children, how well does this make up the nearly half a million casualties from the last two and a bit years?

    @jiminverness by having a population 3 times the size of Ukraine, and a functional domestic base of production that isn't disrupted by missile strikes and blue collar workers being conscripted because they are lower class than your office workers who can afford to pay off military commissioners. If the war ended today, which it won't, Ukraine will never recover population wise, the vast majority of the people who left are women and young children, those are the building blocks of a society. They aren't gonna come back either, Ukraine was a s%ithole before the war and a bigger one now. GDP is a cope mechanism designed by Western countries that don't have domestic production of raw materials to make theme a superpower. Italy has a GDP bigger than Russia yet it can't even sustain its own infrastructure and are completely reliant from outside gas, oil, minerals to function. Not a single EU country would survive sanctions like Russia has for even a couple of months, you can't sanction a country that is completely self sustainable without outside support. That's what defirentieates a true superpower and a paper tiger like Europe.

They are having massive trouble getting Western components essential for their more advanced equipment, and with all their blue collar workers conscripted or hiding from conscription, there is almost no-one to maintain and repair domestic infrastructure - those caught in the huge recent floods are being more or less left to themselves. Breaking pipes aren't being repaired, roads aren't being repaired, pretty well nothing is being repaired. _"If the war ended today, which it won't, Ukraine will never recover population wise,"_ Oh, well, I think it depends on how the war ends. If russia is cowed and beaten, then investment will flood in to Ukraine, and the people will follow the money. If russia gets some kind of ceasefire or negotiated partial surrender of lands from Ukraine, no-one will invest in Ukraine for fear of russia attacking again once it's rebuilt its forces a bit. So any peace that is not a defeat for russia, is a defeat for Ukraine, and a broken country. _'the vast majority of the people who left are women and young children, those are the building blocks of a society. They aren't gonna come back either,"_ Depends entirely on the outcome of the war. Some won't. Some will have begun to build new lives outside Ukraine, but if Ukraine wins, many will return, and many non-Ukrainians will also immigrate for the good jobs rebuilding the country and working for the Industries investing in Ukraine. Ukraine is a potentially very rich country. It has major resources in the East (which russia wants), It has a perpetual world's breadbasket income due to so much extremely fertile land, and the R&D emerging from this war will have high tech innovations that many countries will want to buy. _"Ukraine was a s%ithole before the war and a bigger one now."_ Ukraine was slowly pulling itself out of the russophilic sh%thole it once was, and this war has of course made it a war zone, but the war has also greatly accelerated its efforts at cleansing its corruption down to Western levels, and modernizing its entirety, motivated as it is to join NATO and the EU, and get rid of the russian millstone around its neck for good. _"GDP is a cope mechanism designed by Western countries that don't have domestic production of raw materials to make theme a superpower. Italy has a GDP bigger than Russia yet it can't even sustain its own infrastructure and are completely reliant from outside gas, oil, minerals to function."_ You could argue much the same for Japan or South Korea, or Singapore. Thing is, Italy doesn't have to produce its own gas, oil, etc to function. It is in symbiosis with the rest of the EU, such that it gets what it needs via the EU, and it produces what it can that is useful to the EU. _"Not a single EU country would survive sanctions like Russia has for even a couple of months, you can't sanction a country that is completely self sustainable without outside support. That's what defirentieates a true superpower and a paper tiger like Europe."_ That's like saying not a single russian Oblast would survive sanctions like russia has for even a couple of months. The USA is completely self sustainable without outside support, and were to isolate, it's citizens' quality of life would not suffer much, unlike, say, russia's. The EU would never get such sanctions placed upon it - I mean, who would do it? The only country that mattered would be the US, and while threats like russia and China exist, that ain't ever gonna happen. Hopefully things won't reach a point where Europe has to show you how much of a paper tiger it isn't.

    Sorry snowflake. Let's wait for another 12 months and see the "progress" this money is going to make on the frontlines for the Ukrainians.
