• Will Smith Spoils Dune...
Viewer Question:
Nicholas Falls - Congratulations to Will Smith. Not on your Best Actor win. But on upstaging everyone else, and making damn sure that YOU are the only winner anyone remembers. Nobody will remember CODA, Jessica Chastain, or Dune's dominance. No, they'll all remember a petulant movie star who exposed himself to be a selfish narcissist. It's all about you, Will. Good Job!

    John Wayne had to be physically restrained by security guards because he wanted to beat up a native American actress who dared to suggest that her people should be respected. The same actress was then publicly mocked by Clint Eastwood but yeah, this is the ugliest Oscar moment.... You sir, need to get a fricking grip.

And as me as a black man being around 100s of black woman who have very varying degrees with feelings about their hair she might be struggling with it mightily. That may be true currently but she has always been an actress who buzzed her hair off whenever she felt like it. Check out Demon Knight if you haven't it's a great film by the way. Plus she's an actress stirring front row at the oscars she should expect some attention.

    I don't think the discussion should be about removing awards at all. Especially not retroactively. If someone was JUST jailed for murder yeah of course, make them ineligible Spacey has loads of accounts of misconduct and claims that haven't been litigated fully about attempted assault. It's complicated. To me this one was very simple. Security escorts him either out of the building completely or right up the back out of view and he simply isn't allowed on stage to accept an award. A further complication for the academy is the fairly valid angle that black performers and producers weren't getting adequate recognition where will and Jada literally boycotted in 2016. It would have ironic sting if his awful conduct here led to him being disqualified from an award when he and Jada boycotted due literally not enough people of colour being in contention for awards

  • @GiltleyRage
    @GiltleyRage2 жыл бұрын

    16:32 Jesus, talking about white guilt... Jada is as privileged as it gets. She's beautiful, talented, rich, famous, possibly entitled, and now we learned she's insecure about her looks because of her condition, and Will knows it best, that's why he acted the way he acted. Simple as that. You can't just talk about Chris' and Will's behaviors like it was the same level. Chris made a joke. There are good jokes, there are bad jokes, there are hurtful jokes but these are jokes. Seriously, to be honest, it wasn't even in the top of the worst or most offensive ones from the Oscars. It was just meh, and Jeda rolling eyes would be good enough reaction. You can react to a bad joke. Either you suck it up, or joke back, or laugh, or even talk shit back - it's entirely your choice. What you can't do is to smack the shit out of people. Period. There's no defending this.

    EXACTLY!! Which is why my theory is that this was all a fake setup to get more viewership. Think about it. Artists perform at the Grammys. So why shouldn’t actors perform at the Oscars, only this time, without people knowing? So the Oscars can essentially be a meta award show of actors getting awards, while also acting out certain things to keep the audience attention. Wouldn’t be surprised if this actually happens in the future. On the music side of things, maybe they should do this with the Grammys too. And we all know who would be the right man for that job…

    It ain’t like Chris said something super off the rails, all he did was make a reference to an old movie simply cuz she was bald. Now yes I’m aware she has a condition but maybe he didn’t know, believe it or not there are women who shave their hair by choice, which a lot of ppl actually thought she did. There was absolutely no reason for Will to do that especially when he, himself was laughing right along with everybody. Clearly Jada was bothered by the joke but that’s something you pull Chris over to the side for OR if you really wanna bring attention to it get on stage and tell ppl joking about her hair won’t be tolerated. Any woman who believes what Will did was some sort of alpha male/protective/chivalrous/romantic gesture really needs to reevaluate their priorities and I do mean that absolutely.

    Is there any evidence for the claim beyond from Littlefeather herself? Also her assumption that Wayne would attack her is just that, an assumption. Is there evidence that Wayne himself ever attacked anyone in public to support this idea? I would fully support the claim that that was the ugliest moment, but I'm going to need more evidence than the bandied about repeated talking point I'm seeing here.

    I find this less shocking than the woman making sexual harassment jokes related to covid tests. When she said all these men could come backstage and take off their clothes, and Jason Momoa walked on stage and she was touching him everywhere. That was really shocking when you consider that the show was heavily influenced by gender equality themes. If Steve Martin or Billy Crystal did the same thing it would be the end of the Internet. How can you fight for gender equality when you do stuff like that? She went the Riddler way and took full revenge on men, they did it so I'll do the same.

    Agree wholehearted with Kareem's sentiment on this matter. As I've stated before Will Smith perpetuates the stereotype of the angry black man that can't control his emotions and causing violence on another black man: NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is expressing his own feelings on the matter, penning a blog post arguing Smith's actions are a “blow to men, women, the entertainment industry and the Black community.” “With a single petulant blow, he advocated violence, diminished women, insulted the entertainment industry, and perpetuated stereotypes about the Black community,” Abdul-Jabbar writes of Smith, echoing the opinion expressed on Monday by Today host Craig Melvin that it was "troubling on so many levels" for men of color.

    As a Will Smith fan, I was very disappointed with his behavior. Getting angry is something I understand, especially since it’s making fun of a medical condition that Jada has. I have that same condition. And the best of people get angry sometimes. But physical assault is like 10 steps over the line. Smith lost his mind there and it’s very unlike him to do so since he’s always been someone very mindful of his public image and persona. It ruined the biggest moment of his career and god knows what ramifications it will have now. And I actually do think he was a deserving winner because he was brilliant in King Richard. But he tarnished his win. It definitely was very ugly and I hope Smith apologized to Rock personally because that is simply not done.

    It really troubles me that Kris (as a self-identified comedian) feels that comedians should be on trial for jokes, and have to explain why they think their jokes are funny. Yeah, that sounds like a real fun time at the comedy club. That sounds like living in a fascist nightmare, and I don't understand why anyone, especially a comedian, would want to live in that world. A comedian is free to say whatever they please, and the audience is free to interpret it however they wish, and if they dislike it, they can leave. That's freedom of expression and freedom of speech. That's non-negotiable. This wishy-washy attitude society is starting to have, where if you are offended enough, you're allowed to do whatever you want, is frightening and cancerous. Ruining the show for everyone because you have a problem with it is so entitled and foolish, and hitting someone is obviously so beyond the realm of acceptable behaviour. The fact that anyone is trying to insinuate that Chris Rock had it coming is too depressing for words. The only thing that this entire incident showed to me is that we clearly do not care enough about free speech/expression as a society, and it's going to bite us in the ass, regardless of how righteous some people think they are.
