Robert Mullins - You’re not alone in your appreciation for the 2016 Ghostbusters. I enjoyed it too although I didn’t love it or anything like that. It was decent enough. Anyway I wanted to know your thoughts on the recent Leslie Jones comments slamming the new Ghostbusters coming out. Do you think she was justified or do you think she was out of line? Thanks and bring on the filthy!

Would some be trolls sure but beyond that we wouldn't care. I liked Wonder Woman but I love Aquaman more cause it appealed to me more and I have seen it about 5x with 3 more planned already. It didn't suck because of the female cast- it was a lousy movie IMO- but the NPC/SJW's can't see past gender-bashing as the source of its failure, which really has little to do with it. I watched the original Ghostbusters 1 & 2 in the theater. As a kid, I loved the movies and still enjoy it because of the the chemistry of the cast. Who doesn’t love Bill, Dan, Harold and Ernie. It created a world phenomenon. I was excited about the reboot, I watched it and thought it was decent at best. Just didn’t have too many laughs. It has nothing todo with an all woman cast it just wasn’t funny. One big difference between Ernie and Leslie was that Ernie was one of the Ghostbusters that happen to be black. Leslie played into the black woman’s stereotype. Granted that might not have been her fault, it might have been in the scripted but it just wasn’t funny. Also one of the funnier roles was Chris Hemsworth playing the attractive yet dumb receptionist. Leslie you got paid, the movie flopped. Move on and stop whining.

    In my honest opinion, if you want to portray women in a bigger light (e.g. bigger roles and more attention) then focus on portraying them as humans not gods. I know this definitely does not apply for everyone but I am getting sick of light trending around this topic. Some of my favourite actors are female however focus on writing a damn good character first and their gender second. If your writing a film trying to empower something because of what they are rather than who then that’s where you lose me. Power to women! But don’t keep pointing at them. If you want them to feel like the norm and equal then treat them as such and stop pointing like they’re a different species. Women aren’t a baseball team and neither are men. Don’t treat them as such.

  • @derekmtl85

    @derekmtl85

    5 жыл бұрын

    They're pointing because for decades they HAVE been treated as a different species in hollywood. There is no denying that. So they point to them, to elevate them to the status male actors get. Funny, you never hear about stop making men into gods (AKA any action movie ever where the male legit is god-like in every way). But when it's women? "wahhhh stop pointing at them and making them feel special". You are one insecure beta male. Anyways, to the main point of the video, i agree with Campea. I just think your reply is the reason why women HAVE to point and make a stand. You'd never say that shit about men actors.

    derek Hanna I repeat “women aren’t on a different baseball team and neither are men” also “focus on writing a damn good character and gender second”. If you want a fair argument then read the damn message before replying to the thing. I don’t give a crap what gender someone is in or out of film I just don’t like it when something is shoved down my throat especially when I already said agreed with the person. Genre is a big piece of context your missing as well. If I go in to see a badass man kicking arse then that’s what I pay for. Did I say I didn’t want to see a badass women kicking arse? Fuck no! Ellen Ripley stands above all action heroes in my opinion but the point is that’s because she was: 1. Well written 2. Well acted It doesn’t matter if she has a penis or a vagina she still kicked ass. To re-clarify my point: would you rather sit on your arse and say women are great 30 million times or actually spend time doing something to improve their circumstances in media. Last but not least yeah I didn’t mention it about male actors because IT’S FUCKING OBVIOUS! I’m not glorifying anyone here or on this fricken planet. I’m just saying that by repeatedly going “oh look how good your doing! Your doing such a good job” makes the compliment feel like petting a dog. Also sick originality with the whole insecure and beta male thing. Definitely drove deep there.

    Haha Oh Derek Derek Derek. You misguided soul. Men have played Gods in movies that were about Gods but other than that your comment doesn't make much sense. Men actors never asked anybody to kiss their asses or call people sexists who dislike their movies. I love it when a actual BETA such as yourself calls a REAL MAN a Beta male because he states a fact. Men and women are two different genders that is biology but they are the same species. There have been strong females in Hollywood before you Social justice warriors decided to waste everyone's time complaining about a non existence issue. These women don't want equally they want people to kiss their asses and they get mad when rational people refuse to do so. In today's world if nobody likes your movie it isn't your gender it isn't your skin color it's because you SUCK at what you do. To be honest there are a lot of people in today's world that suck at their career and love to play the victim when someone gives them a dose of reality. These actresses in Ghostbusters were talentless hacks.

    The symbolism of the Ghostbusters movie? That's a freaking stretch for sure. It was obvious what they were going for and by no surprise it failed. It was extremely forced to make the women the heroes as opposed to building them up naturally with an actual decent script. All they had to do was write a decent script,but failed miserably. Plus the director and cast shit on men before the movie came out, so why would I go watch now? I disagree with John, Sony does not deserve credit for rolling the dice. I mean almost every production has risk to how well it will do at the box office, so there is almost always a roll of the dice. One of my fictional heroes growing up was Ellen Ripley, also part of the reason I was interested in Ghostbusters as a kid. Dana Gordon had more depth than any of the new female cast characters, maybe kristen wigs character would be the exception.

    Dear Leslie Jones: I don't like Trump AND I don't like the Ghostbusters remake. Please quit trying to pretend this is something to do with politics. The style of humor in the new film is about a million miles away from that found in the original films. It's not about the sex of the actors, it's not about who you voted for, it's about what makes you laugh, and your film didn't do that for me, and for a lot of other people. Negative reviews of that film written by women are easy to find. Maybe you should check them out before you start parroting this clickbait sexism narrative.

    @John Campea. There were a lot of problems with the Ghostbuster 2016 movie that turned off fans of the original Ghostbuster movies. It started with the fact that few wanted a reboot when fans, like myself, had been clamoring for years for Ghostbusters 3; a continuation of the original's storyline. So, let's start there... 1) The majority of fans wanted Ghostbusters 3. The only reason we never got Ghostbusters 3 was because Bill Murray wouldn't sign on to the project (and stay signed on). Murray delayed so long that we lost Harold Ramis, which put the movie further into doubt. It got to the point that fans knew any Ghostbuster 3 movie would have to be a passing of the torch movie; which was fine. 2) The Sony email hack. Once the emails were leaked that Amy Pascal had hijacked Ghostbusters from Reitman and was working to give it to Paul Feig, fans rightfully got angry. This was the first of the many insults to the fans. This is when the anger toward the new movie started. 3) Paul Feig as director. There are people who like his movies, no doubt. What nobody can deny is that Feig's movies are all based on one idea; take a well-known male-centric character, recast it as a female lead, and make the movie a parody of the material. Sometimes, it can work. Sometimes, people will like the movie. But, the entire premise is to parody the original with a female lead. Fans knew, from the moment Feig was attached to the movie, that this was not the movie fans wanted with Ghostbusters. 4) It would be a reboot, not a sequel. This was just one of the nails into the Ghostbuster 2016 coffin. Not only would fans not get a sequel, not only would the original material be parodied, but, the original story, cast and timeline would be junked for a reboot in this manner. Imagine if Fieg's movie, Spy, was instead, Jane Bond 007 and every Bond movie prior was retconned. Imagine the outcry that would occur from Bond fans. This is exactly what happened with Ghostbusters 2016. 5) The attack on fans. This was the final nail in the coffin. The fact that four females were cast as the new Ghostbusters had nothing to do with the backlash for the vast majority of fans. The above points were the reason for the backlash. But for Feig, the actresses AND Sony's marketing department to attack the fans both before and after the movie's release sealed the fate of the movie at the box office. It was going to flop at the box office in regards to profit. The people who were instrumental in forcing Ghostbuster's 2016 out the door are now gone or removed from decisions. Jason Reitman is now being allowed to make the movie that should have been made long ago; Ghostbuster's 3. Fans are now waiting to see if it will be a good film or not, but, we know it will be the passing of the torch film that should have been made in 2016. We know that Jason will do his best to respect his father's movies which is something that fans want. It's being reported that there will be two male and two female leads; a fine balance and few fans will argue over. Will Ghostbuster's 3 make bank at the box office? Yes, and, for all of those reasons. But, what will assure that it makes bank is the fact that Feig, Jones, McCarthy and others attacked fans for simply not wanting or liking the 2016 movie. They have, with that act, assured that Ghostbuster's 3 will make bank for no other reason than in retaliation to those attacks.

    15:19 I disagree and I think she most certainly took it personally. I know some people don't want to believe Leslie being selfish in all this but it's just the truth unfortunately and it was a bad move on her part. The movie was misplaced in its effort to rewrite history and pretend what happened in the 80's never happened. Basically right there you've already failed by the point of conception in deciding on going that route with the franchise. It backfired, it lost them tons of money and now they have to re evaluate with a course correction. So they decided to respectfully take the franchise back to it's roots with a proper sequel that everyone deserves no matter your gender or whatever. No reason to be offended or even disappointed because it's really unsurprising what is going after the box office results.
