I really like the dog proof trap that you use I love the fact that you let him go if they're too small or they don't have good for that's being a real conservationist

Great video, EVERYTHING he says is true, tried & tested!!! I often use 2.5-3" stainless self tapping screws with a 5/16" socket head, screw them to trees & roots & they will hold anything.. fast, easy & reliable just carry a small hammer drill..I have used Phillips head screws but they usually will strip & have to be cut to remove, the 5/16" head fixed that problem & I've had no failures in 2 years now.. thanks again Stu for your time & hard work 👍👏 you brought me a long long way in a short time!!!

I am a family man with 5 children, and fell in love with trapping as a kid, but it is hard to run a trap line with work and the kids sport and honey due list and so on. But I still love to trap and some yrs I might only put out a half dozen traps and I still produce some furs, so you're right, if ya love to trap, you will find the time, even with just a Couple traps. Ya don't need tons of traps to catch some furs. Keep up the great videos ✌️

I have exactly 8 traps (mixed dogproofs and legholds) and in the last three weeks caught 26 muskrats and 14 raccoons. Not huge numbers but I will tell you a lot of fun and I am so glad I have started my own trapline that I have dreamed about for years! Thanks again for all your knowledge and tips!

I am a professional nuisance wild animal trapper. The concept is great for a beginner to watch. I would suggest that they look at beginner’s trapping kits at Minnesota Trapline Supply. They are good sets for a discounted price. Here is a statistical analysis based upon what this guy said. 5 traps x 7 nights = 35 trap check opportunities. 21 coon + 4 opossums + 2 skunks = 27 animals. 27 divided by 35 = 77%. A 77% catch rate is absolutely outstanding anywhere by anyone! No beginner is going to have that catch rate. That is by properly setting on sign at the absolute best locations. Plus, that catch rate cannot be maintained at even one great location for very long. This represents taking the cream off at a high population location where the animals are numerous and a nuisance. That catch rate will abruptly drop. Then it is time to quit or move to a new location with a new population of animals. Beginners need to understand proper trap anchoring to prevent an animal from escaping with a trap on it which will make all trappers look bad. Beginners need to have a realistic catch expectation. They are beginners not being able to read a situation and instantly know exactly where to set and how securely to anchor a trap. They also need to know how to safely deal with a live animal. That boot method is fine for you and me. I even have sometimes gripped a large live raccoon behind the neck, but I would never encourage anyone to do it because it is very dangerous. Encouraging the boot method on a small raccoon can easily get a beginner hurt whether a kid or adult. Beginners - use a catch pole and be safe. There is no justification for going through rabies vaccine because of a scratch or bite by a raccoon that a beginner released.

Just tossing out an idea that would be helpful for me and maybe other trappers but would you ever do a bait and lure video? Go through what bait and lure you use for dirt holes, DPs, and beaver trapping and if it is homemade how you make it. 👍🏻

I've seen allot of different channels and yours is the only one I can stay in tune with. So I've been out of the trapping world for quite a bit and I'm just curious about lures and baits. We use to use Cavens if I remember right. Wondering what your thoughts/opinions are for purchasing and/or making lures and baits. Whats best for what species? Brands? Types? Just trying to not invest in a bunch of worthless merchandise that wont work. Thanks for the info in all your videos.

I began trapping on my own land last year using a half dozen Duke 1.5 traps. Never used more traps than that on my line all season long, sometimes less. I have congestive heart failure and due to health and age, I cannot walk a long line. More traps certainly catch more animals but you can indeed enjoy trapping and catch fur using just a few traps. The key, I found, is to run the line every single day, rain or shine and keep the traps set. Critters here in Mississippi eat every day, rain or shine. I've got video of raccoons, possums, etc. working my traps in pouring down rain. You don't have to be a highly skilled trapper either. Animals will come to scents, baits, and lures. Yes, it helps to put traps in great spots but trust me here....nearly any animal who comes near your trap, even if it isn't in the best spot, will smell your lure and check out your set. So just set the trap and bait it. If it doesn't catch something in a few days move it somewhere else. You will have a ton of fun trapping and you will catch fur, just as this video claims you will. Take the challenge! Get yourself a few traps, even if you buy used ones to save a few dollars, and set them out. See for yourself what trapping is all about. You will be glad you did. Great video!!

To anyone that asks what a "good spot is" look for water source, locate tracks of animal youre looking for (Thats library education), find a path still used by your sized animal next to a cross path. Cross path meaning highly populated area of predators and your prey.

As one of the many people who haven't started trapping yet but want to, is there a reason you attach the cable to all your traps, especially the dog proofs with the short chain? Wouldn't a guy just be able to screw them to a toggle with some good screws and washers and that be fine?

But I’d go nuts pushing or hammering in stakes at my coon sets .
