I really dislike it when people let their dogs run loose. That dog was a friendly one, but other dogs let run loose have tried to attack me in the woods which was the last time the dogs ever tried that on anyone.

There's a great pyrenees that likes to get in my traps every year. he'll travel a mile or more. Usually I can walk up n pet him n talk to him a bit and take the trap off but this year he wasn't having it. Soon as I touched the trap he grabbed my arm n tried throwing me around like a rag doll.

Had a similar dog issue on the property I deer/turkey hunt on. Long story short turned out to be a neighbors dog, owner let the dog run loose thinking the wooded area behind them didn't belong to anyone. I would personally feel horrible if I accidentally blasted away someone's family pet

Hey J, I love your videos and they got me into trapping. This year was my first full year of trapping and I mainly went after beavers, however I had to pull my traps before the end of the season. I caught my limit of otters and I couldn’t seem to keep them out of my traps. I like catching them, but I would have liked to catch more beavers before pulling my traps as I ended up catching twice as many otters as beavers. Anybody have any tips or tricks to keep catch beavers rather than otters? Just about everything I’ve seen says you catch them just about the exact same way.

I caught my dog this year, check it out on my channel! How I handle those situations is if it is a dog who I know the owner I take it back to them and notify them of the situation and that they have nothing to worry about because I check my traps every day, sometimes twice a day. If their dog gets caught, they will be ok, and tell them everything. including how long I will be trapping, they will usually just keep a closer eye on their dogs during that time.

since the dog took off when you did odds are slim that he would return to that exact spot any time soon. however if he decided to stick around and be a little to interested in the traps , i would have put a good scare into him just to make him skiddish of that area.

I’ve leaned a stick up on a big tree with a under ice snare hanging from it half way in the water with castor smeared above the snare on the stick and they’ll swim into the snare that’s on a drowner. The dogs usually don’t swim out and get in the snares but anything is possible and we all know if it’s possible it’ll happen on a trap line

Well I usually take a photo and when done setting I will go to the owner and ask if he knows who it belongs too then head too his home and ask them too plz keep the dog away from the traps … if I can’t find the owner I’ll load it up and go to the county pet shelter and drop the dog off and let them know the dog was on a farm being trapped for nuisance beavers . I’ve only caught one dog in over 50 years of trapping and it was a lab pup that got into a coyote snare the dog lived but had a nasty neck wound and of course I was asked too pull traps and go else where . Cats well are cats if I catch a cat and I can’t see a farm house well kitty becomes coyote bait …. Sad but people who are not in the woods as much as hunters and trappers don’t see the number of cats running wild out there eating our song birds and pheasant quail and partridge turkey babies . It’s shameful , from when I was a boy and where we are now . But yeah that’s the problem we face and in Iowa in the county you can shoot roaming dogs on your property. Or as a agent for the land owner . But the way I’ve done it has never came out bad . And I drop a twenty off to the shelter too keep me informed and figure out if the dog was picked up or adopted out .

I got paid to remove beaver by the town, beavers were destroying roads and costing tens of thousands in damage every year and they were blocking emergency access so firetrucks, ambulance and police couldn't get through. Would you rather people die or hundreds of acres of town and houses burn to save a couple beaver?

Learn reality, why do you want to start beaver fights? You do know they are territorial and will fight if you just throw a random beaver in with others and most places that have beaver already in the area are pretty saturated, which means not much room for more random beavers. So why do you want to start beaver fighting? Is it more amusing than watching roosters fight or something? Sounds pretty messed up to me honestly, your kind of a horrible person really.
