I get around 345 to 365 on a full tank The new Tacoma is a big miss, on so many levels. Plus Toyota moved production out of the USA to save costs ..... but gave the American Toyota fanboys a big middle finger....by raising the price 8 to 10 k over previous Gen Nissan frontier is going to benefit and bigley 🎉

They will never do that, it’s gone for good.. Don’t blame Toyota as much as the US rules and regulations… I am more upset about the cost. I got a Canyon AT4 for 7k less than the Taco and have a far better interior and warranty. GMC gives a lifetime power train warranty and $26/month got me a 100k bumper to bumper warranty… I do love the new taco body style but not for that cost difference. Also an unproven engine. GMC’s motor has been out in the full size for 5 years now..

The fact is that NOBODY was buying the Frontier until toyota priced themselves out of market for the average dad and worker. • @Mikef1969

I reserved a new Taco sport with the premium package at $55k. After doing tons of research I went and got the new GMC Canyon AT4 for $7k less with a far better interior, tons of soft touch materials and 20” rims/tires. It also has full leather seats, free app access for 3years and a life time power train warranty. Added an extra $26/month for a 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty with an engine that has been in the Sierra for the last 5years. To many unknowns as far as the Taco goes for me and interest rates are simply way to high to buy a used 23 taco when GMC is giving 1.9% for 36 month loans. I’m lucky as my home is paid off so the higher payment wasn’t an issue to get the lower rate..

@@RobMotiveNope. Never driven any Tacoma. It’s a completely underwhelming truck. Actually considered getting one because they still offer a manual, and then found out it sucks because of the engine tuning. The Canyon has 30 more hp, 120 more torque, 400lbs higher payload, 1,300lbs more towing, and the exterior and interior aesthetics and fit/finish are on different planets. Not to mention that apples-to-apples the Tacoma msrp is $5k-$8k more than the Canyon. It just doesn’t stack up. Not saying it’s a bad truck, but it should be the cheapest in the segment, not the most expensive.

Toyota has been building 4 bangers for decades on the turbo diesel Toyota Hilux with no issues. The Hilux sells over 600,000 worldwide. The biggest issue is pricing. I believe the other issue is not enough of the 2024 🌮 Tacoma is built yet since it is all new. The Toyota Tacoma will be no.1 in midsize sales again in 2024 . However, competition is getting better. Look at the Ford Ranger raptor, chevy Colorado zr2 as examples.

So many of the commenters are misinformed. Take pricing, for example. The $3000-5000 off MSRP prices that dealers are now offering and/or are agreeing to when pushed brings the cost of a 4th gen Tacoma down to very near what the 3rd gens cost in 2022 and 2023. Ditto in regards to fuel economy. EPA figures for the 3rd gen 4WD V6 were 18 City, 22 Hwy. For the 4th gen 4WD 19 City, 24 Hwy - an 8% improvement, plus the 4th gen has slightly faster acceleration and greatly improved low rpm throttle response. And no transmission gear hunting. 4th gen rear coil suspension offers greatly improved ride comfort. The steering feels more nimble, The seats more comfortable, The seating position more car like. The commenters ignore all of the above a whine like toddlers about such mundane things as "cheap plastic interior" "glove box fits loosely" "tailpipe hangs too low"

I've owned a couple of 4 cylinder Tacomas for the past 30 years and find the new truck very over priced. While I appreciate the advancements, the other automakers have stepped up their game considerably. I believe the sales numbers will be more evenly spread across the various automakers. Unless Toyota addresses the clear price gap, the competition will take advantage and under cut them to gain market share. Nissan is putting a lot of money on the hood these days. it's also because of inexperienced buyers. they are buying the tacoma name, not knowing what they are losing. like buying a 70 boss 429 mustang compared to a 78 mustang . sure the 78 is ok. but it's not what the older guys got.
