    These 8 speed swaps are really awesome and you're truly a pioneer for an entirely new frontier in the speed industry. I'm ecstatic that you've returned to fairly regular uploads in spite of a tough hand having been dealt to ya! Can't even imagine what it's like to have your whole life upheaved and starting anew with such short notice. You're weathering the storm well with smooth waters on the horizon. All told, I honestly miss the N54 content. Obviously you need to let that simmer while you're boots deep in this 8hp-swap-the-world saga, but I can't wait till you've more BMW videos coming. Even if it's just little doodads like chinsy interior LED strips... Anyway - Happy you're well and I hope the same for Dave!!

    Where is it illegal to replace your clockspring? I do know they have clocksprings that can be used on the 70 series that enable to have steering controls hardwired through the clock spring. Just curious as I have never heard it being illegal to replace your clockspring!

    It’s illegal to modify or change to something different any part of the srs airbag system. Unlike a lot of other mods you can’t get airbag stuff engineered. That’s why PVS use oem wheel frame, igniter and airbag housing. Just hides the Toyota badge to keep Toyota happy.

    The first gear of the 8speeds is very short too, but you could theoretically Programm it so that it always starts in 2nd and even never utilise 1st if you want it to...

  • @ZeroTo60Tube

    @ZeroTo60Tube

    Жыл бұрын

    The 8hp 1st is even shorter. However the benifit of this setup is you dont really notice the shift. So you have that 1st torque on hand to get the truck moving with out working the engine much at all. But you dont feel it go through the ratios. In this video we started in 1st and was in 5th just as we cross an intersection at a stop light. The gear box is really good for keeping the engine in a sweet spot, sorting the rest out and the driver doesnt even notice.

  • @brennanmetcalf

    Hi guys, great work going on over there. Could you do a video on how you manage low range shift behavior? I have a 5.3 - 6L80E swapped 'cruiser and that is one of my biggest complaints in how the system is working. Without the transmission 'knowing' it is in low range....the shift theory gets a bit wonky.

  • @ZeroTo60Tube

    @ZeroTo60Tube

    Жыл бұрын

    Ours has no issues, shifts are based on RPM, load and output shaft speed. Our controller monitors engine load and knowing that makes shift points work fine even if the vehicle speed is significantly slower. The controller is the magic about this swap.

  • @brennanmetcalf

    @brennanmetcalf

    Жыл бұрын

    @@ZeroTo60Tube That is good to hear. I think that is what the GM trans is 'trying' to do as it will relearn the longer you stay in low range ( but it senses the vast difference in gearing from low range and it definitely effects shift quality and shift theory ). On the Lamik controller, would it be possible to activate another shift table for low range if that was needed?

  • @ZeroTo60Tube

    @ZeroTo60Tube

    Жыл бұрын

    @@brennanmetcalf That is possible with the lamik controller but its not needed. Does your transmission know what torque the engine is making at the time of shift? If not that will be your issue.

  • @brennanmetcalf

    @brennanmetcalf

    Жыл бұрын

    @@ZeroTo60Tube yes, it is a factory GM 5.3 to factory GM 6L80e. Factory paring. The factory computer knows when the vehicle is in low range and goes to a different set of tables. In a stand alone swap, this is very difficult to emulate since that CAN message is coming from the BCM and a Tcase module.

  • @ZeroTo60Tube

    @ZeroTo60Tube

    Жыл бұрын

    @@brennanmetcalf Ahhhhhh, i thought you had a GM box with aftermarket controller. It may be relying on vehicle speed for something in the OE application which is not happening in your case. I'll be honest, im not a fan of the factory TCUs. Even the BMW ones, for what we do with the transmissions it gets in the way fairly quickly.

    There are a few s54 zf8 swaps out there. But keep in mind auto gearboxes and most of the torque converters dont like more then 7200rpms. Those guys who have done the swap do 8k too but the gearbox might not like it in the long term...

  • @ZeroTo60Tube

    @ZeroTo60Tube

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes quite a few 8speed swaps for the s54s out there. Lamik has the engine to trans adapaters and e46 canbus intergration. However full engine torque reduction for the s54 i will need to look in to. Mind, you really dont need it. These landcruisers probabaly make twice the torque of the S54 and the 8hp doesnt even break a sweat.
