After owning a car with a 8hp70 nothing else has ever come close to being so good. I wouldn't pick a 6 speed 200 box for a conversion

I don’t think you guys will struggle to sell these once they gain some traction as an alternative and on paper better conversion to the 200 series box. I started looking into doing this myself on my own 79 series after i came across this channel a while ago, keen to see how it holds up!

Love to see how this conversion would go in my 2013 76Sr WGN which has been set up as a go-anywhere tourer/ potential hybrid camper tow vehicle. Think you guys will do very well with this option. I really enjoyed the content and information you provided. If you guys are seeking another test vehicle let me know would enjoy the opportunity to work with you guys to make something fantastic for the 70'Sr market. Well Done guys !

I’ve started with a wooden jig and the ruler/verniers method. Same deal as you I’m trying to keep the transfer in the factory location in my 105. I’d be keen to buy a transfer case adapter as they are the same pattern as the 79. I got my gearbox from a 2014 Jeep grand Cherokee

Billet machining looks cool but I’d make a few for R&D. Then send one set to the foundry and get cast one’s made in bulk. How much are you selling the standalone gearbox ecu for.

@@imwalking1690 unfortunately our transfer case adapter wont work with the Jeep boxes. We are using the BMW boxes. Mainly due to supply, but also due to them being in the M50d x5 which with a sligh tune pretty much walk away from most things on the road. Being made for such a powerful OEM diesel application seemed a no brainer. However on the same note with this controller the converter is less cruicial. Main reason people play with conveters and this controller is for transbrake launches, when people are trying to launch above 4000rpm. But we can actually start from a standstill with the converter locked. And even on a gentle start, where you want to slip the converter we lock it up pretty quickly.

They lock up nearly instantly. In fact this controller hardly uses the converter.

Me and my VDJ would love to have this box. Solves so many issues. Add an incentive for early comers......to take it to the head of the priority list....please

We are sticking the original plan and pricing targets. It’s had so much more interest than we anticipated.

Everyone with a 70 series would love this , it just comes down to money. Me personally I can’t justify that , as much as it would be worth it ill just keep chugging through the 5 speed box 😢.

Yep interested as I have been looking at the Wholesale product. Holding off atm now, closer to 20k if proven, makes it very attractive. Andrew.

That is true! I guess after being blessed with the 8hp we don’t really see the 6hp as a wise move. But you are right there are people doing those conversions still.

Hopefully if the demand is there and we can out source certain parts to be made in higher quantites it should be possible to get there pricewise. Know we can sell 100 kits and manufacturering those quantities, would make a big difference to the cost.

Hi Guys, Awesome work 👍keep it up for sure..ti think the market is definitly there for it! I have been toying with the idea of doing an auto conversion, either a ZF6 out of a falcon or one of these ZF8s into my 4.8 GU patrol. Would be much better than the re5 that is currently in it. Would this be something you guys would be interested in looking into? Making adapter plates (gearbox to engine and transfer to gearbox) and looms ect with the TurboLamik. Cheers Adrian

With the 8 speed absolutely. While the zf6 is pretty good compared to a lot of the other autos, it still lacks a lot compared to a zf8. Once we have the VDJ stuff all finalised we will be working on them for other platforms. Are you local by any chance?

Hey man, sorry your comment went to spam on youtube for some reason. The 6hp28 are a fairly strong box. Its just lack of performance on them compared to the zf8, that sort of writes them off. This Lamik controller initially supported 6hp, however about 5 years ago they decided to stop supporting them. Reason being its madness to use a 6hp in a swap when the 8hp exists. The difference in price bewteen the two is quite insignificant.

Have you thought of water jet cutting the bulk of the material away from those adapters? might be able to use the dump from the big adapter for the smaller adapter or at very least speed up machine time a lot… Anyway I’m keen to do this swap on my cruiser if Toyota ever delivers it.

This would make me buy one just to put this automatic in it!

Yeah, we lock the converters very quickly. In fact if you start in first gear, the converter is locked from the get go and we use the clutches to get the vehicle moving. The converter is used for second gear starts (which is most of the time), coming to a stop and transbrake launches. As the converter very rarely slips the majority of heat is radiating from the motor. Not the box itself. In the drift car when we use this with a clutch pedal and continally slip the clutches in the transmission for clutch kits (the worst thing you can do to the box) we rarely see temps of 80deg. We will use a front mounted cooler on mac's car. Howeever we may also look at other typs of coolers down the track. Some 79 series applications, will have issues where they can't get the box hot enough. Which i know sounds insance when you come from the Toyota automatic world which is the opposite.

The 8 speeds definitely help keep a motor in it’s efficiency range. With the BMWs a 8 speed car feels faster than a 7 speed dct with the same power. However are the new 10 speeds better again v?

Is the 8hp95 any different in terms of how it bolts up or controlling it with that ecu package? Have done multiple 1000hp dead hooks on 305 MTs in Trackhawk without much dramas would suit the bigger power 79s better maybe?

So different in how it bolts up and to my understanding different clutch packs. The 90/95s are great, but rare and quite exxy. We are working on making the 70/75 handle the same power as the 90/95 but hopefully for about half the price.

Can it be programmed to lock out first gear unless manually selected? ie, only need first gear for off-road, not for street. In low-range 4x4 need to be able to select any gear, ie, if want to start in low-range 5th for example? What shifter has to be used? I understand shifting is fully electronic, including Park pawl.

This controller has 8 different program modes to control start gear. Shifts points. Converter behaviour etc. it’s very customisable in the back end. But our intention is to have them leave with modes to suit their intended application. It currently works with a basic switch style shifter, or BMW canbus shifter if you want an oem style shifter. We are looking in to adding different shifters. Everyone likes their own touch, so we want more options.

Wow, this is something I thought of many years ago after having a company car with this gearbox then stepping into a 200 series with its 6sp. I asked around a few places to see if it could be done and no one interested - mainly due to the size difference but also the electronics behind it. Best of luck, I'll be following closely.

A zeroto60 g member is working on that. With the intention of emulation Koenigseggs latest creation. Will require some custom coding on the lamiks side and a controller for the shifter. However its possible.

Most people that own 79s are mortgaged to the eye balls and only a few will actually be able to afford it I’d reckon

yeah, pretty much a trackhawk landcruiser lol. say less, say less lol i want one of those hole plotter setups. thats brilliant. i have a lot of OLD race car parts i could reverse engineer. i know fusion 360 very very well. i have a bmw m13 f1 cylinder head i have been dying to reverse engineer to produce for the m10 blocks. that thing would be great for plotting the cam gears etc. will he build one to sell? ask brock lol

@@ZeroTo60Tube certainty there are a few that do it for 1HD-FTE's with the 200 cruiser 6 speed but they refuse to sell it as a kit gotta be done in there work shop and most of them are up in Queensland. personally i would drop the money to do both my 1HZ land cruisers if yous made a kit when i have the money gotta up grade to parabolic springs first my 75 is rough as hell.

So it’s the gear changes that cause clutch slip. In fact it’s trying to upshift while pushing all the power through the box for a flat shift that can lead to slip. (Oem applications do not flat shift, but we like to) Once you are in gear and everything rotating it doesn’t stress it. So 1000nm in gear like on the beach or something, for 10mins it won’t even get hot. But if you change gear every 2-3 seconds it will. The 8hp is a brilliant piece of engineering.

I’ve got a VDJ78R putting out 200kW and 750NM at the wheels, my transmission also has a damaged 5th gear so was looking to do an auto conversion. I’d be interested in being a beta tester if you are still looking, I have my own hoist and am experienced undertaking engine swaps and modifications. Let me know if I can help cheers

LRovers have them eg my 250kw Discovery which is great offroad plus the box will lock up in all gears. Hopefully the conversion will too. Only issue with the box is a leak affecting @ 250 000 boxes with porous castings between webbings. Love my 8 speed.

Hey mate! Good question and my belief is that it'll be perfect. Better than manual by far. But again once we sort mac's car out he will be able to put it through paces many of us will never have to go through. We are hoping we build a mac proof conversion so that way the rest of us will have trouble free 8 speed motoring! 😅
