Toyota must feel embarrassed

These are the world’s best transmissions and can make any engine look good. If you haven’t driven a ZF 8 speed - you’re missing out. Well done for doing the work on this conversion - more older cars need these transmissions- they improve response, performance, fuel economy, flexibility and the all important acceleration. 👍😎

After years of saying stickshift was life… and now seeing these 8HP in action thanks to you and the team. I might get an auto in my life one day. Till then I’ll keep learning.

I've been binge watching all of your videos, and really enjoying the journey with all the projects and builds you have, talking through all the challenges so anyone who's considering something similar knows what to expect. I'm hoping one day you'll get to do something with either a Toyota UZ engine or a 120-series, since this build has me thinking about what my GX470 (basically a 120 series Prado with a 2UZ) would be like with a ZF8 in it

I wish I could get this truck in the us.... Idk if I could get one from Canada. Good job on taking your time! I know the money into it was expensive though it'll pay off when it comes to getting business. 3 weeks ago I went out to Ohio to pick up a 3 ton car with my dad's 2013 Dodge ram with this transmission. I was so impressed! 15mpg ( 6.37 kpl) at 80 mph (129 kph) and I could not believe how well that transmission did! Parked it at 2100 rpm and never got hot and that hemi did amazing! My step mum thought I would blow it up going that fast and I showed how cool it was staying. If I get around to doing a 1uz swap this is the transmission I'm putting behind it!

So happy to see this journey from start to finish, starting from the idea to create kits to working out all the problems and launching product 👍 BTW, today I tracked my 8hp70 for 40 minutes with 650whp and then around 750whp-800whp, gearbox didn't skip a beat despite constant breaking and accelerating.

Man the enquiry this year has been incredible. And the crazy part is most people have no idea how good it is.

​@@ZeroTo60Tube I'm running np241or transfercase from a rubicon with 4:1 low range. All this is powered with an m57 from an e46. I use the pajero for snow wheeling in the winter and trails during the summer. Next I plan to do a solid front axle 🙂

11:39 so good you can use 8 gears on low. My stupid hilux 6 speed auto won't go 5th or 6th in low range and won't drop into 6th on the highway until you do 117kph.

The 8speed definitely brings the quality of drive up a tonne in the 79s. Had a mate with a new Fortuner test drive this car yesterday and first thing out of his mouth was how much smoother the 79 series was….. seems so wrong when you know when the 79s should be like.

You really deserve this mate. Been seeing the whole process. I’m sure you stand to make a lot of coin from this great idea…

We have had a few people drive it now and say the same thing. It changes the feel of them to drive so much.

Andrew any news on the instrument cluster i want to buy it I just need more themes and you're really smart can we get MHD on board.

Would love to potentially see these offered for the earlier 1hdfte 79 series, you've already got the transfer end sorted so just need another bell housing designed up.

I second this. FTE kit is going to be just as if not more popular than the 1VD kits. FTE is heavily ties up by the A442F and A750F transmission due to torque limit.

I have been super busy with a few things. Check out spool street for an update on the n54 situation. I cant talk about it publically. But nightmare would be an understatement. As for that just trying to get back in to a position where i can get building car again. Last 12 months have been a challenge thats for sure.

yes it is! currently its a manual swap with the 2j. Soon will be 2j 8hp. We will be working on ways to connect the factory shift buttongs on the steering wheel up too.

When you think about it, its cheaper to buy a whole new GWM Cannon which has one of these fitted standard, then it is to swap one into a LC...

I want to really see how this auto performs off road on the tracks steep decents to huge hill climbs in vic high country before I want to swap out out my manual ony 79. I know the high way driving n towing n fuel savings looks great n the work u done so far looks worth the swap. . but I bought my 79 the tractor for off road gearing to work 100% factory set up.. n does great .. but the highway touring is shit so what a toss of the coin in can I have both ways with the German brains 😅 over the Japanese brains 😂

Worth checking out Tj and Mac when he was testing the 8speed in tassie tracks. But in short the trans give you a lot more control when you need to use large amount of torque from the engine. Much less chance of breaking any drive line components that’s for sure.

Have you ever put a zf8 behind a barra in a xr6 turbo?

Not ourselves, but we have 4 barra adapters out already to customers. So should see them out in the wild soon.

G'Day Andrew, it's been a few weeks since I last commented on your great run of work for the 8HP. I've just caught up on the latest video, even better it seems. I'm a 1HDFTE A750F owner, this upgrade would be the BEST, if I can get a lookin with all those interest/orders,,, 550!!!!!!! amazing. I did note your comments on the lockup and temperatures, a lot more to discuss if I ever get to the pointy end of things I'm sure. I have a manual lockup kit now and it works well for me as I like to have control over the unit where possible. a few questions for you: 1 Does the ZF/TurboLamik allow any gear lockup? More so in 1st Low for hill descents. 2 How can this be programmed/altered/selected? 3 The A750 has the range selector on/across the box, I wonder how you might work this with the conversion? 5 I also wonder how you guys are going to source/supply ALL those ZF gearboxes!!!!!!!! All the best. Dave. If I get to Brisbane in the next 12 months I'll aim to pay you a visit.

Hi David, 1. yes it can be programed when to shift based on pedal position and a few other factors. But you would more than likely simply use a manual shift mode for that type of driving. 2. A few different ways, but again, likely a feature you wont need in the auto mode. Keep in mind it has 8 programable driving modes. 3. Do you mean high and low range on the transfer case? 4/5 We have a plan. Currently have 50 transmissions in stock with another 200 lined up from various suppliers.

No doubt you have some smart guys on the case of when ditching an existing auto,,, how to fool the TCU/ECU that it is no longer "there", unplug the harnesses, plug in a "Dummy". Coupla questions: Is it a BMW torque convertor or a billet custom job? Are you using a fabricated brake pedal or a pedal from some other Toyota? Does the software protect the gearbox from dickhead shifts, ie downshift to 1st gear at 80 km/h for example? Does gearbox and transfer case align in factory position for tailshaft lengths? Does the box require full synthetic fluid?

Im sure it's protected from dhead shifts and yes you use standard front and rear tailshafts.

Hey mate. Worth checking out the other videos it answers everything. But in short not changing the brake pedal. It will be an option. But it’s not a requirement. Most people I have spoken to want the extra left leg room. Tcu protects the trans fully. Transfer case is nearly in the same spot. Within millimetres. The brow does require specific fluid.

Sold under licence to OEM manufacturers. You can buy boxes direct from ZF but it costs millions to get setup. You have to design your own box and software etc. You can get certain parts from ZF.

I would like to get this auto conversion done to my LC 79 ute, how far down the line would I be at this time?

Hey mate! You would need to speak to an insurance company to see if it would effect you directly. Its just a transmission swap at the end of the day. With the correct local approval it shouldnt be an issue.

I couldnt put an accurate figure on it. But it would better. With the 8hp you dont rev the car so much getting up to speed. There is no drive train energy loss once the converter locks. There is a reason most of the euro brands switch to the 8hp, it definitely helps new cars meet emitions targets.

Can you use a 200series shifter instead?

Yes we can set that up. But i would recomend trying one of these first. Massive difference in driver engagement and response.

Another silly question for you say you have three modes on the shifter as standard would it be a stupid idea to have the ecu recognise when a trailer plug is connected and go into a tow mode? Or way to much effort and should just set that up through one of the shifter modes

I’ll answer my own question probably to much effort but In saying that if there was an in cab trailer brake controller that could back feed a lot easier as they do have recognise feature that senses when a trailer with brakes is connected

That may be something the controller can do. In fact positive it can. But will take a fair bit more wiring some relays and all it will be saving a flicking the lever over when you jump in. We can set them up with the 8 modes. But I’m starting to think people really won’t need them.

We mainly use the xdrive box. However we do now have adapters to convert xdrive to rear wheel drive.

hi andrew its glenn in broken hill quick question does all the variations of the zf6hp use the same can signal? just wondering if my falcon zf6hp26 will intergrate into the bmw e90 can signal as the bimmer used a zf6hp19 just trying to see if i can trick the traction control so it does not come up as a fault on the dash any help appreciated the barra looks like it was meant for the e90 cheers glenn

I know some are similar, but the boxes rarely interchange. Even a 6hp21 from a e90 wont go in a x1 of the same age.

It’s something we are going to start work on in the coming months. The integration with the other electronics is the key. We have the ability to emulate the original auto, just need to work it out.

As of for me, I finally caught the person vandalizing my car but my parents told me to let it go. The person doesn’t park near by anymore but the damage has been done. Hella years of pointing fingers towards close neighbors since I was a kid and it turns out it was some person I never ever met before. Sucks when stuff like that happens. But all in all I’ve been walking my dog and working on my cars whenever they have a problem or two. All in all, give the people who watch your channel a reason to keep clicking man!
