Ted leaving the wedding is a crappy friend move. Yeah ok. He had to move to Chicago for a job he was being headhunted and all in all he ended up being exactly where he needed to be at the time if you know what I mean... It just pissed me off that the narrator said it wasn't a good friend move on Ted's part. If he was just leaving to leave then yeah but he didn't have a choice

Future Teds voice isn’t a plot hole. You hear him tell the story the entire series, from inside his own head. That’s how he hears himself. We all hear ourselves differently in our own head. At the end, you see him talk from the kids perspective. You hear how he sounds to everyone else. Which is why, during the run of the show when he’s on screen, you hear the voice everyone hears because the kids are imagining the stories he’s telling them.

It also makes perfect sense from a production standpoint. When the show started it made total sense to want the show to be narrated by an established actor like Bob Saget since Josh Radnor was relatively unknown at the time. Then after nine seasons of getting to know him, itd be weird not to have Josh be Ted in the flash forward in the finale so ofc he takes over for Bob.

1) Robin not having any girlfriends isn't a plot hole. People fall out over the years, especially considering she did plenty of traveling during the series 2) How is not knowing the mother of Barney's kid a plot hole? I believe he said it was a girl he hooked up with while attempting a perfect month 3) Marshall fighting with his brothers is wildly different than fighting a stranger. Brothers have limits and no threat of litigation. And perfect example in that episode, Ted and Barney got sued. AND fighting for your fiance isn't really unexpected or a huge surprise since they've been together forever 4) Barney made a bunch of rules that he never followed lol. Yeah he could've learned to drive within a year. He drove Ted's mom home, he stole Ted's moving truck, and got speeding tickets 5) Lily and the dogs can be explained too. If she knows she's going to Robin's house, she can take the medication needed to sustain a visit. At the time she wasn't working and antihistamines can be expensive 6) Sharing a toothbrush doesn't have to be consistent. Robin would borrow "Ted's" toothbrush all the time. Same for Lily and Marshall. They could share one, then someone gets their own and then end up sharing again.

Plus future Ted said that they still don't know where the pineapple came from. If they showed how it happened that would be the actual plothole. There are really big plotholes in the show and they choose the ones that arent. Like Robin once said she didn't have any friends when she moved to nyc (until she meet the gang) and yet she was hanging out with her friends at the night she meet Ted.

Tracy didn't leave the wedding early. The train was 45 minutes late so there was probably about an hour between Ted leaving the wedding and Tracy leaving the wedding.

I honestly consider some of them either memory inconsistencies, as the theme of the fact that the entire show is reminisced, or the kids imagining it slightly different than it actually happened.

Ted says he's "vomit free since 93", but vomited during the first episode. Robin finally shows she is ready to put love before her career with Don, yet chooses her career over her marriage to Barney. If they had revealed where Ted got the pineapple, that would have created a plot hole because future Ted tells his kids they never found out. Marshall had a very strict rule about no food or drinks in the car, yet a few episodes show them drinking Tantrum in the car.

She put everything she had into her marriage to Barney, and for it to end for the same reason her relationship with Ted did way back in season 2 was a major step back in her development as a character.

It's just like saying cops have gun and they should be deemed fearless of them but they are still scared of guns bc it's their life they r scared of

Ted having a different voice in the future is a good thing in the sense that it helps the audience to easily distinguish Current Ted from Narrator Ted. If the narrator had Ted's usual voice, the audience would have to always scan the scene and Ted's mouth movements beforehand, if he is present in the scene, to understand who is talking right now. You could let Ted talk in a more raspy and wise voice, but ehh, Full House Ted feels like a better solution to me.

#2 was answered in a deleted scene in the finale, Barney was celebrating his 30th perfect night and then the barman said something on the lines of "August has 31 days", with 10 minutes left before midnight, he chose a random girl to pickup and saved the night.

For the lily allergic to dogs makes sense. It depends on how bad the allergy is. If she has an allergy but she can be around dogs it makes sense. It all depends on the dogs hair

also: when barney is truth drunk, ted claims robin "never picked up the check" when they were dating and went out for dinner. that he always paid for everything etc. yet in the episode in which he claims she never makes her men feel needed, she picks up the bar tab and it's implied that she always took care of things like that when they were dating

A mystery is not a plot hole. Honestly, finding out about the pineapple would’ve felt like a ridiculous bunch of fan service. It literally says in his future narration that he never knew. I don’t even think it needed to be solved. I think the episode is nice because he never did get the whole story of what happened that night. And #4 isn’t a plot hole. You can love guns and still not want some crazy stranger waving one in your face.

#4. I own guns. But when a person pulls out a 45 in a place where there are no guns present and its a person you don't know. That's STILL SCARY. What kind of logic is that? If I owned a snake, am i suddenly supposed to not fear cobras?

Future Ted having a different voice despite already being an adult was pointed out to me by "Family Guy", of all things! 😂🤣

Has everyone forgotten that josh Radner (ted) is going to have the EXACT same voice if he narrated as he did in the show? It would be confusing which one is which. It’s amazing that they didn’t have josh Radner narrate it, we’d all be so confused.

Here's an HIMYM plothole: In season 2, when Robin gave up her dogs, she said she sent them to the farm with her 'aunt and her lesbian lover'. But in season 8, when she helped Barney return Brover and she said it's because Barney helped her bring her dogs to her aunt's farm, Barney had to point out that her aunt's 'good friend' was her lesbian lover. Robin acted like she was just realizing this for the first time.

I actually think that’s the only genuine one in the list - but only because the later episode he lays out the fighting machine (and discussed his memories of proper fights with his brother) For him to collapse in relief and get beaten by the guy’s boyfriend doesn’t fit that at all

We already know who's the mother of Barney's daughter. It's number 31 of course!

I seem to remember almost every episode of How I Met Your Mother had one of the characters giving several versions of the same story, especially Barney. It was one of the funniest parts of the show, and could explain a lot of these inconsistencies.

have you never been to a wedding? its absolutely common that the band doesnt play until the end. DJ or just radio plays into the night

“My dad’s not going to pay for that wedding” - easily explained as an ironic joke. Tradition states father of bride pays, Marshall made a silly suggestion, she joked re a stereotype that wasn’t going to happen anyway. The harpist - Mickey knew of the wedding (he later reveals he’d even planned a speech but wasn’t invited). Not only is it plausible, but it fits with Mickey’s character that he’d get his daughter to cash in such a favour. Robyn’s guns - I’m sure an unarmed NRA member may be afraid if a stranger they thought was a celebrity reveals they’re just a crazy person by waving a giant gun in front of them. Honestly, the only one I notice that bugs me is Marshall’s “fighting” experience

10 could easily be explained, people's voices sound different to not only other people but also when their voices are coming out of machines, so maybe to the kids Ted's voice sounds like Bob Saget and that's whats being presented to us, either that or Ted thinks his voice sounds like Bob but he's super wrong

That's a good explanation, I like that. I never really thought about it as a plot hole really but it'd be actually quite nice if he was overdubbed.

Tracy leaving the wedding early isn't a plot hole. The wedding seemed it was dialing down since all 5 of the friends were outside so they would need to have the band there anymore. Also the train was so late that the wedding probably ended a long time ago. There's also a difference between a plot hole and unanswered questions.

The biggest plothole is in the last season, when they say that Robin has spoken only three times about her mother and then make those 'facts' up. In reality she did mention her mother half a dozen times throughout the series.

I know there are plot holes, but one thing to keep in mind is that the show is full of flashbacks, and those flashbacks are stories told by a character, and just like in real life we get facts wrong about things that happen in our own lives, we often exaggerate them, and sometimes we flat out lie about past events, so why would it be different with the characters?

The pineapple did get explained. Also for the robin gun "plot hole" you can get scared of a situation even if you are not scared of guns...duh

Also the robin's girlfriend's thing is not a plot hole, people fall out and when robin became part of the group they spent almost all their time together and she worked and traveled all the time

Number 10: You know how when you record your voice it doesn't sound the same recorded as you hear it when you speak? When Bob Saget speaks it's from Ted's viewpoint, so it sounds different than when we see and hear ted as Josh Radnor, much like we hear ourselves differently than others do. This is not a plot point but a genius detail. I expected more from you watch mojo

All the scenes in s9 showing Ted getting over his psychotic obsession with Robin. The ballon metaphor immediately comes to mind.

I've always been confused about the Gary Blauman one. It's not even that hard to miss because he has such a recognizable name...

Robin's fear of guns and love for guns is not a contradiction lmao. It actually shows she understands that having gun pointed at you is dangerous. No NRA member thinks it is safe to wave a gun around and point it at people.

Thanks to the format of the show all plot holes can be shrugged off as, “future Ted doesn’t remember the stories perfectly because they happened a long time ago.”

Number 1 is answered in a deleted scene when it turns out ted stole it from one the captain’s building.

A base player can actually leave quite early. At least where I am from, we have a band for the first two hours but the party keeps going until morning. The band is not invited and leaves after their performance. Also, I agree that it doesn’t matter how much you like weapons. In fact, the more you know about them the more you are scared of them being bad handled. That ass hole was pointing the gun at everyone.

#9 is not a plot hole. 1) Just because Marvin and Daisy (Marshall's kids) aren't IN the scene does not mean they don't EXIST. Do parents take their children everywhere? Why would a father bring his toddlers to where he and his friends would be watching 3 movies nonstop? 2) Just because Ted is WEARING a wedding ring in 2015 doesn't mean he's married. In season 9, we see Ted telling Tracy to TAKE OFF HER WEDDING RING so he could re-propose. The two met in season 9 (shot in 2013-14 but set in 2013) and Ted came back to Farhampton Inn a year later (2014) and proposed. Even tho the unexpected pregnancy postponed the ceremony, they both have been wearing the ring. Thus Ted's "Give me back your ring" line because THEY WERE WEARING IT. Furthermore, there's a difference between a plot hole and continuity error. For example, the narrator's voice changing is a continuity error, not a plot hole. And i noticed a lot of entries on your list are neither, as I just pointed out.

I always thought it was Ted's actor narrating the whole story. I didn't know it was someone else.

I believe that Bob Saget is the narrator because Ted hears that when talking, and it reverted to Josh Radnor because it was no longer from Teds perspective anymore, but a third outside perspective. Besides seeing Josh Radnor with Sagets voice dubbed over would be weird.

Ok the first "plot hole" is not a plot hole. His voice sounded different except when the camera was focused on him because everyone's voice sounds different in their own head. And for the entire series Sagets voice was a good approximation of what teds voice sounds like from teds point of view.

For number 9 - those were their predictions for the next three years. it wasn’t what actually happened.

They missed a lot, probably. But there is one I just thought of. The timing of Marshall's growth spurt. In the episode where Barney's brother James meets his dad, Marshall takes about how his last growth spurt was in in the 5th grade. However, listed in the show when Marshall keeps complianing that he can't tell dirty stories because they all include lily, he mentions Jenna Cristali and how he had his growth spurt and broke the play set and fell onto her '2nd base'. This is just one of so many small continuity errors in the show but then again almost all of them can be covered by the fact that Ted is telling old stories and may be hazy on the details kr make up something in the stories to comedic effect.

Well people would generally be scared of other people holding a gun...Especially when they don't know the person, so I feel like that and Robin knowing how to use a gun and loving it when its in her own possession isn't a missing plot hole, it's just normal lol

Remember Barney is speeding to try and get off of a ticket? So he knew how to drive then too...

Guys, there's more! On the top of my head right now two: 1) Barney has shared the story about how he lost his virginity at age 23, yet in another episode (seasons later) where Marshall has a thing for boards and statistics, he said that he did the math in Barney's affairs based on the fact that Barney has been having sex since he was way younger, though he already knows when he lost his virginity. 2) I think in early seasons, possibly in season 1, we have a scene from Ted's wedding and is totally different than the actual marriage with Tracy. Different dress, different clothes on her made of honor, even a whole different woman. The woman in the first glimpse of the wedding weights much more than Tracy.

In their wedding, Lily revealed that she and Marshall have been together since 1996. But in season 8, Marshall revealed that 1996 was his junior year. Lily and Marshall have been in a relationship since they were college freshmen.

For #5 there’s also the episode where Barney keeps trying to get his way out of a ticket by driving really fast

The Pineapple was explained. Ted stole it from the captain porch when he was drunk (its an old sea tradition to leave a pineapple on the porch)

Even if you are a gun nut, someone pulling a gun could mean you get harmed or die, of course robin was frigging scared.

Robin was never scared of guns. She just knows you’re not supposed to point the barrel at people

A plot hole for me is what is scooters real name? In Lilly and Marshall's wedding his name was Bill, in Marshall's court case against Brad, scooters name was Jeff.

I didn't mind the finale, because you have to realize that Ted is telling this story to his kids, not the audiences, but the fact that they put 95% of the 9 season on Robin and Barneys wedding instead of us having a chance to actually know Tracy better and seeing her more with Ted kinda pisses me off...

I watched the final episode, saw the credits and yelled; “Damn it, Trudy, what about the pineapple?!”

I noticed several of these plot holes, I started looking for them after the disappointing "finale"

its weird how plot holes even exist anyways - do the writers REALLY FORGET what they've done ? or is it the result of having different co-writers over the course of seasons and they don't catch it ? what about all the actors ? five actors who work on the show never notice these things when they're doing the read-through and rehearsals of each episode ? none of them ever stop to think "hey, that line doesn't sound right - it seems like we did something else last season didn't we ? " How can plot holes get past so many people of the shows cast and creators ?

@@capeto08 you are probably right, i live in europe so going to spain for learning spanish was the cloesest option ;)
