Barney’s abandonment issues make sense: - His dad left him at a young age - His girlfriend left him (for another man too) It’s one thing when people in your life leave, but when it’s someone really special, it hurts a lot

The moment in season 8 where ted realizes even though he's surrounded by his best friends and yet feels lonely 😔 and tells his kids that he would give anything for an extra 45 days with the mother 😭 just shows even though you are surrounded by your loved ones you do sometimes feel lonely 😔

There are actually 3 hard moments that really touched my deepest feelings, 1: the death of Marshall's father, 2 knowing that Robin cannot have kids, and 3 when Lilly left Marshall for studying, and how he was dealing with the pain she gave him. Tbh, HIMYM is the best sitcom I've ever seen, because it's not always about making jokes and making the audience laugh, but it's also about teaching us the meaning of life, how hard life can be, and how we can deal with the difficulties caused by life, under any circumstances.

I LOVE how they handled Barney's father. How his friends pressured him into spending time with him witch ultimately ended in my favorite line, "because if you were going to be some lame suberben dad, why couldn't you have been that for me?" It was said with so much sadness and anger and I have never related to a fictional charecter more. Finding a parent who left isn't all 'yay! I love you, we are a family again!' it is years upon years of abandonment, stress, and complicated emotions. That's why I love that Barny didn't recindle with his father in that episode.

The Leap and the whole of season 4 for that matter just showed how real and deep the show was and unlike other sitcoms when it came to those moments they didn't make jokes out of it, they took it seriously. The way Ted had to deal with being left at the altar (especially since he was partly to blame), then being fired, being beat up twice (by a man and a goat lol) and overall struggling to figure out how his life had gone so wrong from how he thought it will be and just being clueless as to what to do next. Yet still he saw some positives and it led to better things. This really encouraged me when I was in the worst state of my life. I really thank God for HIMYM.

For me: 3. Barney confronting his father - not just the subject is sensitive, but you can see the mix of feelings through Neil Patrick Harris's performance, 2. the death of Marshall's father - since the news and all the grieving process, and 1 the moment when Lily tells Ted that sometimes she wishes she wasn't a mom - motherhood is not easy, is not just good moments and cuteness, and the way Lily looks incredibly sad to admit that breaks my heart.

Out of curiosity why did you like the ending? Personally the fact that they made Barney go back to being the same person even after accepting that he's Canadian, destroyed the play book, and committed to one person didn't make sense to me. Also how Ted still loves Robin because he did get over her a day before the wedding when he imagined her as a balloon. They matured their characters only to revert them back to how they were in the beginning

For me the moment that stands out is Barney confronting his father. Until then he was someone who we thought had extremely high self esteem, lived in denial and had basic commitment issues but the moment he asks his dad why he wasn't there for him, it tells us that a lot of what Barney did and said was basically pretending to be someone else. In reality he never had a male figure to look up to and that hole in his life was always there.

Though it's not the ending I would have loved to have seen, the finale did bring the story full circle. In older Ted's mind, he started the story with how he met Robin because that is where the road to meeting the mother started(no Robin, no Robin and Barney. No Robin and Barney, no wedding. No wedding, no meeting the mother). However, his kids were also right; it was a long, drawn out story confessing his feelings for their Aunt Robin. But there’s a difference between your 'true love' and your 'soul mate'. Ted and Robin were in love at first sight, but weren't ever truly happy together because they wanted different things in life; Ted wanted to settle down and have kids, while Robin wanted to focus on her job and didn't want kids (though she was genuinely sad when she was told she couldn't have any). When Ted met Tracy(the mother), he met his soul mate, the one person who he could truly be his nerdy, quirky self with and have his family with. And with his heart finally able to have the wife and kids he always wanted, his feelings for Robin were pushed to the VERY back of his mind. Once the mother died however, Robin came back into his life more and more often and therefore back into the forefront of his mind. We see that Robin has an apartment in New York and once again has a mass of dogs, so we can assume that she's stopped traveling for work like she used to. Therefore, it is the perfect time for her and Ted to get together: Ted had his dream of the perfect wife and kids, and Robin had her dream of traveling the world and becoming a famous reporter. Now that they've done the things that were keeping them apart, there's nothing holding them back from being together. They were destined to be together …just not when they first met. ... It's why season 9 is so drawn out; it shows just how perfect Robin and Barney are together...at that time. But when Robin gets the chance to travel for work, she puts her job before her marriage and that ultimately leads to its end. Barney reverted back to his scum-bag ways because that's his safety net; he did it after his and Robin's first go, he did it after Nora broke up with him and then again after he and Quinn broke up. The only thing able to change him for good was his one true love, the birth of his daughter. As for Ted and Tracy, sadly, 'Happily Ever After' isn't always 60, 70, 80 years down the road, and after six years, Ted realizes he is finally able to move on. If he wanted to tell the kids only about how he met Tracy, he could have started the story on the day of Robin and Barney's wedding, but instead started with the day he met Robin. 2030 Ted is retelling his entire story because he is convincing himself that, no matter how deep he buried them so that he could be happy with Tracy, his feelings for Robin are still there. And now that he IS finally able to let go of Tracy(like Tracy was finally able to let go of Max), those feelings are coming back out. Even Penny and Luke say that they've seen the way he and Robin look at each other. And after hearing their father's full story, why wouldn't they want him to finally be happy again?

For me, Barney's abandonment issues episode describe everything about his personality making sense of all his actions and why he has never been able to establish a real long-term relationship. It also hits important thing, his father left him in 1983 that's why when he describes everything he used the number 83. A lot of care, thought and consideration has been put in this show, it is sad they could not come up with a better finale

Ah msmojo,ye cut out the best bit of no.2,While Marshall is yelling about having a pocket voicemail from his dad,it turns out his dad realised he had pocket dialled Marshall and left him a lovely sweet voicemail saying he loved him and had enjoyed their weekend together so while it's sad,it's lovely that Marshall had that voicemail as a goodbye.

The version of homesick they look at in HIMYM is not one you get from a vacation…. It’s the feeling of being away from the place you were born and raised and all your family. Don’t sugar coat it…

The moment where it took over 8 seasons to finally known the mothers name, get to know her very briefly only for her to be killed off in the series finale. Not a single sign suggested she died Also Bob Saget as the narrator for every episode but 1 made zero sense.

Even though the NYC lifestyle and jokes are something I didn't understand coming from a smaller city, this is my favorite show in the world. Adulthood and it's many hardships are incredibly relatable and inspiring when they overcome them. And it has some of the best comedy I have ever witnessed. So yeah, I think so lol
