And Robin & Barney’s growth were a HUGE part of why the ending failed. They gave us their original planned finale versus the organic story’s ending.
@JM-us3fr
Жыл бұрын
I didn't mind it. HIMYM always kept it real. Whether it has Lily run away, or Marshall's dad dying, or Ted getting left at the altar, or Robin and Barney getting divorced. These are all very real situations we find ourselves in at a moment's notice, and they are heart-wrenching. Each is abrupt and painful in their own way. As for Ted getting with Robin at the end, this makes sense too. Very few viewers asked themselves, "Why is Ted telling his kids this story in the first place?" The fact that the story spent SO much time on Robin and so little time on the mother suddenly made sense; he wanted to see if his kids were okay with him getting together with Robin again. When an ending answers questions one didn't even think to ask, that's something truly special.
@shannond7437
Жыл бұрын
@@JM-us3fr Nah, they spent a season & a half getting us into Barney & Robin just to break it off in the final episode. And their reason for breakup would also apply to her and Ted. They did exactly like Game of Thrones by trying to force the original vision ending onto the organic stories. It failed.
@JM-us3fr
Жыл бұрын
@@shannond7437 Well first of all, shipping wars are not real life. Second, it made complete sense with both Barney and Robin’s characters that they couldn’t stay together. Of course every marriage feels hopeful at the wedding, but happily-ever-afters only exist in fairy tales. Game of Thrones failed because the directors were god-awful writers, and even worse when compared to George RR Martin. The ending of HIMYM felt complete; like the story was always about…real life, with real friends and real relationships, and especially real hardships.

How I Met Your Mother has the most realistic series arc of all time for a sitcom. People grow up, they move away for jobs, they get divorced, they get sick and die, etc…. It would’ve been very easy for the show runners to write an ending in which everyone is happy, and have happy marriages, and happy kids, and happy lives, and live happily ever after, but it’s that’s not real life. It’s my favorite sitcom ending of all time. I know everyone disagrees, and wants that fake happy ending nonsense that every other sitcom has, but we’ll just agree to disagree. 😉😭 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
