I've been vacationing in Truro since I was a baby, and at 34 now, I'm so surprised that I've never heard of this story. I'm sure they try to suppress any murder stories because it's such a massive tourist destination. The cemeteries around the upper Cape are terrifying! They're so old and creepy, yet beautiful at the same time.

I'm from cape cod, sandwich, the graves/crypts in the 3 oldest cemeteries in town (I grew up in the oldest part of town. est. 1637!), are from the 1600's-1700's. They are fascinating, sometimes the epitaphs, sometimes large family crypts from 1687 through 1792. That families life must have been very different. The oldest house in town is a museum now called the hoxie house, built in 1643, it's a trip! 90 percent of our tourists are very senior but I wish people my age, 42, appreciated history as much as the older generations. Don't come for me, I know lots of people my age are history buffs, just saying, I see it firsthand.

So true! I work in laboratory medicine where us techs run the lab and rely heavily on that next shift in order to leave on time. I live alone so with that I have posted 2 emergency numbers on a board in my office and my coworkers know beyond a shadow of a doubt to call those numbers and 911 in the event I don’t show up for my shift. I encourage all workers to do this as to not waste valuable time. I’ve worked in my field for almost 20 years with hardly any random absences so when a person doesn’t show up something is WRONG.

One of my 12yr old school mates, in the 6th grade, ran away from home with a 32 yr old man and her boa constrictor. It was all over the front page of the newspaper in our town. Her parents not only gave their permission for her to marry this guy, but they also paid for the wedding and let the creep move in with them. A few years later, they both ended up in prison for getting babysitting jobs and helping her husband molest the children.

He was rather sloppy and dumb when it came to not destroying evidence and covering up his whereabouts etc. seems more like unfortunate luck for him to have had more than one victim. Also, shame on the courts and his mother for allowing his juvenile case to be suspended with only probation. Not sure if it would’ve prevented these murders, but things could’ve possibly been different if they made him serve the original sentence. Man looking back on it now; it's actually pretty anxiety inducing to remember and think of the days where we didn't have cellphones.. it's so much easier to go completely missing. Investigation would be harder. Navigation is much harder, obtaining evidence is much harder because someone couldn't just take a video of something sketchy they see.. the list goes on and on.. it's just eerie to think when you go out, you go without a lifeline in case of an emergency. You have no cellphone when you leave your house to go out, so if something happens, the only way you'll have a way to reach help is if you get the opportunity to use a phone from a store, a payphone, or a strangers home landline... (All that very much stresses me out now that I've seen the perspective of "having a portable phone for an emergency & for staying in touch with people in general. If kidnapped phones can be pinged, investigators can do searches into the phone's call log, text log, Google searches, photo/video library, etc " ~ You can imagine just how many Case's went unsolved back then because of lack of resources for investigators.. I wonder how many killers got away Scott free, how many missing people never got found? That's where the anxiety comes from. For people in general, I feel terrible for any family that had to experience that level of wishing you knew where your loved one disappeared to and how? Ugh, that's tuff.

No cellphones?! Omg. Everyone was prob killing people.

Ben McReynolds, Apparently you didn't grow up in that era. 😁 You know that saying, *'You don't miss what you don't know?' There were phone booths everywhere. We had maps for navigation.😮 We even hitch-hiked😱. Somehow we survived 😂. You wrote (looking back)..so perhaps I'm wrong about your age. To me, there's no anxiety. I have more stress/anxiety now with a cell phone and a G.P.S. to depend upon! ✌️ Health and happiness 😊🌻

You are so right. Now it’s hard to imagine that when I grew up, my only way to check in with my parents was when I called them on a pay phone. But otherwise, they had no way to contact me. I can’t imagine letting my child leave without being able to contact him at all times. It’s just what we’re accustomed to. What’s really sad with this case is the case of John Wayne Gacy, All those boys who had disappeared were dismissed by authorities as being runaways, despite parents pleading otherwise. What a horrible thing for parents to go through. I appreciate this channel so much because we don’t want these victims and their families to be forgotten.

I am now 50 years old but in 2004 we found out that my 6-month pregnant baby had a chromosomal defect and wouldn't be able to survive outside my womb which by the way would be illegal now, my DNC... I would be forced to give birth and the baby would die slowly but that's not what this is about. After I lost the baby my husband couldn't come home from the army to be there for me and I had endometriosis and was on painkillers until I had to have a hysterectomy eventually. Meanwhile I became hooked on Vicodin and called in my own prescriptions for a year or so and of course got caught. I served 3 years away from my four kids and husband all who never knew that I had an addiction in the first place because I hid it well and never exposed my children. Meanwhile so many violent offenders get off with probation! We seriously need to overhaul our entire justice system. No judge even gives you the time of day if you have no lawyer to represent you. You are definitely guilty until proven innocent in our justice system in the U.S.

Technology also gives opportunities for more crime, though so long as the police are good at their job then things should be better. As such the US is probably better but where I live is definitely much worse, police don't respond to burglaries, they were covering up child trafficking rings until recently and in part still are, and the justice system itself is rotten and gives the worse of the worse slaps on the wrist while prosecuting political crimes with considerable vigour and harshness. On top of this the UK looks alright on the face of it as the statistics don't track actual crimes but are run off a survey most likely in order to make cooking the books easier.

  • @blankfaye6376

@Voryn Rosethorn i have heard of other countries operating like that, and that is awful. in the US it’s much easier to track people and at least find and stop the killers nowadays, back then it was much harder and it seems harder in the place you described. if the police do their jobs, technology is an amazing tool and finds so much crime, but that’s a big IF. in smaller places in the US we have a similar problem (mostly county crime) due to their local police not wanting to get the Feds involved/ different counties. this causes crimes that could’ve been stopped or at least helped to go under the radar and forgotten, or solved a year later or so. sometimes in worse off small places, the police will write off a missing person and do nothing more, simply stating that they’ll “come back soon” and refusing to do more than dip a toe in. then a body is found and it’s a big “oops, we’ll do better next time” and then it happens again a few years later/ they uncover more bodies by the same criminal. it’s insane.
