Hello Dave, Interesting video, I am not sure I will ever do Flux Core Welding, but nevertheless interesting... Cheers. Paul,,
Thanks for the video keep on keeping on.
Great video with great tips. Appreciate you sharing your tests and struggles for us to learn from so we dont make the same mistakes. Great info for when I get to the point to try welding. Saving video for later.
Great tips. I hold a flashlight with my non-dominant hand to help position the stick before I start welding. I also attached a small flashlight directly to the torch upstream of the nozzle, which worked ok but didn't illuminate the area as well since the nozzle blocks the light
Interesting viewpoint. Some wrong information, but still an interesting viewpoint.

@@TheMiniMachineShop For starters, stick out (contact tip to work distance) should remain relatively constant and is dependent largely on the wire diameter. 1/8" to 1/4" is typical for the home welder. In all my years, I have never heard anyone, or any of my instructors (I did attend some welding school) suggest that 1" stick out was ever acceptable. It's a common beginner mistake, but it is, in fact, a mistake. BUT, these are your welds and you can weld them however you want. There are some things that vary by opinion, i.e. push vs. pull, whipping, cursive e or circles, etc. But there are many more things that are factual for the best looking and best performing welds. I highly recommend Jodi's videos at welding tips and tricks. He has hundreds, if not thousands, of videos on just about every welding process out there.
Hey. Better foot protection. OSHA will fine ya

LOL the Occupational Health and Safety Administration is for commercial businesses not for a private residential workspace. But you are correct should have better protection.
When you said nonsense about not stepping on torch cable assembly, if you meant because it’s common sense ok. But if you meant it doesn’t matter you are wrong. While the cable assembly is very tough , the liner is easily damaged. If you step on it and it is fully supported nothing is likely to happen. ( though it is possible to damage the liner)But if you step on it where it is laying across something ( itself, the ground cable, anything that will cause a tight radius, it can kink ,and or damage, the liner. ( I know it should never be layed over anything but in the real world it happens) In fact the liner can be kinked / damaged by coiling the cabe too tightly. You should avoid stepping on it. It doesn’t take much damage to the liner to cause it to not feed smoothly.

@@TheMiniMachineShop ok like I said if you were saying it because it’s common sense I get it. But you would be surprised how many people new to welding don’t realize how fragile the liner is👍 I’m sure I missed it somewhere, but why are you opting for flux core over mig?

@@TheMiniMachineShop got it Dave using the wrong word is sometimes part of trying to remember the point you are trying to make while filming. I just didn’t want someone learning from you to get the wrong idea
$300 gas? Are you sure? It's 40€ to rent in our country for 1 year. Refill is like 15 or so. Never refilled. I don't weld much atm

Yes, just bit the bullet and ordered the wire and 75/25 gas from Amazon. Free shipping but with sales tax came to $331.20 and the wire $21.52.
