This Mary Poppins Song Means a Lot More Than You Think

Ойын-сауық

Walt Disney had a well known fascination with the most somber song in Mary Poppins: Feed the Birds. Many of us know he liked the song, but why was that? What made Feed the Birds so important to Walt?

My mother remembers Mr. Walt coming to her home for Sunday dinners - while he and her father discussed their plans for developing a scrap of Florida wilderness land (to become Walt Disney World). My mother said Mr. Walt always took time to notice the small things. If she was playing in the living room when Walt came in, he would see her dolls, drop down, and ask, “ what’s the story today?” And she should tell him. She was impressed, even as a little girl at how well Walt could tap into her imagination and play right along with her sincerely for a few moments, before his business meetings with her father began. It’s the small things that count. The small things that make the biggest differences.

Hey Bonnie, it must be so cool having a mother who actually interacted with Walt. Your story certainly lines up with others I've read about his connection with kids. As a "big kid" himself, he did so many things thought to be impractical. I have to ask, was your grandfather a Disney employee or a developer? I may have read about him before.

Haven't seen the movie yet, though as a dubbing nerd, supercalifragilisticexpialidotious is definitely a treat. (I spelled that by memory... lol)
