Mickey came to life at the start of the Great Depression, which was a time of increasing repression and nationalism. Even trivial subject matter could be censored, and The Barnyard Battle is a good example. Germany seriously banned this because of the cat's hats.
It's something you would expect a country like China to pull today, but in 1930 Germany was leaning toward a great transformation. Despite being super popular in the country, Mickey was banned (along with a ton of other cool stuff) when the Nazi Party took power in 1933.
