My Dad Walt Disney - Diane Disney Interview - DisneyAvenue.com

Diane Disney was the ultimate torchbearer of her father Walt's legacy. Walt Disney was a very public figure, but Diane did her best to avoid the spotlight until she realized that her father’s centennial year was approaching in 2001. She worried that people didn’t know who he was any more. The once-familiar face and voice from years of television exposure was fading into the shadows. If people recognized the name it was as a corporate entity and no longer associated with a real, live person. She made up her mind to reverse that process, even if it meant having to sacrifice some of her own privacy, and the Walt Disney Museum was born.
Back in 2006, before the Walt Disney Museum opened, Diane sat down with American film critic and historian Leonard Maltin for an interview that appeared in the bonus features of the Walt Disney Treasures DVD "Your Host Walt Disney" for a warm and intimate look back at her heartfelt memories of her dad, Walt Disney.

Sure like all people he is flawed. Im a Disney Artist and this interview was so wonderful. To me, Walt was just as much a World Leader as Nelson Mandela, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Mother Teresa, and others. To me, he celebrated Goodness. And to me, he was born with the most magnificent and magical Life Plan… and I think he felt that deeply. That’s why he never gave up, despite his early career struggles. It’s not easy for me to put these thoughts into words…. But I sense that Disney heart went very deep… and that he had a Light which he desperately wanted to share with the world.

As a child of the 60's I grew up watching the Woderful World of Color with Disney on Sunday evenings. My childhood was not always the sweetest memories, but Disney did bring joy & pleasure to it with his wonderful films & stories. My children were raised watching the same films I did. Disney was an innovative & creative man who changed the world. Even ro thus day I cannot watch Old Yeller without shredding tears at the end. I watched the Mickey Mouse Club in the afternoons. I have a memory of my aunt taking us to see the film Sleeping Beauty at a theater. I'm 64 now. I love Mary Poppins , the scenes of the woman feeding the birds still warms my heart & I cry. Thank you for showing this documenttary about his family life. What would the world be like without Disney? I don't want to know. RIP TO HIS FAMILY.

Before this century is over, there will be a Disney park on either the Moon or Mars and possibly a space station too.

i am wondering why she located the museum in San Fracisco, instead of in Los Angeles area. i suppose she lives in the bay area?

Yeah, it is an odd location for the museum. A museum about Walt Disney, in a city that Walt never lived in. But it was his daughter's home later. She and her husband moved to the Bay area when Ron quit working for Disney. For her to build and run it... I guess being near her home does make sense.
