Mr. Baker. I think more Family Trees episodes of famous corporate families would be great. Carnegie, Rockefeller, Ford, Hilton, Westinghouse, etc. Seeing where the families came from and how they rose to prominence would be interesting.

4:00 I just want to add a little context to Walt's mother tragically dying. The gas leak happened inside a house that was a gift from Walt and Roy. The house was bought and paid for in full so their parents could enjoy their retirement together debt free. Tragic!

There is a version of the same three lions that was probably used by William the Conqueror. I guess it is hard to know exactly what is the origin of the symbol, since it is so old. There are some theories though...

One minor correction on the CEO front, Iger is the current CEO but Bob Chapek served at CEO from 2020-2022. Iger's contract has ended in 2020 and he was on the board as chairman and planned to retire but stepped back in when Chapek was dismissed at the end of 2022. Otherwise was fun to take a look at the extended Disney family for a bit. Thank you!!

I recently saw an article that indicated the trustees of the Lund trust fund are paid quite well (up to $1M per year) to manage the fund. If they release the money to Brad, they will be out of a job. This is likely the reason they are refusing to release his funds.

Here's a little tidbit for you. My great-grandmother Margaret Murray (1851-1949) of Pictou, Nova Scotia had a younger sister Christina, who married a Thomas Disney, younger brother of Elias, in the 1880's in Goderich, Ontario. That branch of the Disneys died out in the 1970s. I remember my Dad and his brother being in Probate Court with representatives of Walt's two daughters, sorting out the estate.

I hope you make a video about the Warner family as well since the WB company also celebrated 100 years of existence early this May.

My wife's maiden name is Dawson. I was able to track her father's side back to a Daniel Disney (1529-1588), then back to a Sir William D'Isney II (1245-1300). For some reason, Daniel's son, Henry, changed the family name from Disney to Dawson.

That explains why during Walt's life, he did movies like Marry Poppins, Peter Pan, & Winnie the Pooh ( English); Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast ( French); & Daniel Boone, Johnny Apple Seed, & Old Yeller ( American Frontier).

My Wife's Grandfather was a neighbor of Roy Disney growing up. He considered him to be one of his nicer neighbors. I always assumed he meant the brother of Walt, but I suppose there are two notable Roys that he could have meant.

Here’s an interesting story about Brad Lund, Walt Disney’s grandson with an intellectual disability. I had (he passed away in an airplane crash) a cousin who had an intellectual disability. On my dad’s side. That side of the family has a lot of money. Well it seems Doug my cousin and Brad Lund went to the same school. There was a private school somewhere I believe in California that was for people with intellectual disabilities. It cost a lot of money to attend. I believe it was residential. They were roommates. I think this was 30 years ago. I remember my dad telling us about this.

Correction: Brad Lund doesn't have an intellectual disability, a *judge claimed* he "may suffer from Down syndrome" as a reason to deny Brad his inheritance (which, that's not a good reason anyway, but our judicial system isn't great) and force a legal guardian on him. Brad has denied this and a DNA test has proven he indeed does not have Down Syndrome. The test was presented in court before the judge made that comment. The judge later removed the legal guardian and I think recused himself, but he's safe from an ADA discrimination lawsuit because of "judicial immunity". This is a good example of how the judicial system is biased against disabled people (to put it lightly). Just the *perception* of being disabled, even with hard proof to the contrary, means they're happy to take rights away from you, like we see here denying his inheritance and forcing a legal guardian on him (at the age of *50* btw). Actual disabled people, especially the majority who are nowhere near as high profile as a literal Disney heir, have even worse done to them.

I am suprised that one of Walts grand nieces would call out his deeds and the company as a whole. In addition I am happy that the decedents are in the filming business, going to show the legacy Walt laid out back in the day and his impact, as a fan of animation and Disney this was an amazing video. By the way I am also Canadian.

Fantastic video, always. Can I give a few pointers though. 1) the Mortimer mouse story is likely apocryphal, Ube Iwerks tells a story of Disney trying out names with the guys at the studio. And supposedly Lillian when interviewed had never heard that story. 2) even Oswald's origins may be found in Disney's Julius the Cat of the Alice cartoons. back when Disney was running Laff-o-grams. I have had the opportunity when younger to go to both Disneyland Anaheim and Walt Disney World, Florida a few times, and in my ex wife’s family who have some Irish and then we made a point to watch on Saint Patrick’s day or week the Disney production call “Darby O’Gill and the Little people”.. why do I mention this? because it’s on DVD and it had extra supplementary material on it black-and-white footage that I assume is from one of those Saturday or Sunday Walt, Disney hour or wonderful world of Disney TV programs where he’s interviewing an Irish actor and they’re talking about Irish heritage, and then WED just briefly alludes to something like he has some Irish in him. Well, I have English in me but no Irish but I just thought it was neat how you could lay out the entire heritage of his family to include French, English and Irish (& Canadian?) bits to it. Thanks for this video!

You should do a video on the family tree of the British boxer Tyson Fury. He's been called by some to be the king of the gypsies because of his boxing prestige and because many of his relatives were also successful pugilists that were influential in the British Irish traveler community. For example he is related to Bartley Gorman (who also called himself king of the gypsies), who was the inspiration for the voice of Bane in the dark Knight rises.

Like with all people the Disney family has its good side and its dark side. I'm just glad the Disney company has been able to entertain us for so many years.

When you track down the lineage of Disney to 50 BC you’ll find that Gaul is entirely occupied by the Romans. Well not entirely! The small village of Issigny of indomitable Gauls still holds out against the invaders. I find these random family tree videos really interesting. I recently had to do research into a company I had applied to work for. as part of the interview process I was encouraged to research the history and origins of the company. I was unsuccessful in getting the job but it was still very cool to learn about the company. From its humble roots of Jewish Immigrants in Ireland to a nationwide company in the UK that still has members of the original founding family at the heart of it.

Walt Disney was descended from Norman Irish or Hiberno-Irish stock, Normans who moved to Ireland. In Ireland there was a joke that these immigrants were considered more Irish than Irish natives themselves after a generation or so as they willingly completely assimilated into Irish culture, both Protestant and Catholic. So Walt was probably more of Irish ancestry than French or English, he clearly felt that more as he explored this artistically in some of his work.

Fun fact: Walt Disney died while my mother was pregnant with me and his wife died while I was pregnant with my daughter. Walt Disney is my 7th cousin 2x removed through my father's Underwood-Chafee line. :-)

Can you do my family? My 11th great-grandpa is Francis Sprague, he came over on the Anne in 1623. I can't trace back past the mid 1500s for some reason.

Francis Sprague was one of the richest men in the area, had the first liquor license in the New World, a son that served & died in one of the bloodiest massacres of King Philip's War. What became of my family's fortune hehe where did we go wrong .. or right?

To my shock, I have found out that I'm distantly kin to a lot of famous people, including Walt Disney. Of course, many many other people out there are also kin to him and others too. But, still, it's interesting and fun to find out who all we are kin to, even if it is distantly kin. Growing up, I never would have imagined finding out all of this.

One of my ancestors was Dorcas Peake, the elder daughter of Jonathan Peake who appears at 3:15. kind of interesting.

I find out that I am related to Rollo, the Viking that conquered Normandy, and I guess it makes sense that I am related to Charlemagne and William the Conqueror, so I am related to the Franks. I'm an English and French descent, and I am related to the Dickinson family, well, I’m not sure about relating to Emily Dickinson, but I might be related to Walt and Roy Disney as distant cousins.
