This affordable dive watch rocks, period

Here is my Orient Kamasu review (with the “green” dial). It's one of the best affordable dive watches out there, but how does this watch compare to the new Seiko 5 Sports? Is it the SKX replacement everyone has been looking for?

I have two Orient watches, The Bambino V4 and the Sun and Moon v3 Blue, and I love them, but I wanted something more casual with a metal band and I found the Kamasu Red.Stunning is how I would describe it and I love it. I'm sure there are better brands, but I really like Orient and their selection of styles, and mostly colors.

I've got the version with the rose gold bezel and coral blue dial and it's very, very beautiful indeed! Sapphire glass and a satisfying click and ease of the bezel turns make it one of my favorites. I do agree that the bracelet leaves a lot to be desired so that can just be a quick swap with another brand.

It took a year since I saw this review, but I finally bought this watch. I already had a blue Ray II and a blue Triton. A week after ordering the Kamasu (and before it arrived), I purchased a black Triton (since they are apparently being discontinued) and a blue Orient Star Diver. My other divers are a Citizen Promaster (BN0191-55L), a green Bulova Oceanographer (Devil Diver) 96B322 and a Glycine Combat Sub 42 Ambush (GL0079). Now that I have the Kamasu, I will probably give the Ray II to a friend.

Some months ago, I already got my Ray II in place of the never-loved SKX013, and... of course, it's enough to be better than SKX; this one was bulkier, less proportionate and obsolete than Mako and Ray II... In just a few years Seiko prices has grown for no reasons; on the other hand, Orient added a sapphire crystal to its wonderful new diver (Mako/Ray based). I will be always satisfied by my Solar Seikos, but, in this case, Orient is the winner.

Great review. 12 seconds fast would not disappoint at this price point. With that said I have about 15-20 watches at any given time and my two most accurate ones are the Orient Mako USA (Polar dial) at +1-2sec , and the Orient Star Classic at +3-4 sec. Unbelievable at this price. Next in line is my chrono cert Doxa 300 at a solid +4 sec, but its at x10 the cost of the Orients. I also agree and it pains me to say it because I am a huge Seiko fan, but value, quality, and specs of the Orients imo far surpasses the Seikos at these lower price points. My original Sumo runs at +6, multiple SKX's, the worst of the bunch in terms of accuracy is my 173 which runs close to +70 seconds, with all other models falling between +10-35 sec. I appreciate your channel and hard work.

PT111111 I have 35 modern wristwatches. I like to have them all to have the correct time, so that I can grab any one of them to wear without having to reset the time/date. My quartz watches are easy. The most any of the ones I wear is off is 3 seconds per week (most are less than 1 second off or exact) and I am not concerned about them stopping if I don’t wear them. (I do have a Seiko Kinetic which I give a shake once a week.) I actually wear my Triton every day since I wear it to bed. So, it stays wound. My other automatics do not get worn regularly so I will let them stop. It is just nice to know their winding status at a glance.

I love this watch so much to the point that I own 3 TBH the main gripes for me about this watch are 1) The clasp is too long for small wrist 2) The printed dial looks like a piece of cheap plastic under certain angle 3) Check your hand and bezel alignment 4) Lack of AR on crystal Other than that, it is a great hit and it makes me wonder why Seiko is even still a thing. Did I tell you that the F6922 has an accuracy rating of +25-15, which is on par with seiko 6R15? I'm pretty sure the 4R36 gets like +45-35 or something close

Wow it looks amazing! Many of the photos I’ve seen online made the dial look really dark, but it really pops in bright lighting. If Strapcode does a bracelet for the Kamasu I’m going to have to buy the green variant. Unfortunately the stock bracelet with a folded end links is just a let down. The dial’s hour markers remind me of my Citizen Excaliber (BN0100-51E). Orient kind of copied the design (if Citizen is even the original creator of this design), but it still looks great.

gorgeous watch you got there! For the specs, I thought it would have been at least around $400. You are right, this could might as well be a one watch collection! Definitely defeated the new Seiko 5.

To me your analysis is spot on: the Orient seems to be very good value for the money, just like Seiko used to, and the consistancy of time keeping suggests that it can be fairly easily be regulated into a decent accuracy, I certainly would buy this watch, although being a Seiko freak. Compliments du Danemark comme toujours Stig

Gorgeous dial! I'm considering this as my everyday and outdoor field watch. Would love to see how this compares with the Orient Star Outdoor with the slightly smaller dial but longer lug-to-lug for a fellow slender wrister!

You were very kind in your assessment of the bracelet...I won't be, it is horrible! Give me the Blue Ray 2 bracelet as a replacement any day of the week. I'm relatively new to the addiction and I've learned that while the dial is usually the main attraction, if the watch doesn't feel good on the wrist, I don't want to wear it no matter how attractive the dial. Which reminds me, Orient's description of their dial Kamasu "teeth" feels accurate to me. It's attractive yes, but very aggressive in nature..very sharp index at 12:00, very sharp hour and seconds hands. I have the Red Kamasu and like it. Love my Blue Ray II. Excellent review sir.

I bought my Kamasu a year ago while traveling in Japan. It is exactly like yours except the red/burgundy dial and made in Japan. Even the small misalignment of the bezel is the same as in your's watch. I got it with +15 spd which was quite disappointing, but I managed (with some luck) to regulate it to almost zero (I actually get ~5 sec/week!). I totally agree with your observations, especially it's ability to look good with different straps. My favorite one is a shark mesh that costs 10 USD in Amazon and looks great for any situation. Thanks for your good work with this review and the others!

I really like the look of this watch and am considering buying one, possibly the one you have reviewed which I think looks awesome. The other one I am thinking of is going for the red dial one which I have seen on another review on another channel. I won't be going for the black/gold one though as I have the Invicta Pro Diver which you have also reviewed. The accuracy on my Pro Diver is +3 seconds per day on average which is great straight out of the box. I also have the blue version of the Pro Diver which has an accuracy of around 4 seconds per day. The Seiko NH35A movement is great in those watches. Thanks for this review, I really enjoy watching your channel. Best wishes from here in the UK.
