This lady, Kimberly, was by far my favorite grocery audit. If I could nominate someone for the award, she would get it. She’s obviously not afraid of working hard to organize herself and to prep her foods from growing to processing packaging. I really take a lot of inspiration from Kimberly AND she is relatable.

My son is a nurse, when my husband had to be life flighted due to a heart problem, my son came home and said "lets pack our lunches for the next few days, we are not eating hospital food". I always have left overs so it was not a problem to pack a little cooler and off we went each day to the hospital.

Before "that thing" went around, our local hospital had a great cafeteria and I could stop in and get a substantial, very tasty meal for about $4.50. I didn't have health problems, but was working 10-hour days, and some days just did not want to cook at all. They also offered a huge croissant, over Filled with excellent egg, chicken or tuna salad on lettuce for $3.29, And they made the best hand-dipped milkshakes in this town. It was one of this small city's best kept secrets, mostly just staff knew about it and used it. Alas, those days are gone...

Tawra, Love your videos, this one imparticular. Just one thing - about the dog. They live on a farm, so they have no near neighbor,. and bigger dogs are great for security alerts and protection. People with nefarious intent are more hesitent to cross paths with a bigger dog. Dogs are great companions and I know from experience boost your spirits, give you purpose every day to get up and get moving. They also help you up when you fall and great to balance against when wobbly. I could not do without my big dog. Also, did you know you can feed your dog by making their food - cheaper & healthier than dry food and definitely cuts down on illness/vet costs. Thanks for all you do to share your amazing skills!

I recently watched a video about using shortening for candles. The gentleman placed the wicks ( he used beeswax candles which are longer than birthday candles) directly into the container of shortening. DON'T DO THIS!! The containers are no longer metal, they are now made of waxed cardboard and will catch on fire if the flame gets low enough. Melt the shortening enough to pour into a glass container, stick in fridge until solidified, put the small candles in and you've got a safe candle.

Here a tip for all those who are storying pantry like the soda can boxed etc... like buying the store shelf ie: tunna packets grab the shelf box and all that left dont leave the empties take them home use them in pantry and really cool tip use either spray oaint or brush paint use primer then the colors you like and take a lable off a can and then use a water sealent primer and or can use a glue that dries clear and it will help the cardbord not to become musty moldy affect and it free to use also if you want you can find like tiny bottle caps to glue on to raise them up just a bit to give air flow to keep everything from moisture... moisture is how can begin to rust or mold so get those in camper section find for keep moister i forget name of them and to help keep bugs away sasha of the spices and herbs that detoyr naturaly insexts spiders etc... no chemical mess around your foid storages and if you got a root celler cedar and pine needles help sometimes... still always once a month at least esoecially in root cellers go and sweep and clean each can dusting isn't just for furnature as my granny said growing up... hope this helps i'm not able do all these fancies yet it nice see y'all do like my family did before they passed on.... thanks take care everyone sorry my post so long

I got that computer cabinet at Office Depot 15 years ago. it was a floor model that had slight damage and I got it for 60 bucks. When we were no longer using it for the computer I stored blankets and stuff in it and then when I started stockpiling food and needed extra space that’s when I came up with the idea to use that cabinet.

I don't do instant coffee just because it's more expensive to make larger amounts. The best thing we have started is "cold brew" coffee, it's so much cheaper. We bought a large 1 gallon glass jar with built in strainer. 1-2 cups ground coffee per 1 gallon water. Let it sit in the fridge or counter for 24 hours. (Then keep in fridge otherwise molds in about 4 days.) It has just as much caffeine as almost as much as hot brew due to the longer "brew" time. (Coffee grounds in with coffee longer.) Then coffee is ready all work week in the fridge.

I tried to watch the grocery audit videos when you first started doing them. They were too long & too choppy for me. This one was awesome. We’re 2 weeks from the end of 2023. I added up what I’ve spent on groceries for the year. I still have $24.65 per person that I can spend this year before I reach the average monthly spending of $75 per person. At this moment my grocery spending has been an average of $73 per person per month for 2023. I don’t think it will exceed $75 per person per month. The only way it would is if I find a great sale on something that we eat.

My parents had one of those put in the 1924 house they bought and updated in 1964. (Honestly, nothing had been updated since 1924. And that particular 40-year period had seen extraordinary changes, from appliances to cabinetry to telephone and electric!) A local cabinet-maker built it in place, with solid cherry wood exterior doors. It was my mother's pride and joy, (after us kids, of course), and it was called "the Cannarama" (so 1960s!). It was a genius use of space, still is.

Or, for the brilliant 12 can soda box storage idea, can take the label from a can & tape it on the outside of the box. At first when we were using powdered or instant coffee's the flavor was different than a fresh brewed cup, but tasters choice's coffees helped change that, and after you mix it with some cocoa, vanilla, hazelnut flavors, it's like having a homemade cappuccino so no worries there anymore. It's definitely cheaper to make a cup as you go than to brew a pot.

I use an inexpensive espresso maker, but use regular ground coffee. It's as fast as microwaving a cup of water for instant coffee. It's also cheaper and tastes much better.

I didn't know you've been doing this for 20 years! I've really missed out lol. And I did find one of your recipe books at a yard sale, I couldn't believe it! I had been wanting one and God provided. And because I gave food to their pantry, they gave me a credit so I could buy whatever.

I made my own chocolate sauce using 4 ingredients to give as gifts. I did add peppermint extract to one jar and orange extract to another. Two I left plain chocolate. So easy and good!

Oh my, Kimberly. I have never found another person who owns the 1970’s vintage metal “Flour” and “Coffee” canisters (@14:42). I bought the set of four when I moved into my first apartment during college. And? Am still using them for rice, quinoa, lentils, etc. (I now live in rural Nebraska. Think: Critters.)

I don’t know why people don’t use instant coffee either. I’ve had Keurig’s, Mr. Coffee, nonelectric drip coffee pots and I’ve gone back to instant coffee. I usually only drink one cup of coffee a day anyway so why take up a lot of counter space when I can use instant. I find I like it better. This was a great video with lots of great ideas. Oh, I got Diing on a Dime volume two and made the cranberry slow cooker roast and it was amazing. I’m going to try the fruit cake too for Christmas too

Love your videos! Looking forward to the “old prices”-video. I feel like you have done one or maybe even two of those before, but I have not been able to find them. I remember them as really inspiring and as a real kick in the but from you and Jill! 😅

I use some instant coffee- some instant is better than others. you can also make pour over coffee- a little cone you put in a coffee paper and just enough for cup coffee.

Hey Kimberly 👋🏻 I’m in Beloit, WI. I do have a Sam’s Club membership (hubby gets it free through work). I often find 90/10 ground beef marked down for $3.64/lb (for 4-5lb trays). I stock up when I see that price because I haven’t seen it that cheap anywhere around here lately, even when buying in bulk. For a while we were buying the $20 great value frozen hamburger patty pack from Walmart to use for all our ground beef needs, but the price shot up this year. Keep doing what you’re doing Kimberly because you are doing great!

Rock County Township! Hello neighbor! Thanks for the tip. I will have to check that out. Subscribed to your channel. I don’t have a live channel but I love watching other farms. We actually rent out our fields we don’t actually farm them. But we do love the rural lifestyle. We escaped Aurora, south of Chicago, almost 20 years ago, and have never regretted it.

Wow, that lady has it all together! I also had your old paperback cookbook, Not Just Beans. But sadly I misplaced it when we moved. ( I know it's somewhere in this house. I would not have thrown it away) I am going to start packing my car with some snack foods. Today I was driving home from my kids ( a two and half hour drive) I have fibro and RA and was getting really tired and hungry. So I stopped at a Big Boys ( not a fancy place) and got a philly beef sandwich with a coffee...cost me over $20.00, not including a tip! crazy!

Have you ever considered doing a show with food recall updates. Thought it might help those who have short to long term pantries make sure nothing is recalled.

Regarding dogs...Mine was a fuzzy little puppy when I got her. She just kept growing to 110 pounds. She sometimes wants to sit in my lap but can't fit so only half of her can be in my lap. She will probably eat better than me if something really goes wrong. She knows when someone is coming long before I do so I figure that is her security pay.
