TOILET TIP: If you need a toilet and the water is off, drain your toilet one last flush. Sponge out clean water in the bowl. Lift seat, place a plastic bag in your toilet, wrap over the rim. Close the lid. Sit down on your usual toilet. Remove the bag and dispose of, at your discretion. No need to sit on an emergency bucket if you don't have to.

Great tip! I like to have the emergency bucket in our basement, where there is no toilet, just in case we're down there for an extended amount of time

Questions: Why is it necessary to drain the bowl if you are using a plastic bag anyway? Also if your water is off, the water in the tank is as close to drinkable/usable water as you can get unless you have a super filter system - why would you want to drain that? Just curious...

We live out in the country and since our well pump is electric, we often have situations where we don't have electricity (or water) for hours to days at a time. We keep multiple gallon jugs of tap water (rinsed-out empty milk jugs) in each bathroom and only flush when necessary. We also keep jugs of water handy for filling dog bowls and rinsing things in addition to our stored drinking water. Another thing we have found useful--available online--rechargeable lightbulbs. We have one in each area without windows to make navigation easier.

@@racheldeen3667 When your water is off, and you use your toilet 1 last time, your tank is empty. There will be a small amount of water in the bowl, which you can't flush out until your water comes back on. IF you place a bag in your toilet, the bag will go down in the possibly contaminated water. When you lift out your bag, you will be dripping the possibly contaminated water onto your floor & carpets.Unless you just cleaned and sanitized your bowl before your last flush, the several inches in your bowl will be contaminated even slightly where you wouldn't want to drink it.

We have kept extra toilet paper and paper towels for several years prior to 2019. Christmas of 2019 one son and DIL didn't know what to buy us or her mother for Christmas so they go us a case size of paper towels and toilet paper. Everyone laughed at the family Christmas but guess what we never had to buy during the great toilet paper shortage in 2020.

IF you have some time on your hands and concerned about water use and fuel consumption... you can reduce the amount of water used and energy needed to prepare pasta by pre soaking the pasta for about 2 hours , then the noodles are more or less soft and have absorbed some of the water , just heat for about 1/3 of the time you'd normally boil pasta and eat.

I spent 18 months without any electricity 🔌. I have watched many videos of folks talking about what is needed in a power outage and most of what they say is inaccurate or unrealistic. Yours is the best video on this topic that I have seen bar none! I had to learn most of what you are sharing the hard way, many cold nights , no way to cook food, etc. I learned what was needed along the way and I can say that if people listen to you they will be in a far better position to survive. Having a way to heat water to wash your body and clothes, to cook a hot meal, and to stay warm is everything. Thank you so much for this very informative video.

Coleman camp shower (thick black plastic bag) heats water in the sun for a quick shower. Other options could be giant plastic shake or giant food containers in black set out in the sun to heat. These are what we used to heat water when we were without hot water for a week after SuperStorm Sandy.

Also bring your calculator. I was at Walmart last week and saw this amazing unit price on the canned beef (2.50lb). Instead of the two I had planned to add to my stores I thought maybe I need to get them all at this price. Wait a second. If the 12 oz can is over $4 it is not $2.50 a pound. I broke out the calculator and it was closer to $6 a pound. I did still get my 2 but not the case I was ready to buy at 2.50 a pound.

Great video! I have almost all of them. Besides the Coleman stove, I also bought a small charcoal grill and over the past year (when it was much cheaper), I stocked up on charcoal. I did realize a few weeks ago that I didn't get lighter fluid! It's on my list! A portable toilet is also something I need to look in to. I do have a urinal (yes, they make them for women), and it always botheted me that in 45 years as a nurse, I never saw one in the hospital for female patients. We ( yes, I have been a patient, too) always had to deal with a bedpan, which migjt not be a bad thing in case someone is incapacitated. OK, enough "potty talk" 😊. You brought up some good points. Thank you for sharing your tips.🛒

I’m hooked on your channel…. I’ve been a subscriber but I’m binge watching it. YOU, my dear, have very reasonable opinions on HOW to start to prep, WHY we should start to prepare, WHERE we can find various items, WHAT are different shelf stable foods from 1 year-5year-20 to 30 year. PLUS…. Making a Menu Plan with recipes. Not excluding GENIUS meals in a Jar…. I REALLY cannot wait to see more of these.

I live in a very small Georgia town but next to a military post (largest one east of Mississippi. Our little town boasts a super WM, and 2 neighborhood markets. 2 Dollar Trees, 4 Dollar General within 10-15 minutes driving, Family Dollars so buying on a budget isn't hard. I keep a price journal so I know where the best prices are and plan my shopping trip accordingly. To be frugal you really need to know prices AND package sizes.

This was very worthwhile video as yours always are. I go to Walmart often but half the stuff you found in the Sporting section I never thought of. Also the shelves in your store were much fuller than ours. I do go often enough to get some one time and others the next. I have learned so much from this channel. Thanks for sharing!!🛒

Some Walmarts will be low or out for two reasons people shop a lot and buy in large amounts and/or the management do not order bigger quantities to stay on top of things I work at a Walmart and if we need 3 cases to replace we will order 9 cases

I ate a lot of15 bean soup growing up. You can put it over rice ,lentils or quinoa. Also, you can separate out of the broth...but don't throw it away. It's a good starter for a Buddha bowl without the broth.

Hello, stopping in as a newbie! Just put together a WM order for delivery next week. Good place to find the staples and canned goods/bisquits for my pup's pantry! All the best! Oh... 2 miles away at best, but delivery due to selling car in 2021 to start preparing. Don't say it... I had 5 payments left and it was my pride/joy! I was called and guided to begin. Peace

I buy the Walmart canned beans and 5 cans at a time. Then, I dehydrate them. I do have bags of regular dry beans stored in mylar bags also. But I loved having the instant beans. They are great to just add a handful to my homemade canned soups.

My closest Walmart is about 10 minutes away but it’s NOT a Super Center so it doesn’t have the cold/frozen groceries. I also have the Walmart + so I get free delivery from the app which I do ALOT (actually have a delivery coming in the next couple hours lol). The prices are still pretty decent although they’ve gone up a bit but that’s happening everywhere.

I have two Walmart's pretty close...one is only a mile and a half from me and the one a little further, 11 miles but only 17 minutes to drive and it is bigger and much nicer. I also buy a lot of Nido even tho it is a little more expensive but I think better. Thanks as always....I have missed a few videos lately bc very busy myself making sure everything is in order.....🛒

You probably know, but the vinegar is not the acidity it should be at Walmart. You have to use 5% to make it long term safe. The GV brand is 4, so beware. Also, the bleach. You shouldn't use low splash bleach for disinfecting water. Just the plain bleach with nothing added to it. Like you said, a pinch of pool shock per gallon of water is good. If you want to cross reference anything, I've discovered Rose Red. She's a college professor in organic chemistry....a tad bit on the 'very specific' side for detail, but if you're patient and like to listen to detail, she's your girl.

I like your video and I do prep. I stock up every chance I can and I also preddure can food . I stock up on salt and sugar for trading if needed. Canned meat is great because the cooking time is almost non existant. I put my rice abd dried beans in canning jars and just vacuum seal them uncooked. Bugs cant live with no oxygen. I like too keep as much food in reserve as I can and ,unfortunatly ,I have 2 full freezers that, if the power goes down for more than a few weeks I have too eat a lot of frozen food. I have a whole house generator that will run 2 weeks non stop. I dont think there will be a way too refill the propane tank if it runs out and things get real but I also have a solar generator thatI can get by with as long as the sun is out. I can recharge from sunlight. Don't forget fuel cans for your vehicles. In an emergency you might need too bug out and gas can be a life saver. You can get items too put in the gas too keep it from going stale. And dont forget the ammo.
