The Wilsonian Movie Museum's Guide to Making a Magnet Steelbook Wall

Фильм және анимация

Hey Everyone. Thanks for tuning in to this quick guide on how I create my super cool Steelbook walls. Hopefully this will help anyone looking to do the same with their movie steelbooks... after all, steelbooks are far too beautiful to keep on a shelf 😁.
For anyone looking to purchase the magnets - this is where I get mine from here in Australia:
www.officeworks.com.au/shop/o...
The ultra strong Scotch tape can be sourced from any good local hardware/DIY store.
Thanks for watching.

    Hi. Regarding removing the magnets... Try using fishing line to cut the tape loose. Wrap the ends of the line around something hard and work it back and forth to cut the tape. Don't wrap it around yourself and cut your skin.

    Hello, the magnets say they are only rated for 8 sheets of paper (in weight) which is at least 1/4 of what a steelbook weighs, are you sure you haven't had any issues with steelbooks slipping or falling? I want to put plastic steelbook protectors over my steelbooks and I think the resistance and weight may be too much for these magnets.

At that time, I searched high and low for these specific magnets, but, strangely, could never find them on Amazon, eBay, or even the three by three website. It appears that they are only available through officeworks.com/au

    Stupid Question.... Have you seen any negative long term effects that the magnets have on the actual film disk?

  • @wilsonianmoviemuseum8420

    @wilsonianmoviemuseum8420

    4 жыл бұрын

    None John. I did a bit of research before doing my first magnet wall and unless it's like an industrial grade super magnet, the discs are fine. The data is burned to surface of the discs in a non magnetic way so general magnets have no negative effects on them. Now if I was sticking up floppy discs that would be a different story 🤣

    I've gotten into collecting steelbooks of my favorite movies and have about 60 now. I love your display solution, I've scoured the internet and like your's is by far the best and my favorite. However, I can't find the 3"x3" Spot-On magnets you show, and I've looked everywhere in the U.S. All the magnets I find I fear will scratch my steelbooks. I continue my search but meanwhile, my steelbooks sadly remain stored away in boxes, which is a real shame. :(

    @@mikeworkman1759 I abandoned it for the time being, but I did buy a bunch of 18" long magnet bars from Amazon to mount onto the walls or sides of book cases, and professional grade rubber electrical tape to tape over the magnets to avoid scratches. I believe it will work but can't say for sure, until I take on the project. :~)

    Just use some type of thin paper table cloth, gift paper or even a post-it note. The magnets you'd use (strongest you can find really) should be strong enough that it won't affect them staying on the wall and it'd prevent any scratches
