So if your looking for a video point, what would happen in Microsoft or Sony would stop making consoles. If either Sony or Microsoft had the only console on the market ... or they both started working together and made a super console where both Playstation and Xbox exclusive where on one console.. I'd love to hear your take on it

When I use to work at GameStop, whenever we’d get games traded in that were steel book editions, I’d sell those first to customers who bought pre owned cause I figured it’d be pretty cool to get a free steel book case with a pre owned game.

Still hate that the Gorillaz did that for their Plastic Beach album. I mean I GET why they did it, considering the message the album was trying to get across, and having a regular CD case would be counter-productive, but still.

I like the collector’s edition of Resident Evil 4 for the GameCube. The steel case covers the regular case of the game. It includes a lithograph of a character and a mini game guide. Game manuals definitely need to be brought back.

Steelbooks got me back into collecting movies again. I threw away all of my plastic cases years ago to fit all my movies into one of those 500 sheet books for dvds, but within the last few years I've built up a small collection of some of my favorite movies on Steelbook

I'm a big physical media collector, so I love a good steelbook for the art. I've always preferred digibooks though, (not sure if any games do this, but lots of movies do.) In my opinion, that's the ultimate premium package because the disc is packed in a book full of great information and photos, I've even seen comic books! I wish games would move in that direction. Only downside is that, like steelbooks they aren't as durable and the edges get messed up sometimes.

I do this with games, games that have stories and are an “experience” I get a Steelbook version if I can. Other games and multiplayers games I just have a online library

I miss manuals too. I still have the N64 ones I got as a kid.

Mmmmmmmm, used to love the smell of a fresh manual.

With my Steelbooks, that card they glue to the case with all the movie info on them. I cut the edges down enough for them to fit inside the case. That way, you get to have the info on the movie you can refer to. At least the most important info.

So nice to have this room back in view.

I mean the Take Your Heart Edition came with the sound track, it was only like $79 for a special edition it was one of the better value ones I’ve bought. I do whole heartedly agree about giving out bonuses with regular game editions though, that feels it would add a lot of value to going out and buying these games new.

If you loan them out you should put the disk in a regular case

One tip for saving that information about the movie/game on the cardboard surrounding that is glued to the case would be to take a picture of the cardboard with your phone and store it on your computer. You could create a folder called "Steelbook Cases" and store all of your images in that. Name each image with the name of the movie/game, then you have a quick-access virtual database of your information that you might otherwise lose.

I wish that all games had bonus things like stickers and patches. Basically I want most games to have goodies like big box PC games of the 1980s and 1990s

I have the mirror's edge catalyst steelbook and bruh it's so hard to get the disc out of the case I feel like I'm gonna snap the disc everytime

you still have to learn alot my youngling.There are alot things to secure your steelbook 5sec google. Depending on what you buy (on the movie side) you can get a shitload of money when they are in collectors condition (idk in the US but in Germany the first Gurdians of the Galaxy Steelbook goes for 70-100€). And other formats are stuff like so called Mediabooks (only the limited from small labes can go up in price when you have the right cover artwork) And there are probably alot other i cant remember right know. You dont just put them onto the shelf to the others you place them the way that you can see the Cover Artwork (friend has half a wall full of steels and it looks great) There are also Futurepacks here someone explained the difference kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4KGsdGzlNvUdNY.html Just the Gamer market for Steels is not so good cause they are made often in alot more quantities probably.

They did sell the steelbook by itself for a bit. A friend of mine bought that and gave it to me later. The ultimate edition for both releases did come with a Soundtrack as well as other little items.

When I pre-ordered DMC4, I got the first disc for the anime with the steelbook...

The thing that drives me nuts about the lack of manual is all those cases still have the flap to hold in the thing you no longer get. Like it seems redundant to not just have it flat instead of having a flap to hold in nothing.

How about the fact that offers nothing but just takes up space. Also the fact that people are never look at them again. The sit the shelf and all you see is spin. Completely useless.

I have a steelbook for the Latest ESO DLC....and its actually USEFUL in that it holds the Coins from the whole physical collection. and it looks cool. Other ones I have just have great artwork and dont have any use for them lol

SWEET HAT DUDE. I'm more in a position where I want to make custom steelbooks/whatever as gifts for others. I would love for more stuff like the collector's edition Hotline Miami which has premium extras.

I recently bought a few steel books for a few movies I REALLY enjoy. I feel like I wouldn't buy steelbooks for all of my movies but every now and then if its a movie I love or the art is really cool I would get the steel book. Also I rip all my movies so it's not like Im going to be opening and closing the case a lot causing more wear and possibilities for dents.

That is actually a solid idea. I’d get mind-hacked into getting a lot more games than I actually want or play. All for that steel book. That’s a game changing idea, no joke

For future people watching, I found that whatever is in the steel book is also in the original edition, games and show series and movies just come with the stuff that’s it now, I do agree that they should add game manuals and information to them inside for all editions

Steelbooks look way cooler than regular cases on a shelf. Worth the extra $10-$20.

One thing that bugs me about Steelbooks is that they often don't come with slipcovers. What makes this more baffling is that best buy now sells them stand alone without the game. The problem with this is that because they have slipcovers, the steelbooks will just look out of place on your shelves. One steelbook that I love but hate at the same time is the Kingdom Hearts 3 Steelbook that came bundled with the deluxe edition. On one hand I love it because of how cool it looks, but on the other hand I hate how it doesn't come with a slipcover. Because of that I just keep the game in the standard game case.

I remember my first Steelbook was the Resident Evil 4 Premium Edition for the PS2. I mostly stick with Steelbook movies, games I'm not hell bent on getting every one.

2:05 Digibook, Metal pack, foldable, record set, Jewel Case. 3:36 Yeah, that's what the J Card is for which you tosses out. Which of course slides inside the cover. Even has hinges to hold it inside.

I have some steels books mosley because I bought them used. There cool I guess though I don't really go out of my way to buy them. My favourite that I own has to be the SimCity 2013, it even has 3D art work on the protective sleeve

I always try to take care of my stuff, but my Forza Motorsport 4 case is starting to rust in spots around the edges and spine. I've also had to buy more than 1 game again because taking it in and out of a steelbook cracked the center of the discs.

Witcher 3 physical edition reminded me of big box PC games from the '80s and '90s

I got the normal plastic case Persona 5 and it came with a cool ass controller skin that’s super nice. I have it on a ps4 controller still

Vertical slipcases are such a pain. If only steelbooks had the sort of external slipcases that blu rays sometimes have.

I like steelbooks, they can be. Very pretty and show you how the games art is, though I only get them if the game allows it or comes with it when I order it, other then that i can understand why people dont like them sometimes

I find them pretty cool, like for one of the collector editions of course that come with stuff. Like I want a complete halo game collection of the steel books that are available because they are pretty neat I think

I actually have two matter of fact one for the force unleashed 2 signed by Sam Witwer and Yakuza 6 Song of Life I loved them both

I only own 1 steel book and that is because that was the only format Persona 5 Royal came in. That said its pretty nice and came with a really cool PS4 Theme for Persona 5. I didn't really check out the case too much at first, but the more I was looking at it the more I realized it closes awkwardly if you don't line it up just right. It is really pretty though, and if the original game came in a nicer case I might have hesitated before trading it in for this one.

But I 100% agree with you bringing back the game Emmanuel at least and a few are like knickknacks maybe just like a few stickers and if it’s got an in-depth world to the game just something to give you the overall lower and the map that would be cool or how about thiswhen you open up your game, your game case is some sort of clear blue or green depending if you have Xbox or PlayStation behind the cover that could be your map

When the yakuza kiwami and kiwami 2 steelbooks came out they were so cool I also I will admit the paper losing is very annoying. But I haven't bought a steelbook for a long time I think my last one was yakuza kiwami 2. But most of the steelbooks I bought at a very cheap prices if it was over $25 for a movie I'd say no to it. They're cool but yea some can suck.

I only own a few steel books and I got all of them except one from day one purses. More or less of first come first serve type thing.

I don't have many of those in my collection. I did have Doom 3 on the original xbox that looked really nice. Currently I do have the beloved...Last Jedi in steel book which probably would probably benefit not having its title on the cover LOL!!!!

I have completely switched to digital games it just save spaces and you don't have worry to take game disk everywhere you go you just need your console that's it easy and no brainer plus you have all the data of your playtime and all sweet things so i think digitalization would be the next big think to come and game companies might introduce Nft as a token of purchasing the game that would be cool.

Thanks for the video. I have over 900 Steelbooks, in my movie collection. When Bestbuy & Zavvi, come out with new Steelbooks, and I only have the DVD copy of the movie....I upgrade to the Steelbook. In my opinion, I think that you are indeed correct. Some of the Steelbooks, that are for sale, are just so plain, and not worth the money. The 'Digi-book', is the best value for our money (i.e.: Pics of the movie/actors, sometimes script pages, and all of the info, that we'd like to have, that Steelbooks definitely lack), and if I have the option to purchase the Digi-book, I'll always pick that over the Steelbooks. In closing.....yes, collecting Steelbooks, is a drug (Ha!).

I was gonna say thats not really fair Fanta. the Persona 5 Collector's Edition came with all of that stuff in the box. The soundtrack, Plush, Art Book, and it came with a Bag as well. The box was huge and I know cause I bought it. Also, your preface at the end of the day about the Day 1 Steelbook, is that was the Day 1 bonus for the Persona 5 Standard Edition. Love your vids, but thats a little bit of false advertising.

I did actually haha they took a TON off the back and quite a bit off the front. Just doesn't look any different which is the way I like it.

I like steelbooks but I don't NEED to own every game and movie in one. I'll usually get like a movie series in one. Like I have The Die Hard series in a steelbook that contains all the movies or one that has Predator 1 2 and Predators in a single steelbook.

Hmm well I think you should be mentioning that the "super ultra deluxe editions " usually don't only come with a steel book. Persona5's largest edition did not only come with a steel book. Thats false advertising haha P5 The Royal actually did do it how you said. The launch edition is a steel book. And qll the other editions came with the steel book and other items. Imo I like steelbooks. But not to store my games in lol. I like how square Enix includes a regular plastic case with their steel book editions. Since I just like them to display.

Kingdom Hearts 3 did the same thing as well for the deluxe edition. I wish the steelbooks came with slipcovers.

A year late but yeah I am slowly growing a video game steelbook collection and this video does cover some of my issues with them. It should be standard for them to come with a outer sleeve mainly Sega/Atlus does this but SE and 4Agames have done it too. But recently Best Buy alongside Scanavo have been releasing preorder/purchasable standard style steelbooks no sleeves even for Sega games ( Yakuza LaD and Persona 5 Strikers come to mind). I often just find myself buying the standard copy alongside the limited editions that come with a steelbook only to get the title on box art and what not. Annoying really.

Only time I get steel books are when best buy has them for free with preorders, then they are worth it, some games that's all you get for a preorder and steel books aren't that bad when your saving 20 dollars or so on them and just buying the game you on were already gonna buy.

Tp me for certain movies it's very cool if I'm already going to be buying at full price on release day what's another $5? I really only buy my favorite movie franchises at full price wnyway like John Wick, Deadpool Etc. The same thing applies to the games I buy, most games I wait for a sale but if I'm already buying something full price and the steel book is in stock yeah I go for it.

When i need a new case for anything from a cd to a movie i buy a crappy movie or cd at a thrift store and chuck out the inferior and use the case. they usually only sell them for a buck or less so it's not a big deal.

Steelbooks look cool but a plastic case is still the premium way to store games. Easier to replace, not easy to scratch or bent and it just need to have good artwork or an option to have a different case color than blue. I do agree that manuals need to comeback!

My Persona 5 Royal steelbook was ten dollars less the the regular because Gamestop is Wild. I would have bought it on Best buy but it sold out saddly.

I'm a huge steelbook fan, but will restore l rarely spend more than 10 compared to the base product. I 100% agree about a need for a plastic sleeve talking about special features, etc, because the cardboard card (known as a j-card) is a complete joke, and they are never really worth keeping around. I have roughly 50 steelbooks across my switch, PS4, and movie collection, compared to the total number of items being over 800. They are really pretty to see, but not fully worth the hassle.

I do like steelbook editions they are better looking than the plastic cases.

Unfortunately you’re basing your opinion on some really lame Disney Steel books. There’s companies such as Synapse Films, Arrow Video and Blue Underground that go to EXTREME lengths to give collectors amazing steel book editions of movies. Typically they come with 2-3 discs one of which is the sound track of the film. They also include booklets that have even more additional information about the movie and other fun stuff. Nice video man! I totally get your point about the dents and scratches though!

I hate it when they sell the steel book and it has none of the special features other deluxe editions do. It feels like half of a deluxe edition

I like steel books and the reason why is partly dictated because I have an Xbox series X and for some reason Microsoft the standard game cases the discs are on the left and they’re also kind of difficult to get out. I feel like I’m going to break the desk however, a steel case put it back on the right and it’s easier for me to get the desk out and it feels like it’s not going to break And the cover that comes with the steel case I quite like it, it’s not much but I do like it. Also I think the standard cases the plastic that are made out of has gotten cheaper. And be perfectly honest I actually preferred the steel book edition, not because it looks slightly nicer on shelf although true, it’s not the reason why I’m buying a steel book. I’m buying a steel book because I like how it’s packaged up I can get my desk in and out easier And typically it has less corporate stuff all over my game

Game manuals and strategy guides are from a bygone era unfortunately. I generally take pretty good care of them, but I foolishly took pictures from my PM64 guide for artwork as a kid.

Doesnt matter what stickers, steelbook, or soundtrack your game includes, gamestop will still only give you 50 cents.

I know the Resident Evil movie franchise pretty much sucked after the 2nd one, but I managed to buy all 6 of the Steelbooks of Resident Evil for under £60 from my local CEX store also got both Ted movies in Steelbooks for under £15. Steelbooks are dirt cheap off the main CEX site too

Steel books and collectors editions aren't really things I go out of my way to obtain. I generally get them only if the regular version isn't available and the price difference isn't too crazy (no more than $10 extra). Perhaps because I get only the less expensive ones when the regular version is not available, I've found steelbooks and collectors editions to be sub par. The steelbooks often feel cheap and flimsy with a glued on cardboard insert. The collectors editions tend to either be missing items or misrepresent the items (you expect epic cool stuff and instead its cheaply made merch that falls apart if you breathe in its general direction). I do miss the actual printed out instruction manuals. Having to go online to refresh my memory on basic controls is just stupid. Also, many instruction manuals were fun with a lot of character art, back story, etc thrown in. Some even gave the instructions in theme with the game, pulling you into the game world before you even put the cartridge into the system. The online version, by comparison, feels like a minimum viable product that was phoned in.

Without a barcode how are you supposed to sell the Steelbook to a gameshop.

Not many games need them, but some like x4 foundations (if it ever came out on cd/dvd), would totaly need a 100 page manual.

For me, the problem is when game comes with steelbook and a wide sleeve and all that crap. Then I will keep game in normal case because it’s way more practical. Steelbook on steelbook section of a case and sleeve with extras in other place. And guess what? I will never ever reach for steelbook because they are too easy to scratch and rough. I am done with wasting money.

With steelbooks, they waste the whole left side of the case to hold paperwork that 99% off the time doesn't exist. Yet the thing that matters, the discs, get stacked on top of each other on the right!?
