The "picture within a picture within a picture" cover artstyle is called double exposure! In case you wanted to know/find similar artwork

The "ships VS ships" rules found in this book is the only missing rule in the main book for any and all NPC VS NPC situations. The basic rulebook simply state that the higher level one win, end of story, but that leave no option for when you want a random resolution wich incompensate the level difference between the NPCs. This way, a summoned spider by an adept/magic flavoured character has a roll VS the T-Rex it's master is fighting against, making the player that own said spider feel involved instead of just asking "does she dies or does she auto-win?" Great book, great video too, as always.

That’s the one thing I really don’t like about Cypher because it makes summoned creatures MUCH less useful, game mechanics-wise. Especially give that many summoner type Foci cap your summoned creatures at a low level, like at tier six you get to have a level 4 familiar, but that’s not useful as a capstone ability when you’re supposed to be the equivalent of a level 20 character in 5E, and you’re facing challenges of level 10 (or higher depending on the setting). Summoned creatures in Cypher are either OP or trash, but never in between where they’re useful but not overpowered.

Ah yes, my favourite of the white books. Probably because Sci-Fi is my jam. Although I gotta say Claim the Sky is a close second for me. Once Rust and Redemption is out though, that'll probably bump to my #2

Yeah I definitely need to get my group to try this system at some point. Looks very straightforward and well designed.

Im real late and this has probably already been said, but ship-to-ship battling with bullets is both realistic and likely the most practical way to do it

Just found your channel. I love the cypher system, and I am a huge traveller fan, have been since 1987. The cypher system blends well for traveller type games, and the tech level system is obviously inspired by traveller.

For me, Cypher is cleanly designed that as long as one holds to that clean style one can often get close to where the designers go in the revised edition sourcebooks. Of course, letting them do a bunch of the legwork does help so each of the revised era genre books is great. The Stars are Fire is also a great technical manual for a lot of equipment - among other things. They begin by covering genre elements, move to space travel and space combat then the technical manual followed by scifi monster/threats then onto a very cyberpunky "Firefly meets The Expanse with a slice of Blade Runner and another tiny slice of Event Horizon" setting. I find the setting greatly compelling. Edit: some of the scifi subgenre settings were covered in The Strange if one wants more of them, so buy more MCG books!

This one is pretty relevant for me :) my cypher game will have a theme where the world is like a multiversal lost and found. Random junk and ruins from any conceivable universe. Taking some inspiration from the Loki series & others

I was thinking about picking this up at one point in time... now even if Monte Cook Games apologizes for the stunt it pulled with First Responders, I don't think I'd pick up The Stars are Fire. Looks like about half of the page count is given over to a setting that I don't think I ever saw anyone outside of the developers play. And the half I'm interested in, I either already know how to do or makes me wonder what cereal box the writers got their English degree off of.
