Learning the Cypher System is Super Easy, Barely an Inconvenience. I started with Numenera 10 years ago and this is still my favorite game/system/setting.

Gods of the Fall is very darkly specific fantasy setting, post-apocalyptic in its way. Godforsaken is more universal fantasy.

Hilarious is that most of the fantasy I found in the book, I deduced from reading the core Revised Cypher Rulebook. Not a knock on Godforsaken as much as proof of how solid MCG's Cypher system was designed. Been loving my whole Cypher collection. The dual Descriptor sidebar is vital. The Ritual magic rules - I swiped and added to Stay Alive as it also fit the horror genre as well, and better even than the idea of "spells."

Yeah there isn't persé a lot of 'new' stuff in Godforsaken, it's more a guide on how to use the Cypher System to build your more typical Fantasy Character and Campaign. That's what I love about it. Me and Mss.T have been rolling characters with the core rulebook and having Godforsaken on the side just to get those solid tips.

I came about this book a few weeks ago and it became a fundamental pillar for my Shadowrun: Powered by the Cypher System project. Plus I hope it tempts my group to ditch D&D once and for all. But that will take more time.

@@MrTarrasque I love the aggressive play suggestion but I'm not the DM. I just run for them a Numenera oneshot and they didn't like it because they were hoping to understand the game by just barely taking a look at the character sheet. But now one of them took my recommendation of using the Cypher System to make their own setting, which is a sort of post-apocalyptic Shadowrun intertwined with some D&D lore. So I handed him the Godforsaken book. I play the long game.

@@MrTarrasque personnal suggestion for your next cypher read (you do you, I'm just telling my take to help if you're not sure where to go next, but you're a big Tarrasque now): the Stars are Fire : sci-fi, yes, but you get much of the NPC VS NPC resolution options from this book and it's a good take on "out-of-the-box" options Stay Alive: Horror themes, here we go! can be used in all universes, from prehistoric shamanic possession from an entity of the beyond, to the classical zombie invasion of your everyday live to the Alien that came out of your passanger's belly and grew 9-12 feet long and has 2 mouths (one inside the other) have a good one, you god-send, spell-reflecting-shell reptile of cataclysmic destruction ;)

This actually was your best Cypher System vid, but you did get the Species descriptors a little wrong they are usually used as sub descriptor, so you can have two like is a "Inquisitive, Gnome who..."

Nice, comprehensive video about Godforsaken. As an alternative to D&D or Pathfinder, I find that the Cypher System is a superior d20-based TTRPG system. While still class and level-based, the plug-and-play nature of making your own character class blows D&D out of the water. The core rules also do a really good job at being transparent while allowing the PCs to, by and large, attempt whatever they want. The vast amount of abilities can clash with that, however, as the presence of an ability excludes the possibility of doing what the ability does without having it, which I find both slows pacing and can be contradictory to the freeform skill system.

I have been GMing a ton of Cypher lately and dont find that last bit to be true for my group(s). If anything, the system invites much more random stuff to happen during the game

I have the opposite opinion of this book. I found it to be almost useless. It didn't give enough of anything. A few cyphers and some uninspired monsters. I did find the equipment section useful and find myself using this. Overall it felt like a lot of money for little
