I remember this story. Up to Ash being hospitalized. So much more came out. At 1 point I thought it's a miracle that Ash didn't turn out to be a serial killer. At least now everyone is getting the therapy/support that's long overdue. I wasn't surprised at Ted's attempt. Honestly I thought it would happen sooner. There are people in this world that Belong with a particular person. I believe OP belongs with Ted. They gravitate to each other. There's a saying: Time brings you to where you have always been intended to be.

There's a difference between being in love and loving someone. It's ok to love him. You share so much history. Ted seems to be disassociating a lot of things right now. He needs someone to check in on him. And someone to talk to. He's never going to find another person who has been through this trauma. So you should be a support group of two

The first thing an abused child learns is to not show emotion. To compartmentalize the experiences that cause the emotion. I think Ted experienced something called flooding. Which means all the compartments opened up at once and all of those pent up emotions came pouring out. People are particularly vulnerable when that happens. I'm sure he's having to learn how to deal with emotions in a healthy way now because he was never taught before and neither were his brothers. The longer you go with those compartments intact the worse the flooding will be

Among Ash and Ted, it's no wonder OPs ex in-laws all blamed her for the fallout. They were all abusers, mil was the biggest enabler, as well as gaslighter, and OP standing up for herself and enforcing boundaries showed those in-laws what a healthy environment and relationship(s) should be.

Am I crazy or does Ted sound like a pretty good dude? OPs updates hint at a lot of Ted hate, but he really doesn’t sound that bad. He def has his issues, but he seems like a dude who tries to be good to people and feels bad when he causes them trouble. He seems like someone who tries. I dont know… maybe it’s just me

I agree... he honestly didn't deserve having so many people hating on him. All of Ted's siblings are a product of their upbringing, some managed to own up to their parts in their childhood, and that showed with OP talking about the brothers that stepped up to actually help and try and make things right. As bad as what OP went through, and I am not dismissing her trauma, Ted was traumatised as well, and his entire family imploded from almost every deep dark secret being dragged kicking and screaming into the light

My father was ten years younger than his brothers. They pushed him off a cliff when he was 7 among other things. He hasn’t murdered any cats over it.

After hearing that, I wouldn't blame him for killing at least ONE of his brothers. The mil in the story really did fail all her kids, and it makes me wonder how any of them made it to adulthood. P.S. I hope your dad is NC and living his best life

This story is so sad to me... I really wish the best for OP As much as I feel for Ted, him keeping OP at arm's length the way he has isn't helping anyone. They aren't just friends nor do I think they ever could be given their history, and I think deep down he's scared of the harsh consequences of their break up which is that eventually she'll need to move on and meet someone else. If she ends up dating someone else (or visa versa), he'll always be the other man that her current partner :does: have to worry about unless they cut ties because she's so emotionally invested in him and he won't actually commit to his own actions. That's not to say that I wouldn't like to hear that they got back together in the end, I just think it should happen sooner rather than later: either they get back together or he stops holding her back from her future. (Note: I do believe in mixed gender friendships, but I do think these two have been too deep in it and clearly still love eachother way too much in a totally not-platonic way that it's impossible in this particular circumstance)

Honestly op is not fault at all from start to finish, and in my honesty opinion this was going to happen regardless, even if op didn't marry ted, Especially since it was revealed he was doing the same thing to his niece's pictures, so he was going to do this even if op wasn't involved or not, And since mil was ok with enabling horrible behavior from her sons, so this terrible sht was gonna happen it's just unfortunately other people like op and the niece was caught in the cross fire, And it's scary to think if op and ted didn't find out the truth, and how far ash would escalate if gone undiscovered by anyone.
