Because when you grow up with toxic people, it's 1) normalized, 2) trauma bonding, 3) people who don't get unconditional love as kids, crave love and will try to feel loved. But since they have normalized very unhealthy relationship/connection patterns, they tend to unconsciously either seek out other abusers, or try to "fix" the relationship with the original abuser. They are driven by the thought " if I try just a bit more, they will finally see me and love me" 5) they don't necessarily recognize that they are being abused, because they grew up that way. And even after realizing that they are abused, it takes a huge amount of effort, guided by a professional, to heal from trauma. Trauma will literally change your brain structure. The brain has great neuroplasticity, an can be trained back into a healthy structure, but it's difficult and takes a while. And if you are getting traumatized during this phase, it will take much longer and become almost impossible

When I first read the title I was like, "What?!? That's crazy and disgusting!" Then I thought, "Oh! Mabye they're gay and OP means the SIL for some reason wants to carry OPs child not her brothers child. That's still crazy but makes more sense." But no. SIL is just a batsh!t-crazy creep. I seriously feel so bad for OP.

What in the Alabama trailer park is this? She wants her BROTHER'S baby in her. Even if it's OP's egg and it's done in vitro that still horrible and gross. OP, I AM proud of you for making the hard decision to think about the well-being. And hey, if you decide to be childfree there's nothing wrong with that too. SIL is absolutely nuts (and racist to boot)!

There are plenty of cases that involve a sister being a surrogate. The difference being that it was introduced by the couple. It was disgussed by all involved. It was agreed upon by all involved. This story is Nothing like those situations. This is SIL being dangerous and completely off her rocker. I will never understand how/why they thought it would be a good thing to let her back into their life.

I know of a story or two of a grandmother carrying her grandchild/den for he infertile daughter. She was young enough to do so because she was a teen mom (got pregnant at 16). There was even a Lifetime movie about one of the cases.

The husband of the addict, why not take the responsibility of making sure you don’t make another baby after the first experience?

I have eds as well. And I hold the same views on children and my bf understands so when we are ready for kids we'll adopt. I have hyper mobile eds so my joints pop in and out of place and it's a 50/50 chance the kid gets eds and since I was a small child (kindergarten) my ankles and hips pop out all the time. So i completely understand you're point but this sil is insane

@@RagingWoody74 I agree with that. Though I think the SIL may want to have some control on her brother’s fertility. I also infer that she may be regretting having kids herself or had a traumatic birth, seeing how she treats her sons. Thus she wants Op and brother to suffer from child rearing like her.

You have to leave her, divorce her and do what you can to get her family to drop her. She needs to be left to do or die, as long as addicts have support in any way they will abuse and manipulate their way through life. As far as the pregnancy get CPS and the courts involved, make it as hard on her as you can. She has to hit rock bottom with no one to use, no one to help but the professionals. These professionals need to step in with consequences to push her further, make her so miserable, put so many consequences on her that the only way out is to get clean. I had to be left to do or die and e everything got so hard, I had to make my choice when I almost died. Now I hated being an addict, I wanted to be clean so much. That's no so with a lot of them, especially ones in denial, you have to make her addiction so hard, so miserable that she hates it. All the while continuing to live your life and be happy so she can see the choice clearly. Its a hard path but she needs it, call in a search on the house, tell them you've seen drugs there, hopefully you've taken pictures, that you are afraid for your daugters life and can't go back. So many ways, get advice from a long term addict because they can help you more than anyonr else. They know how the mind works, how the disease kills and the possible treatment that will begin healing.
