My favorite scene is when he leaving the first town the sheriff tries not to believe but then he cant take the chance so he chases him down and gives him a letter one of those heart melting scenes.

I heard that being a postman is a lousy job because you tend to use the stairs if the elevators broke down and you tend to knock on the wrong door if the sender wrote the wrong address.

This and Waterworld aren't really bad movies at all. It beats many of today's movies by far. I could care less if it isn't true to a book. It was entertaining. I feel more could of been done with Waterworld to give it more storyline or backstory however to say these movies were terrible is ridiculous. I believe people had false ideas of what the movie should of turned out or should of been ahead of time. When it was a different style they turned on it, even if it was entertaining to watch.

You're right. In fact, they're not merely "not bad",...they're actually pretty good. Movies like these are why I've come to dismiss anything that (overly biased) "film critics" have to say. You've probably heard the saying: "Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, become critics". For awhile I started relying more on fan ratings, but I've even started to dismiss those too, since the ratings reflect only which particular fans/fan base, happen to be rating the movies. I've noticed that more often than not, anything with 80% or higher approval rating is usually good. But, movies with a low approval rating, (like The Postman's 9%) aren't necessarily bad. Anyway, I care only about box office receipts & even then,...only for 1 reason. If I like a particular movie, a good box office return = potential for a sequel.

Just look at what happened to "A Christmas Story" film. It wasn't as big with critics at first than became to the point where it is shown every year.

I'm six months late, but I agree whole heartedly. A lot of "terrible movies" are actually pretty good. The saying it "Those who can't teach". But that's not true. Those who can't, critique those who can.

Many people will likely miss the important message in this movie. Communication between the peoples of the world is vital to maintain freedom. Every Communist/socialist oppressive regime seeks to control the flow of information to keep people from organizing any kind of revolt. Communication is key to organization. What we have now in the US is the beginnings of the control of information. People, please stop believing every thing you read or hear on the news and use a readily available resource like the internet to research and consider different points of view before making your decisions. If I have learned anything in my 56 years on this earth that is if something sounds too good to be true then it most likely is. There are no easy paths to a successful happy life of freedom

Wayne, you’re 100% correct. I’m an author (10 books) and a ham radio operator (KR0SE), and the first step toward destroying the Republic is to break down channels of communication. Sadly, most Americans are marginally literate. How many have read the classics? How many understand history? How many have a rudimentary understanding of basic economic theory. It took 200+ years to destroy the Republic but here we are.

This really is a good movie, so why does it get such a bad rap? for one, critics and viewers that did not forgive Costner for Waterworld , second the puritans that hated the movie because its different than the book. and thirdly, foreigners that hate anything American with patriotic overtones. and finally, some viewers were expecting another Mad Max movie, and got something a lot deeper. just look at the negative comments below and you will see I am correct. If you watch this movie on its own, its a good story, basically, its a post apocalyptic world, where the first steps are being taken towards restoring civilization and freedom, and communication between separated pockets of survivors is part of that step.

I don't know you, but, I hear you. I was a Postman, here in Sydney, Australia. 1997-2007. I delivered mail to houses, mailboxes, as I rode my Honda CT110 cc red coloured Australia Post motor bike. I was SO PROUD to be a Postman, riding my bike, delivering mail, doing a service to everyone, doing GOOD STUFF!. Mums, Dads, Kids, all, would come up to me and talk, about every kinda stuff, cause, I was THEIR Postman, damn!, I have no words to tell or convey how Special I felt, their trust, their words, their stories, good God A'mighty, they talked to me, they TRUSTED ME, ....I was their Postman. Never, have I had a so unique, a so special, a so private, BOND, with someone not of my blood.' A very, very, cut in stone bond of word, a trust. For me, it was my word, my bond, their trust. Without fail.

I watched and enjoyed it... for the most part... but what killed it form me was Costner's character, he was interesting till he shaved his beard, then he lost his grit and started acting cocking, then melancholy... then the rest of the movie rallied around him trying to not be weighed down by his acting...
