I remember in school some girls from my class were grilling me to get the name of my crush, and they took turns verbally enunciating the name of every boy in class to see if I would react to one in particular. @@ekaterinakuznetsova Lol. I’m aroace, but when I was in high school, we didn’t really have that sort of information yet, and asexuality was still listed as a mental health disorder at the time and there was no information about being aromantic that I could find, so I was just super confused because _something should have been happening by now, right?!_ I still remember girls from my class trying to figure out who I liked and if I was a lesbian or not. They went through every boy in class, and then they’d grill me to see if I liked any celebrities that they considered to be attractive. I didn’t, and they were convinced that I was lying, but at the same time, they couldn’t make sense of the fact that, by my facial expression, I was seemingly genuinely uninterested in all of them, so they came to the conclusion that I was a master at not giving it away. Then, because I felt like something was wrong, I proceeded to look at my classmates, picked the most conventionally attractive one, and thought, “…Yeah, I’ll have a crush on that guy,” and then I proceeded to do nothing with that thought and told nobody and forgot about it in less than a week because it meant nothing to me. It was just like I was ticking off a box on my list of milestones so I felt less weird and left behind. Haha.

I had a crush on my best friend for like a year, ever since I first started talking to me. She was and still is my emotional support bestie. We used to flirt with each other, although I was probably the only one who hoped it wasn't platonic. So after that year of being hopelessly in love with her, she suddenly decided to tell me about this guy who had asked her out. They both shared feelings for each other. But she couldn't say yes, due to several reasons. Let me tell you, I bawled my eyes out. I felt numb and so depressed. But as her closest friend, she trusted me with it. I pretended like I was happy for her, and I supported her. Eventually she said yes to him, and they're such a cute couple rn. It took me a while to get over her, but after a month or so, this guy and I started talking. We both had crushes on each other, and he finally asked me out. I was pretty shocked, as I am an extremely insecure person. But now we've been dating for 2 months

When I was 13 I desperately needed to reassure myself that I'm a "normal" straight girl, so I picked a random boy in a camp. My friends made me confess whatever I felt (or didn't feel) for him. Long story short: it was HELLA awkward, he was HELLA shocked, I was HELLA gay and in the closet. We even held hands and I thought, "Oh wow, there it is, it's butterflies!'', but in reality I was really shy and nervous and the whole thing was quite a mess. I also didn't know that women could have crushes on each other, so whenever I spotted a beautiful lady I just STARED intensively and one day my mother caught me oggling on scantily clad lingerie models in a magazine so I made an 'amazing' excuse that I just appreciated how neat their underwear was😭

It feels like the alloromantic-aromantic spectrum is really hard to define, I don’t think I’ve had a crush after the age of 3, but I’m still kinda convinced I’m fully alloromantic. As much as I don’t want to develop a crush at any point in my life, I feel like it’s entirely possible, but the fact that I haven’t during almost all of my conscious years on the planet may be evidence for otherwise.
@Direblade11

@@teethcoat4274 See, that's what confuses me about using the labels, especially when young. My difference, I think, is that I was always highly sexual and attracted to female bodies, but it took me until I was 19 and had a chance meeting at a chance time of my life to properly fall hard for a girl. Before then I assumed I literally could not fall in love, based on experience. No judgement btw, just hoping my experience can help a smidge

I mean, i dont think you're meant to have a million crushes in your lifespan. 2 sounds...fine? If you're sure you're aro/ace that's fine, but basing it off the number of crushes is kinda ridiculous. Crushes come and go and for some its just never a thing. Doesnt necessarily mean you have to slap on a label onto yourself just yet. I say try to focus more on the concept of romantic relationships with someone as opposed to using crushes as a basis, that'll help way more on reaching a definitve answer.

I'm on the Aro-Ace spectrum. As in both spectrums at once. I've never had any true crushes. I have however, started feeling romantic feelings for one partner after I started dating her. That is my current girlfriend, and we're happy. But also I have this thing that comes with my aro-ness where when I'm not around her, my feelings kinda fade and I feel insecure in romance, but then I see her again and I'm like, "Awooga, gawd dayum! 😫" then the cycle repeats. But that's how all of my relationships are and how they always have been (with non-men anyways).

This was so funny to watch. As someone that's 18 and only had a SINGLE crush(still crushing), this is pretty relatable LOL
Kay these are my tips : If when speaking to the person in question romantically (what I mean by this is them asking about your love life, or flirting with you) you get butterflies this is a sign! If you do you probably just feel very strongly about that person and respect them. I found out I liked girls when i started getting nervous when speaking to girls who I knew were gay. Just because I wanted to be with them. I hope this helped lol 😰
Oh God I remember getting asked the whole "Who's your crush?" Question a lot and it never failed to stress me out, especially as someone on the ace spectrum who hadn't experienced attraction the same way my peers had. And after my discovery of me being a fruitcake, it just got WORSE cuz I just started getting turned off by all the hetero bullshiet I was asked. If it helps, Fal, I'm also 18 and I've never held hands with someone romantically. And I'm also hella confused between platonic and romantic attraction, srsly someone help a sis out here-

Lord I felt this. I've never had a crush either and always had to give some random boys name to be a part of the friend group. Soon I realized I was into girls and not guys because I can't see myself in a relationship with a guy but THEN I realized after getting a girlfriend that I only had a sexual attraction to girls but not wanting to get into a relationship with girls or anyone. Yet I still hope that one day I will want to hold someone's hand romantically and have a relationship even though I'm terrified because I have no idea what it means to see some romantically or platonically. Plz save my confused ass

(Im so sorry this is so long 😭) Hello! So I absolutely can't guarantee that I can explain this in a way that can be understood, but I hope my experience w/ crushes of both guys and girls can offer some insight or a form of clarity!💛 So in my personal experience, I would describe a crush in general as a fluttering, nervousness and adoration when I think of the person's qualities, such as their appearance (their kind smile, their expressions, style, overall energy, etc.) and their personhood (such as talents, capabilities, aspirations, empathy, sociability, etc.) As I got to know them more, these qualities would heighten one another and influence e/o - for ex., if I liked someone's ability to bring positivity to their peers, I would associate that attribute with their smile and like that physical characteristic even more. This would make me wish I could be around them more often, share fond memories together, be allowed in their personal world and space (holding hands, leaning on e/o, hugging, etc.) and being someone who held a unique and special place in their lives that was different from that of a friend, best friend, or family friends. The crush can vary based off of which side of the attraction spectrum you lean towards, whether you mostly only have visual information about the person you have a crush on, or whether internal qualities are the main thing you find in your crush. You can take this a step further - I recently experienced my first love, and the reason why I wanted her to be in my life forever was because she simultaneously gave me a sense of security and healthy challenge in my personhood, she uplifted me and we tried to influence positive development in e/o, we made future plans far out into our adulthood as a couple and being integrated as partners, and (I felt at least) we brought out the best in e/o. This can also be mirrored platonically, but I think the major difference is that you land in the middle of the attraction spectrum mentioned earlier, and you more importantly want to hold the special place of life partner in their world, not limited to friends (you'll feel limited with the title of "friendship" alone, and you'll feel the desire to be considered something more). I hope this helps on some level, and it's okay if your journey to finding yourself continues on, there's no rush to self recognition! ^-^
The "Sophia" thing was so relatable. I had a major crush on this girl with the same name as me, and I adored her and everything she did. She was beautiful, she was funny, she was the quite kid, and she liked me as well ( but only as a friend, I think) And I don't even have the " I didn't know what gay was" excuse because I was talking to my mom about her, and literally said " But I'm not gay mom" ( I was a dumb 8 year old). I wrote a Valentine's letter to her. And here comes the funny part: I wrote this passionate love letter saying how I only went to school to see her, and wanted to play only with her at recess, and missed her every time we weren't together ( don't imagine it as sappho level poetry, I was a kid so I didn't really know how to properly express what I felt, but that's s resume of what I felt) AND HERE COMES THE FUNNY BECAUSE AT THE END OF THE LETTER I WROTE SMALL, IN PARENTESIS, AFTER THE " yours, [deadname]" and after literally writing in caps "I LOVE YOU", I added ( But only as a friend

As a pansexual female, I absolutely get this. I always had female crushes but I couldn't even get myself to go and ask them out; probably because I am in Asia and everybody doesn't like the idea of THE GAYS. Until now I still have this problem approaching females that I get to like. I think it's terrifying and I don't think I'll ever be the one to say to a girl that I like her 😭

The Only way out of this is to raise awareness in some way, so there's communication between the LGBT and "normal" people. How will you go out with someone or even have friends that respect you for who you are if you can't talk abt who you are? They usually have some kind of political group in those homophobic countries. Maybe theres some little things that you can do to help?

My bi awakening hapened when I was 10- ah yes, elemetary school love..- It was summer and me and my bestfriend went to a 1 week camp together that was very epic, very epic indeed. So it was the day we were leaving the camp and our parents were to come pick us up. The camp was about an hour and 30 minutes away from where the both of us lived. (Keep in mind that I knew her for 4 years, since first grade. ) So every kid, boy or girl, was in this cabin that was only open space that had log benches everywhere in rows. We were watching a movie on one of the benches and suddenly I look over and saw she was trying to find something to rest her head on. She was twisting and turning since there wasn't really anything she could put her head on. I just looked at her and said quitely, "You can rest your head on my shoulder if that is more comfortable." She just gave me a soft smile, rested her head on my shoulder and said, "Thanks." She had her head rested on my shoulder the rest of the time until her mom arrived. I openly came out to her, telling her I liked her this year. Yeah--.. I was rejected. :,) Though she gave me the nicest paragraph of how she felt really bad and still wanted to be bestfriends. She said that if her family wasn't homophobic and she wasn't straight, if there were any girl she would date, it woulbe be me. Honestly that made me happy enough and we forgot completely about this moment and are the best bestfriends we could be. SORRY TO MAKE YOU READ A PARAGRAPH-

I am a straight dude who struggles to get crushes as well, though not when I was younger. Basically, I felt lust, so I'd just date a girl and be romantic for her, then get my sex out of it. There was one time I did end up falling in love, hard. I spoke with a cute coworker I specifically did not want to try to date, but in our first meeting she just seemed to really agree with views I hadn't even realized I had, and had similar interests. Without even trying to be smooth, I told her, "I really have to go, but I would keep talking to you if I could. Can I have your number?" Now that that's over, I don't know if I'll ever fall in love or get a proper crush again. Being honest about who I am while maintaining the actions of a good person is effective enough to get me a girlfriend with mutual trust, though.

@@poisonivory6017 he just mentioned he's straight lmao. Also u can be perfectly off the spectrum and still struggle with maintaining crushes. I havent had a crush in years, that doesnt make me aromantic because i know I'm not. Crushes are crushes for a reason, they are _meant_ to go away. Its only when crushes develop into smth more than a crush that you actively want more with that person. Otherwise its perfectly normal to lose interest in a crush. Media and kids play it out like crushes are the holy grail and be all end all of things when its just a silly concept of temporary attraction.

@@mcbedo6568 I was making a suggestion based off of my own experience. It's completely fine if you yourself don't feel that way, I really don't care. And from what I have seen at my high school, people tend to get a crush and want to be with the person even without it developing into 'something else' whatever that something else is. Other than that I can't say much else because I haven't experienced romantic attraction to anyone. I don't believe that crushes are the be all and end all as an Aromantic Asexual person, it is quite the opposite.
You might be on the aromantic spectrum!! I’ve had a lot of similar experiences to you, not being able to differentiate platonic and romantic feelings, being in love with the idea of love, getting over “crushes” quickly and not even having many crushes at all. That sounds like something a spec- I’m aro ace so idk about feeling crushes at all but while discovering myself I came across other aro and ace labels and micro labels and what your feeling sounds very similar! This is super late and like this vid was released months ago (also more people might have mentioned this) but I suggest looking into it if your still not sure ^^
I get you bro, as an 18yo who never dated and barely ever liked anyone but those who I liked went wrong hurt a lot I say we should just burn the world and watch it fade already 😔✊
Finally, I've found someone I can totally relate to😭 I can never differentiate between platonic or romantic love, and my crushes lasted for a week, at most, before ultimately finding out that they were, unfortinately, already in a relationship. This happened three times too
13:25 the "okay" -
I have personally never had a crush (yet) but not for lack of trying. I relate to most of what you said. Like the "being wired different". I get that on a real level.
I remember when I was 6 I had a crush on my best friend and the same thing happened (4:40). I remember we would always talk about how we aren't gonna get married and that we would just live in the same house together. I wasn't until 4 years later that I found out I liked her
0:58 exact same experience here. These kids were actually so manipulative.
