The Godmother Of Drumming Plays “Down With The Sickness”

Have you ever found yourself making assumptions about someone before you’ve met them? What about before seeing them play drums? From assuming she plays ‘quieter’ instruments to not being taken seriously before an audition, Dorothea Taylor has heard it all when it comes to judging a book by its cover. She’s here to prove that you can’t always accurately assess a drummer - or anybody - by how they look. Check out Dorothea’s cover of “Down With The Sickness” by Disturbed!
Drummers come in all shapes, sizes, ages, and ethnicities. “No matter how good you are, how old you are, we’re all still part of a drumming family.” - Dorothea Taylor

my grandad who passed 5 years ago was also a drummer, ofc male drummer etc pretty normal but he was 80 listening to disturbed, bush, tool, and others which is just strange considering his age haha but he always told me that he didnt care for the lyrics the song etc he cared the drums, because according to him in the modern age drums didnt matter anymore nothing special is being produced. so he only listened to real drummers no matter what genre. Also he introduced me into drumming when i was 8 and im still doing it. Amazing mentor.

Dorothea's message has changed her attitude and given her so much confidence. Thank you so much. Grateful Nan.

@Bob Salazar I humbly submit that technological innovation has more to do with it than the drummer in this video. People have more choices nowadays, both musicians and fans, and that's a good thing. I'm sure there will always be talented musicians making rock music in our lifetimes. And why is it that an old woman evokes a stronger negative reaction in you than an old man? Isn't dispelling preconceived notions of people based on their appearance the whole point of this video?

I find it easier to see it as aging simply being gaining experience. A lot of people seem to assume that a lot of things are the perogative of "young" people. Age has nothing to do with most things other than literally how long people have been on this earth. Thinking anything else really is just a mild form of ageism.

If I remember seeing something about her... She started out with some kind of jazz band, then pop or surf rock (think of the style of Beatles and Beach Boys when they were "the thing"), but it's the technicality of the playing that got her into the harder styles of rock later on. My understanding is she has a reputation of coaching/teaching to improve the technique of other drummers out there. She's out there to school in more than one way.
