I mean, she had to do more than one take, whereas every other drummer on here has absolutely killed it the first time through on songs that are way harder. I get that we wanna be supportive, but she knows she didnt do as well as the other drummers.

For only 2 takes I think she did an outstanding job! Of course listening to Joey kill it afterwards is going to make you feel like you didn't do as good as you could have. He left some pretty big shoes to fill!

@@Immigrantlovesamerica Where exactly is Mr Brightside or Schism harder lol? In this video, she even got it close to the original, which is even more impressive in terms of accents and so forth. Also going from Pop to Metal is something else rather than going from Rock to Metal or Metal to Rock. Most of others also took notes. She did not.

I really enjoyed this performance. You drum with a cool rock style in this. I liked hearing that in this particular song. I liked that you did improvise because you changed things up where even excellent drummers do not; so it made for some pleasant surprises, like that classic rock descending tom-fill - that sounded really good in the song, as did the jungle tom interludes. It was fascinating how many of the crash parts were very similar (at the same exact points). This is a great idea and a way cool experiment. More vids like this and more vids of her, please.

Unbelievable. Her second playthrough, never having heard the full song, absolutely crushes it. Hits all the major fills, tracks all the time changes, even the half time at the bridge, and adds in some honestly incredible spice herself. Wild. Truly humbling.

Yeah she did not need to be so hard on herself but it shows how humble she is. I mean they threw her in the deep end here by asking her to play Joey Jordison with a small drum kit! She did fantastic. Some of her fills especially with the toms were tight

If you being tough on yourself prevents you from just grooving and inhibits progress out of fear of judgement, then you're going to find yourself not only having slow progression, but the progression itself will be stressful and completely unfun. Being too tough on yourself leads to insecurity, insecurity to complacency, complacency is stagnation. Your comment sucks. She absolutely killed it, and from the comments I see here, a lot of people agree. Can't speak for her, but it can be hard to be confident in spaces where you're not getting a lot of feedback, or a space that's male dominated. If anything, I hope this shows people that there are badass women in music out there.

@@neuritisband Although yes, she is insanely good, there is no reason to sugar coat it. This was far from the original, she doesn't have half the drums needed and that's not her fault but doesn't mean it is closer to the original. This was very different than the normal drum part, she was off beat on multiple occasions.

Yeah, I literally only had two places where I went "Not quite my tempo", once during the bridge and once during the outro (I think). The bridge is just hard to improv and she staggered a TINY bit later on, but she was amazing. Going from pop to Slipknot is a tough challenge.

Yep, her drum kit is structured under simpler approach, but nevertheless she managed to do a lot with it. Massive drum kits are amazing but without a good drummer nothig extraordinary happens. on the contrary, a good drummer does not deppend on the drum kit to deliver a good performance.

I think my favorite part of this was her switching from a very very tight and straight play style you'd find in more pop, to a full arms loose heavy hitting groovy play style to fit better. She felt the emotion the song was supposed to provide and changed her playing based off it. Crushed it!

The final take is great. I like how her kit is pretty restrained- one rack tom, one bass drum. I think the original is recorded on a 10-piece kit? She squeeze so much out of the roll at 7:50 , just by using accents and ghosts.

I perso find it more interesting and fun to have the "drumless" experience first and go through the discovery with the invited drummer, rather than have the original. And then be re-discovering the original, it's more fun I find

Also going from Pop to Metal is something else rather than going from Rock to Metal or Metal to Rock. Most of others also took notes. She did not.

I really enjoyed this performance. You drum with a cool rock style in this. I liked hearing that in this particular song. I liked that you did improvise because you changed things up where even excellent drummers do not; so it made for some pleasant surprises, like that classic rock descending tom-fill - that sounded really good in the song, as did the jungle tom interludes. It was fascinating how many of the crash parts were very similar (at the same exact points). This is a great idea and a way cool experiment. More vids like this and more vids of her, please.

She absolutely killed it, and from the comments I see here, a lot of people agree. Can't speak for her, but it can be hard to be confident in spaces where you're not getting a lot of feedback, or a space that's male dominated. If anything, I hope this shows people that there are badass women in music out there.
As a metal drummer, if you give me a pop song I'm just going to put metal drums over it. She put down some serious metal grooves which is even more impressive now that I've listened to her normal stuff.

This was far from the original, she doesn't have half the drums needed and that's not her fault but doesn't mean it is closer to the original. This was very different than the normal drum part, she was off beat on multiple occasions.

Yeah, I literally only had two places where I went "Not quite my tempo", once during the bridge and once during the outro (I think). The bridge is just hard to improv and she staggered a TINY bit later on, but she was amazing. Going from pop to Slipknot is a tough challenge.

The fact that she perfectly understood the accents of the original song without listening to them is a testament both of the very catchy and poppy construction of the original song (which is also to be praised on Slipknot side) AND this nice lady's drumming skills. Great job, Domino!

Yep, her drum kit is structured under simpler approach, but nevertheless she managed to do a lot with it. Massive drum kits are amazing but without a good drummer nothig extraordinary happens. on the contrary, a good drummer does not deppend on the drum kit to deliver a good performance.

At the very beginning, like as soon as she first hears the song, she did say "you're gonna need to install double right?" So she pretty much knew right away.
Holy crap, even on her first pass, once she finds her groove she gets pretty damn close to the actual part!
Brilliant work - and she was all smiles the whole time she was playing it! Fantastic job!
I am sure Joey Jordison is looking down from metal heaven and smiling with aprooval. Getting this close to the original track with just her intuition and a very basic kit is simply breathtaking.

I think my favorite part of this was her switching from a very very tight and straight play style you'd find in more pop, to a full arms loose heavy hitting groovy play style to fit better. She felt the emotion the song was supposed to provide and changed her playing based off it. Crushed it!

The final take is great. I like how her kit is pretty restrained- one rack tom, one bass drum. I think the original is recorded on a 10-piece kit? She squeeze so much out of the roll at 7:50 , just by using accents and ghosts.

The drummers are the glue in the band. This series gave me more incite on how skilled the drummers have to be to meld all the instruments together
I perso find it more interesting and fun to have the "drumless" experience first and go through the discovery with the invited drummer, rather than have the original. And then be re-discovering the original, it's more fun I find
The amount of fun she's having makes me smile ear to ear. What a contagious personality. Serious skill from a girl not taking herself too seriously.

Joey was a world class, amazing drummer. She's sitting there with pretty much a basic kit and managed to do a fantastic job. You could tell she could really feel it, even if her spin on it was different. This was awesome.

I've watched a bunch of these videos and she gets closer than anyone I've seen. She has a very natural sense for rhythm and song composition that's amazing.
She really ate that. It's so impressive how she added little fills that made sense if you've never heard it before. This is probably my favorite Drumeo video so far

What an attaching, adorable human being. And a great drummer, wow! Her part was absolutely excellent, completely convincing. What a cool girl!
Joey is not an easy drummer to imitate. The assignment was almost unfairly difficult, but she kinda killed it.

That's the whole point of the series - to give drummers stuff they are not familiar with and give their own take on the songs, not to imitate the drum parts 1:1. I wish Joey was alive and hear this

She wasn't imitating because she didn't hear the drum track (It's not exactly clear in this video compared to newer ones) But at the end she hears it with drums at the end.

As soon as I saw the title, I was like, "That's a really hard song to drum, PERIOD." So, yeah, they set her up to fail, but she killed it

The fact that she got those lone kicks right during the chorus is a huge testament to both her ability and the overall quality of the song. It just DEMANDS those kicks and she gave them

Those kicks make the chorus, it’s that rare true harmony between drums and the rest of the band. Joey really nailed it on this whole song to be honest lol she did a great cover too!
