I absolutely LOVE my Blackbird! I was graduating high school in '96 and it was my dream bike. Wasn't able to get one until many, many years later because not only were they way out of my price range but the insurance was also insane until I got old enough. Now I've got my Blackbird and a GL1800 in the garage and all of my motorcycling dreams have come true.

You know a Honda Africa twin is quicker off the line and more comfortable right? Even if you're bold, you're probably not going over 120 on a public road unless you're a kid with no brains. The AT might top out around 150 but it doesn't matter IRL. Up to 120, it has better acceleration than this bike and that's all that matters unless you are on a racetrack. Blueprinted and tuned a Honda 750cc V4 from a decade earlier will eat a Blackbird for lunch. Just mop the floor with it in every metric. The brand new superbike in the showroom uses 20 year old racing tech. The Blackbird has its roots in the '70s just like the V4 only the Blackbird has zero racing pedigree.

Sean, New subscriber. My son bought a Blackbird in 1998. He let me ride it and he was on a CBR 929 and did a brief blow by. I dropped to third, laid on the tank and cranked it I looked at the my speed as I flew passed him at 130 and let off at 178 . When I pulled over my hands were shaking from adrenaline. Once in a lifetime experience on a cool Saturday morning in PA.

HAHAHAHAHAHA smoothest running engine huh? Can you balance a quarter on the block and have it NEVER fall off because it's so smooth? Didn't think so either. That title belongs to the "other" Honda that they couldn't even sell and gave em away to trade schools...............Remember THAT ONE? It's the Honda CBX, the most refined engine in the world and you can start it with the quarter on the block on edge and it will NOT move due to vibrations. And honestly folks that crown was taken back by the ZX14 wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back in 06. The Blackbird barely exceeded the ZX11 by 4 mph to take the title. The ZX11 reigned supreme for nearly 8 years from 1990 to 1997 when the Blackbird debuted. But it is a very finely refined bike of its own merits, just wanted to state some FACTS here. And keep the record Straight. Now the title still belongs to Kawasaki with the H2 and the track with the H2R for the record.

@paultalbot3652 I suppose it depends on what you are looking for in a bike, comfort wise, it would probably win. However, one of the biggest considerations someone would look at these styles of bikes is speed, which the bike would fail on(in regards to top speed). Now, this is just my personal choice . It is also the look factor, and I'm not a fan of shaft drive or BMW usually. (BMW sport exception) 3rd generation Busa and zzr1400 are gorgeous looking bikes. However, if it was based on regular miles munching only, which I don't do, then comfort would be the no.1 factor, and that's where the BMW would probably win. If that was my main overall concern , I would probably buy a full on tourer.

Hey Sean . I live in Australia and still own and ride my first road bike , a 2001 Honda CBR1100XX BLACKBIRD , ALL black . Not sure what current laws state , but I feel blessed . Got my rider's licence after I turned 30 . Did a couple of "training courses" within a fortnight (booked out) , and was able to buy and ride anything legally , with one stipulation : No Pillion for 12 months ... She's a good one , and I still love her . Look a bit more into the history of the model . First couple of years had carbs , then they're fuel injected . Not sure about Kawasaki , but I have reason to believe that Suzuki developed the GSXR1300 , competing with Honda , to be the first production motorcycle to exceed 300km/hr . They got it , with 1340cc ,versus Honda's 1137cc . One last note : Head honcho's in the Japanese plants obviously had a healthy sense of competition , with a bit of humour . In Japan , there is a bird of prey called the Hayabusa . Some would say part of their diet consists of Blackbirds ...

Lovely trip down memory lane! I bought my XX new in 2001 and it served me very well, as a daily commute here in Sydney, a 2-up grand tourer and for weekend scraps with my buddies. The roll-on power and torque of the bike was exceptional, even with both of us, panniers, top box and double tank bags (to hide the speedo from the missus!). Sold it in 2007 as I was working overseas a lot and not riding it, and can still see my baby leaving me. Sold my 964 that year too. Two big regrets in my life. I'm 5'11" and my only gripe was that occasionally I would get a crook neck from being a little forward. Now on a '15 Ninja 1000, no such issue. However, the Blackbird will reman special in my memory. I owned them both at the same time from new; a 1999 tri-tone copper Hayabusa and an early production 2000 ZX-12R in green/purple. Both with simple mods, full exhausts and Power Commanders. The ZX-12R was a more capable bike despite what the magazines of the day printed. It pulled harder up top and had superior handling when compared to the Suzuki albeit the Hayabusa made more power down low. Both machines had astounding capabilities, even for today. Had they modern traction and wheelie control, the numbers they laid down would've been utterly insane.

I had one of the original ones in the UK, (CBR 1100 xxw)it was called the super blackbird over here, they originally had 4 carburettors, no injection and were faster in my opinion, no low speed judder in heavy traffic, it was stripped and the engine was rebuilt by hand by an engineer which increased the BHP, awesome machine.

Mine juddered terribly when filtering for example. I fitted a lambda sensor delete (just a resistor) and it transformed the bikes low speed running. Literally night and day different. I think the bike was always hunting for the best fuel ratio, but I guess the resistor set it to a constant fuel ratio.

I own a zx 14 2006 and a cbr1100xx 2003 fuel injected. Those bike are really made for crossing big miles at high speed pace Autobhan road style. Its just adictive, you stay aroud +- 5000 rpm on the tall 6th gear and you twist till you hit the red line on straight long stretch. You drive in a confortable package, good covering from the front fearing, really love those bikes. When you know well the bike you can push really hard the bike and it will keep the pace ( in the steet).

I traded in a 2005 ZX-10 for an '08 ZX-14, and actually faulted the bike for being perfect. The 14 did absolutely everything well and effortlessly. The ZX-10 by comparison (not that the two should be compared) was hillariously vulger and uncivilized. If I had to choose to have one back, I would take the 10 hands down...and likely secretly wish for 14.

Hey sean ive been watching your channel for about a year now, first i love the scriptures you through in each vid and the saying "not about what you ride but where your going"ive been slowly getting into Motorcycles just by watching your videos ive never driven a motorcycle and havent been on one since i was a kid, my dad would let me ride on the back around the town, he had a victory... something, i cant remember what but he left us when i got into my teens 😂 but that's besides the point, what im trying to say is you boosted my motivation to get into bikes and i am thinking i want to get an indian socut bobber mainly just cause of the looks cause idk how they ride but i talked to locals about the bike and of course it might be biased cause they own it but they say they ride very nice. The bike is a little pricey for me but i was wondering if you knew of something similar/cheaper but still comfortable and fun to ride i dont need crazy fast or flashy i just want to ride and enjoy the ride to drive around town, i also need my motor cycle license, but to tell you a little about me i am a truck driver down here based out of Oklahoma and we have lots of rural roads around were i live. I enjoy the content keep posting, god bless you

@@lifted_above the biggest downfall with most Honda motorcycles is the price. I mean look at the new Honda fire blade RRR. An absolutely amazing motorcycle but for $30,000. They just priced themselves out of the market. Keep in mind the reason the VFR1200F was so expensive had to do with the development of the first ever DCT in any motorcycle. Unfortunately, they split the cost between the DCT model. This made both motorcycles very expensive. Also, the development of the new engine and an entirely new motorcycle drove the cost up. Buying these bikes now at the massive discount is a great proposition for anyone.

I had a 5th Gen VFR800 Sean. It had linked brakes too. Quite a few people de-linked them. Some of those did it simply because others did without really understanding why. I quite liked the system and never considered it too intrusive. At slow speeds in traffic, squeezing the front brake brought a little rear in too which really helped slow speed stability for me especially with a pillion aboard. At higher speeds I liked the way that squeezing a big handful of front brake made the bike squat rather than diving.

Both bikes were tuned with exhaust systems. The Kawi was carbureted. I'm not sure which one was faster, but they both were a lot of fun. The CBR was the smoothest and lightest steering bike I ever owned. I remember the metallic red one had the first digital dash as well. Wonderful bike. I later sold it for an FJR, and then a Super Tenere'. The S10 was the most comfortable. The ZX 14 Kawi, was the most powerful of all street bikes, if I remember correctly. The CBR-XX was an icon though. These new bikes have something like 230 HP! Amazing power. I've never ridden one of these new ones.....😁

It was a great system, especially in the wet or in bad traction road surfaces. You could concentrate on riding just using the foot brake, and everything was super stable. It was way easy to let a couple gears get away from you and before you know it. You running 135mph plus.
